Over 200 recipes are divided into traditional categories from main dishes and sides to desserts and snacks with labels for gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, etc. Also included are health tips and remedies. Encased in a lay-flat binding and presented in full color, home cooks of all ages will be eager to add this cookbook to their collections.

Pros:

- The photography is done very well.
- Has tags signaling which recipes are gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free, etc.
- Directions are easy to follow.

Cons:

- I find myself wishing there were more pictures.
- Has a lot of religious mentions which makes sense given that it's an Amish Cookbook but may not be for everyone.
- There isn't a huge selection of recipes. Usually about 4-5 per category.

Would I recommend it?

I'm on the fence about this one. The recipes do look yummy but there aren't that many of them and there aren't a lot of recipes that I don't already know how to make. If I was looking for a cookbook to buy in-store, this wouldn't be the one I would go for.

If you enjoy Amish fiction, chances are you are pretty familiar with Wanda E. Brunstetter. Her fictional Amish tales are absolutely fantastic. You may also be aware that in addition to her fictional books, she also has several Amish cookbooks available as well. And let me just say, they are every bit as fantastic as well. There is just something about Amish cooking that brings to mind family and comfort. What it may not typically bring to mind is health food. But who says it can't?

In this newest cookbook, that is just what we get. Whether you are gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, etc it can limit your choices no matter what style of cooking you are interested in. This fun cookbook offers a variety of Amish that fit into these categories and more. While I only received a small sample of the 200 included recipes, I am absolutely loving what I am seeing so far--- everything from delicious breakfasts and breads, entrees and desserts too! I cannot wait to see the rest of them.

In addition to the recipes, I enjoyed the health information about various foods that were included. There were also scriptures throughout that really helped to set it apart. If you love Amish cooking but want to or need to eat healthier, this is one cookbook you'll want to add to your collection.

This is not your usual Amish fare! These recipes are labeled gluten free, sugar free, dairy free, low carb, etc.
You will be surprised and delighted to read about the Superfoods that are so good for you and your health - such as avocados, beans, oranges, cassava root, and pineapple, to name a few!
You will be introduced to unusual drinks that have many health benefits, such as beet kvass and lacto-fermented ginger ale.
You will also find whole spelt bread recipes, brown bread, and many cereal and egg based recipes. There are recipes for cabbage rolls, meatless meatloaf, fried corn mush and even sausage and cheese bites!
There are even desserts such as apple crisp, classic chocolate pudding and baked apples!

This was a good preview! I like to see traditional recipes with a healthier twist. I'll be keeping my eyes out for the full book when it comes out!

I received a sample of this cookbook from netgalley and look forward to reading the complete cookbook in the future!

I love that more of these recipes use less of the processed ingredients. I also really enjoyed the Scripture references that are included. In just the small sample of recipes, there were many that I was interested in trying.

I have Wanda E. Brunstetter other books and I absolutely love them. I got a sample of this new "healthy options cookbook" and I'm very excited to read the completed one. The recipes available in the sample look so good, well organized, easy to follow, and the photos look great! The recipes use alternative ingredients, like almond milk, coconut sugar, whole wheat flour and others. Looking forward to the finished book.
