DO BETTER is a spectacularly important, soul-shaking read that should be top-of-the-list for women and women-plus of all races, but particularly white and white-passing women and women-plus who want to understand antiracism, ally with antiracists, and eliminate the white supremacy pervasive to cultures worldwide.

Ricketts compels us to begin any antiracist efforts with a basic acknowledgement that we are, to a one, upholders of white supremacist ideology. There is no hiding here, no excuses. In order to make any progress as allies and antiracists, we have to start with ourselves. Ricketts takes equal turns as historian, educator, spiritual advisor, and passionate storyteller in these pages, always leading with compassion and raw honesty. To quote even the most basic wisdom she shares in DO BETTER would require a book-length review--but suffice it to say, not a minute passed in this audio when I wasn't dropping a bookmark, rewinding to listen again, pausing to reflect on what I'd just heard. Rachel Ricketts is an incredible narrator, not only because the material is her own, but because her melodic voice and timbre are rich with nuance and inflection. Even when her words were difficult to hear, listening was a joy.

In the simplest possible summation: DO BETTER is essential reading (and re-reading) for all people who wish to see the end of white supremacy.
