The sneak peak was so good! So far the characters each feel like their own and I’m very intrigued to see what’s going to happen next!

I loved the sneak peek! I cannot provide a full review of this novel, just because the sneak peek was only a few chapters long. But it sucked me in and I cannot wait to read the rest of this story!

I'm not sure if I had a corrupted file or not, but I couldn't read most of the sample as all the words were jumbled together. :/ I was also denied a full arc so I'll be waiting for the official release to check out Ace of Spades.

This sample was way too short! I know it’s going to be a good book since I was only given two chapters but was already sucked into the action and left wanting more! I have only read one other book that was written in first person with alternating viewpoints and I really enjoyed it so I think it’s really cool that this book did the same. Cant wait to hopefully read the full book soon!

New school year, new headmaster, a mysterious symbol appearing during the annual “welcome back” school assembly... what awaits our protagonists on their senior year at Niveus Academy?
This sneak peak has made me even more excited for the coming out of this book! I’m really looking forward to know more about these characters, and see where the story takes us.

Review of Ace of Spades by Faridah Abiké – Iyimidé By Georgia Hardiman

If you thought Dan Brown was a page turner, think again. This thrilling debut novel had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing right to the last page.
Two students are targeted by an anonymous hater at the prestigious private school, Niveus. Chiamaka is at the peak of her school career, in her last term she is determined to be crowned Queen at the annual snowflake ball. Devon is from the wrong side of town, on a scholarship and only interested in getting into the top music academy of his choice. The only thing they have in common is the colour of their skin.
These teens struggle with hot topics like sexuality, drugs and bullying and are thrown together, forced to fight together or stand alone. They make an unlikely team, and yet they are determined to find out who is hell bent on ruining their lives and why.
What they uncover is shocking and scary, and will make you question everything you ever thought you knew about institutionalised racism.
Heads up for the bad language and adult themes. This book is suitable for 14s and upwards with parental guidance.
Suitable for CEFR B2/C1
I give it five stars for the face-paced action, totally believable characters and red hot topical themes which are dealt with unapologetically and forcefully.

Loved the sneak peek and can't wait to get my hands on this book!!! I usually take forever to get into a book but I am hooked on this one.

I do not know what I was expecting when I opened the file. Definitely not what I have read so far. As it is a “sneak peek” there is not much that I can say, especially about the two main characters, Devon and Chiamaka.
He is not popular, loves music and find himself in a position that doesn’t belong to him.
She is the “queen bee” of her school and is envied by her schoolmates. Everyone wants to be in her position.

My first reaction as I finished those few chapters has been: OMG, and then? What happens?
The only thing that I can do now is waiting for the book to be published, because I need to know everything about it.

Thanks to NetGalley, Feiwel & Friends/MacMillan Children's Publishing Group for letting me read and review this chapter sample of Ace of Spades. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

In the brief sample here, it starts a bit slow and then gets really interesting right when the sample ends. I can't wait until the full book comes out because it sounds very intriguing. This starts and goes into the story very much following and fitting the description of the book. It's a lot like what it says, Gossip Girl meets Get Out with these two students who are chosen to be Senior Prefect and Head Prefect with one of them, Chiamaka being the rich one who worked hard to get there and Devon is there on scholarship and then secrets start coming out.

Looking forward to being able to read and know more about what happens when the full book comes out.

I really loved the sample of this book, it seemed like so much is going to happen next and I can't wait for the full book to come out! This was really interesting to read bout, and gripped me from the start, and when it ended I was like "noooo" because I really wanted to continue on and find out everything that happens in the book. The writing is so wonderful and really fits the story, the setting is also amazing since I love books written in a school setting, I only got a glimpse of the characters but they were really fun to read about and hopefully I can learn more about them when I read the full book. I am so invested in this book right now, and can't wait to see what transpires throughout the whole setting. This seems like an amazing mystery/thriller book and I don't read much of those, but for this one I am willing to get sucked into the drama and horrors in Niveus Private Academy!

3/1 Review for Sneak Preview Chapters (Thank you Netgalley and Feiwel and Friends for the preview!)

Wow, this is going to be amazing! I'm already so intrigued by the main characters. I'm finding I'm REALLY into the private school/boarding school mysteries. They always get so twisty and fun! In three fairly short chapters, we've already gotten so much information about who the characters are as people, what they believe, what their goals are, how they think and behave, their background, etc. If the rest of the book is this good, June better hurry up!

This preview of the book sounds interesting so far! Would love to continue reading!

Taking place at a prestigious high school, the story is told from the perspectives of two students: Devon and Chiamaka. Devon is a quiet person who doesn't like to stand out or receive attention. Unlike the other students who come from upper-class families, Devon is at the school on a scholarship and often feels out of place with all the rich kids. Chiamaka is the most popular girl in school and has done everything in her power to obtain her position. She seems intelligent and maybe a little cut-throat. Devon is chosen as a Senior Prefect and Chiamaka as Head Prefect for their final year at their school Niveus.

They both are looking forward to a good final year but when some of their secrets are exposed, their final high school year becomes a lot more eventful than they had imagined.

I'm not usually a fan of high school drama books but this one proves to be pretty promising as it also sheds light on race and wealth inequities. I'm also curious to see how these two characters develop throughout the novel are they both begin with certain flaws. Are they going to end up working together as the only two dark-skinned "popular" students in their school? What is going to bring them together?

This is super intriguing, and I really want more! I think the blurb is really accurate, and that it fills a hole in the boarding school/mystery/dark academia genre. Definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the full book.

This was an excellent sneak peak of this book and had me interested move forward with reading the full story. The alternating perspectives had me eagerly looking forward to the moment when their lives would collide. I also appreciated the black and queer representation.

- review written based on the Sneak Peek -

- very accessible and live language, the text flows effortlessly
- both voices of the first-person narration seem authentic and are distinct enough from each other
- there is no long exposition at the beginning, the narration sucks the reader right into the middle of things

Devon attends the expensive Niveus Academy and feels out of place among the rich students, he himself comes from poorer means and does not have many friends at school. Chiamaka is the most popular girl at the school, appears reasonably ruthless, pragmatic, and ambitious.

Based on the sneak peek, I would like to read more of the book, it drew me in and I became interested in the story and how it will develop. So far it seems like a good, easily readable YA novel with a private school setting many readers love. Already from the first 25 pages I could glimpse a few avenues of future conflict and plot twists.

Is it June 1st yet? I am so excited to read this book in full! Alternating perspectives are always something that intrigues me and the story has already drawn me in from just two chapters!
