I totally forgot what this book was even about by the time I started reading it but it completely hooked me from the beginning.

It's told in duel perspectives of a student named Devon who's just your average invisible music playing guy and Chiamaka who is the complete opposite as she's the popular over achiever with a Mean Girls mentality.

When Devon is voted to be one of the top students in his senior class, he's suddenly thrown in the spotlight, which isn't what he wants.

The sampler didn't give too much away of what these two have in common but the ending of it was just mean. I can't wait to read the the rest of this title when it's released in June!

Seems like a very promising excerpt! The plot is super intriguing and I've already fallen in love with the characters. This book definitely has some potential, will keep my eye out for it!

The excerpt definitely gave a hint at the suspense this book will have. I love a good campus novel. This snippet gave me a look at both Devon and Chiamaka. Both of them have something to hide. Technology is so useful and makes our lives easier but this looks like it will show how it can also bring a person down. The excerpt ends with Devon having a compromising photo leaked., II’m intrigued.

When I saw that this sneak peek of Ace of Spades, one of my most anticipated releases of the year, was available for read now, I immediately seized the opportunity. Faridah Abike-Iyimide's writing style captivated me from the first page, and I eagerly devoured each word of this excerpt. Devon and Chiamaka's voices are so distinct that it's as though they are narrating the events directly to me rather than through words on a screen. The scenes are described in such a way that I feel like I'm walking the halls of Niveus Private Academy along with Devon and Chiamaka. The sneak peek ends on such an intense note that I will be internally (as well as in messages to my friends, most likely) screaming with anticipation until this book's release on June 1st. Thank you to Macmillan Children's Publishing Group and Netgalley for making this sneak peek available!

I read the sneak peak of Ace of Spades, and I can not wait to read the full book when it comes out! The sneak peak included the first 25 pages of the story, which included three chapters that alternated between Devon and Chiamaka's POVs. I already like Devon's character and I am definitely intrigued by Chiamaka's character.

I don't think I've ever been this excited about a book just from reading the preview! I'm sure the rest of the book will be equally enthralling as the first three chapters - I'll definitely pick it up once it's fully released!

The writing style is beautiful and had me hooked from the beginning. It keeps you enraptured and is detailed without going too far and being boring. The main character is amazing. I would love to continue reading the book.

I MUST KEEP READING!!!! I was able to read the first 3 chapters of Ace of Spades, and it already drew me in. I love the all the different topics that will be touched upon in the book such as: LGBTQI, race, gender, and economic status. I can't wait to read the rest of the story and more from the Faridah Abike-Iyimide.

Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé is an incredible dark academia novel that delves into the systematic racism that is prevalent in our lives. The chapter sampler I read was captivating and intriguing. It has such a diverse cast of characters and not to mention the cover! It’s amazing

📚📚📚 Sneak Peak provided via @netgalley and @macmillanusa, written by @faridahlikestea. Devon and Chiamaka are high school seniors with high academic achievement. It is no surprise that Chiamaka is selected as senior top class prefect, but Devon as a prefect is a surprise. By the end of chapter 2, a photo of Devon has been circulated around school and he is in shock. I want to know what happens next and how it ends!

I really liked the first few chapters in this except. I loved seeing queer representation even in the first few chapters. All I want to do is read on in this book. I also really liked the dual perspective. I will say the wording of some of the lines were a little confusing but after rereading them I understood them. Also I’m really happy there is poc rep. All in all I’m really exited to read the full book.

I read a 25-page preview of Ace of Spades. The preview introduces us to the two main characters - Devon and Chimaka - both named prefects for the year. Chimaka is a Queen Bee who plans to go to an Ivy League school. Devon is focused on his music and is a bit shocked to be named.as a prefect.

I will say that this small bite of the book definitely affirmed that I want to read this book when it comes out. It also ended on a bit of a shock - so that made me want to read more.

I appreciated the sneak peek. Definitely reminded me of Gossip Girl, the movie Selah and the Spades, and the Netflix TV show Blood & Water. Should have a good built-in following with those comps, how active the author is online, and the big push from Macmillan.

This has got me really intrigued. Love the idea and I think it’s going to be a good one! Straight away the characters pulled you in, each chapter is in the first person and it really works. The setting is described brilliantly throwing me back to high school. Can’t wait to read more.

Thank you netgalley for giving me this arc sample in exchange for an honest review. I really like the concept for this book and really enjoyed the first 25 pages. I cant wait for the book to be released so I can continue to read and see where the story goes. I give this 3/5 stars for the introduction to the story.

I've heard so much about this book lately so when I saw a preview for it I figured I would give it a shot. Overall, I'm not sure that the first three chapters really gave me enough to feel compelled to pick up the book when it releases. I've been very much in the mood for a good mystery lately and was hoping this one would be intriguing especially with the mention of Get Out which is one of the few horror type movies I actually enjoyed. Neither of our two main characters really pulled me in to their side of of story either. I will admit the aces card showing up and most people seeming as if nothing happened seemed interesting to me and the overall plot sounds good but just basing it on the preview I read I'm not sure if this will be the book for me. I will definitely keep an eye out for other reviews to see if they thing things get better as it continues on and then I might try to pick it up from the library.

I love a good thriller, and I've heard amazing things about this one!

I picked up a sampler containing the first few chapters, and was slightly disappointed. There was nothing particularly engaging and the "hook" at the end didn't come with enough emotional attachment to have the effect it was going for. However, I'll be keeping an eye out for this book since I would be interested to see how it progresses!
