Thank you NetGalley! My kindergartner loved this one and so did my 2nd grader. The illustrations are fantastic and the characters are lovable. We loved this book!

This was not my favorite Megabat book. He was much too whiny and self centered. I liked the addition of the squirrel family. They added a nice comic aspect. I find that the way he talks sometimes is a little forced. I know it is supposed to sound cute and charming, and it mostly does, but once in a while you just want to make him shut up because the “cutesy” is just too much. Not sure if I will continue with the series. He seems to grow and adapt in each book and become a better version of himself, but then is right back where he was before in the start of the next book. It makes him less likable.

This is a Middle Grade/Children's book that would be good for early chapter book readers, and this is the 4th book in the Megabat series. I really loved this book, and this was a cute book. I think this book would be good for 2nd to 3rd graders that is just getting into chapter books. I also love that this book as some cute pictures. The Megabat character is so cute. I love that there is facts at the end of the book about the bats. I will be buying the first book in this book series for my daughter. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Tundra Books) or author (Anna Humphrey) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

IT'S FRIGGIN BATS. I love bats!! I love that this series shows bats differently than being gross and what have you. this was a cute read, children would love this for sure as there were lots of mashed up words which created a fun read

Cute story, and I am sure kids would love it! Bats are often not the main character, so it was nice to have an outcast as a lead.

This is such a cute little book. My granddaughter had me reading it every night for two weeks straight. I recommend this book

It was evident that this book was part of a series and I had not read the others. There were sections that did not make complete sense to me. I wanted to like this book, but Megabat's version of English drove me absolutely nuts. It reminded me of Junie B Jones and is not a good model for kids.

Once again, Megabat is the cutest series in kidlit middle grade right now. Dealing with jealousy and envy - especially around birthdays or holidays involving presents - is an issue that I don't think I've seen properly dealt with and this latest Megabat definitely does a great job.

2.5

I think I would’ve enjoyed this children’s book more if I had read other books in the series first. It would’ve given me the opportunity to get to know Megabat as a character. As it stands, I found his character to be extremely annoying. However, this is a book for kids and not adults and I think children would really enjoy Megabat’s different way of speaking and his relationship with his young best friend Daniel.

In this next book in the chapter book series, Megabat is feeling left out from Daniel's human birthday celebration, and decides to fly away. There's lots of classic Megabat humour (kids love his mixed up words, although I admit it drives me a bit crazy) and we are introduced to so many different characters, animal and human.

Some standout moments for me were when Megabat creates a fake mustache to give Daniel to make his teddy bear more "grown up," and when he ends up babysitting a family of squirrels. Plus, kids who are learning to tell time will relate to Megabat's clock anxiety and want to help him master it.

I got a chance to read a digital ARC of this, so big thanks to NetGalley and Tundra Books for making that available to do so.

Megabat is Daniel’s talking pet bat. It’s Daniel’s birthday and Megabat is excited because he’s never been to a birthday party. The problem is that no one else knows about Megabat, so he can’t take part in the party with Daniel’s friends. Megabat takes out his anger by breaking Daniel’s birthday present and running away. However, Megabat quickly realizes life isn’t as easy or fun without Daniel.

When I saw a Megabat book about a birthday coming out, I knew I had to review it on my birthday! I love Megabat. This is the third Megabat book that I’ve read and they keep getting better each time.

I don’t like bats as animals (I’ve had a couple of bats find their way into my house in the night and that wasn’t fun!) but I love Megabat! He’s not like regular bats because he can speak. He often gets his words mixed up and uses them incorrectly, which is so cute. He says “mine” and “yours” instead of “I” and “you.” One of my favourite Megabat phrases was “face windows.” I didn’t know what that meant at first, but then Daniel started talking about his glasses. I think “face windows” is such a cute way to describe eyeglasses!

This is such a fun series! I highly recommend it for young readers!

Thank you Penguin Random House Canada for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Love the use of funny words like "Spunktacular" and "Buttermelon". The artwork was adorable, Megabat is a cutie pie! His dance-off with the robot was hilarious, ha.

Very cute, accessible to children book about a bat and his humans. I like children’s works that portray bats positively, and even visually appealing, instead of how they have traditionally been portrayed — scary, evil, filthy, etc. Keep up the great work!

Megabat and the Not-Happy Birthday is the fourth book in the series featuring Megabat and his human friend Daniel. It's a cute chapter book for middle readers by Anna Humphrey, with illustrations by Kass Reich. Due out 2nd March 2021 from Penguin Random House on their Tundra imprint, it's 176 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a well written and entertaining book about friendship, planning, anticipation vs. reality, forgiveness, and more. The book has a positive message and manages to show a refreshing diversity in the characters without being strident. I liked it that Daniel shows emotion and isn't shamed for that.

Megabat is adorable, as are the other anthropomorphic characters such as Birdgirl. The human characters are generally helpful and cooperative. The illustrations are full of whimsy and gentle humor. The writing is appealing (and I love Megabat's vernacular - when he doesn't know the word for something, it doesn't stop him for a second; we should all be so brave).

This would make a great gift, bedtime family read, library or classroom circle read, or similar. There is good scope for discussion here about bravery, honesty, facing fears, going outside our comfort zones (even with things such as food and meeting new people), etc.

Just a really lovely book for youngsters. Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Megabat and Daniel are back for another adventure! It is Daniel’s birthday and Megabat wants to join but things start to get out of hand fast. This was a super cute story in the Megabat and Daniel book series. It’s a sweet story about celebrating your birthday and how sometimes our intentions can get a little out of hand. Overall, a really fun and cute read!

Thank you NetGalley and Tundra Books for the digital advance reading copy of this book.

This is the second Megabat book I have read from the Megabat series and this book was just as fun as the first one I read. This books deal with feelings that kids have on a regular basis of not fitting in and feeling left out but through the eyes of Megabat.

I love that Anna Humphrey includes information about bats and their natural habitats at the end of the book.
