Old Mrs. Kimble's Mansion is about returning home feeling like you couldn't do that before because you had something to prove. An obsession with money and being rich takes center stage. Not at all what I expected but enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this story of small town boy is successful in the world and returns home to show the town how good he has it. I saw well written characters and a well developed storyline. I received an advance review copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Old Mrs. Kinble's Mansion is a story about a man who left his home but never came back for a very long time. Taking place in Va. The description of the country is fabulous. The plot of this story, I kindly had to struggle through it but did finish. It's not at all what I thought it would be as in the characters and the writing. I didn't feel as I was part of this story and when that happens it's wonderful. It's a good read I'm sure for others it just wasn't for me. I will try to read another book from this author,George T.Arnold to compare. Received from Net Gallery and thank you.

Old Mrs. Kimbles mansion

I was given an ARC in return for my honest review

I thought that this was a thoughtful book about the main character, Forrest, he was scorned as a young man. He only wanted to live alone, build money and be a hermit. Of course with this being a book that isn’t going to be all that there is. He has an attorney, Olivia, she wants more the Forrest is willing to give. The book that follows is good. I enjoyed it. I would recommend to readers that enjoy mysteries with a little bit of a love story.

A middle aged man who has made a lot of money returns to his hometown to buy a tumbledown house that was next door to his house when he was growing up. He hadn't returned to the small town since high school. He buys the mansion for a fairly high price considering all the rehab that will go into it., but price is no object. He returns to livae in the house, but is disguised. I really saw no point to the book,, I kept waiting for the plot to begin. It didn't.

This book was pretty slow in the beginning and really didn't start speeding up until more than halfway through the book. Once the book sped up, I did get some eerie "who done it" vibes. I struggled to connect with the characters, which helps speed up the book. I believe this book was average and I am glad I read it but I don't think I would be reaching for it again.

This book took some twists and turns and ended up being a little mystery. I know this part of West Virginia and was happy to see so many of the beautiful sites included in the book. And finally a book that doesn’t make people from West Virginia (and Appalachia) sound like illiterate hillbillies. I didn’t love the book but I did think it was a quick read and the characters were relatable.

Forest has always been fascinated with Mrs. Kimble’s mansion. His sole purpose in being an extraordinarily successful real estate mogul is to own the mansion himself. Now in his forties he has enough money to buy the mansion. He sells his real estate practice in Chicago and moves back to his hometown in West Virginia. Olivia, his lawyer and friend, would like to have a love relationship with Forest and supports him in this endeavor. As he pursues the mansion and its refurbishing, she finds out he is still hung up on Maggie whom he thought was going to marry him until she called off the wedding. Until he confronts Maggie again, he cannot tell if his loss is keeping him from a real relationship with Olivia. It is fun to see what he has in mind for the mansion, to watch Olivia and Forrest’s relationship grow, and how he handles Maggie. Great book.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

Forrest Alderson is a man on a mission. Scorned as a young man, his only goal was to live frugally, alone, and be a workaholic to accumulate a massive amount of wealth. He has a goal for that wealth, the mansion in his hometown, the Old Mrs. Kimble Mansion.

Olivia Fillmore is Forrest's attorney and trusted friend. She wants more from Forrest but finds herself cut off at each move she makes. He finally confides in her his fears and desires. She works to make them all come true including her desire to become more than friends.

Old Mrs. Kimble's Mansion is a novel that explores when you have it all, and buy it all, does it really make you as happy as you thought it would? Are you do it to make yourself happy or to get revenge?

I want to thank NetGalley for a copy of this book. I found the story interesting. Forrest the main character lives as a poor child next to a decaying mansion. He was going to marry the love of his life and the week before she dumps him for Leroy, the towns bad boy.
Hurt and destroyed he makes it his lives purpose to make so much money he can buy the mansion.
The question in the books story as it develops is why, revenge, status, draw the love back into his life.
As the story unfolds there are children in consideration, additional marriages, and a murder to add to the intrigue.
I do not think this is a mystery, it is more like a love story. It would have been nice to know more about the mansion in Asher Heights, VA.
It was nice to read the scenery in West Virginia I am familiar with the beautiful areas. Especially in comparison to Chicago where his lawyer Olivia comes from in the story and has feeling for Forrest.

Forrest left his home town in his early 20s, after the lovely Maggie threw him over for LeRoy - the town's bad boy. Forrest resloved to become filthy rich and return to his hometown an undisputed success.
In his mid-forties, Forrest returns after buying Old Mrs Kimble's mansion. Under a different name, Forrest acts as the site manager - approving the renovation and hiring the crew, including Maggie's young daughter.
Olivia, Forrest's attorney, has flirted with him for years in the hopes of being more than friends.
Will Forrest be able to get past his decades old rejection?
I enjoyed this story about a man struggling with intimacy. And a murder.

An early copy of this book was sent to me by Netgalley free for review. I liked it because I grew up in WV and later lived there as an adult off and on. I was familiar with the places takes about in the book. I also received my Master’s from Marshall U. Local boy succeeds...love wins out...murder and mayhem...themes one enjoys while discerning who really did it...try this one...enjoyable...hope he does a sequel as it ended abruptly.

Old Mrs. Kimble’s Mansion by George T. Arnold -- 3 Stars
Publisher: Speaking Volumes
ISBN: ## 9781645403432

This book was in the category of mystery/ thriller/ suspense on Amazon and Netgalley, but there was not a hint of mystery until 63% into the story and very little suspense.
There are romantic elements, Christian beliefs, and descriptions of places in West Virginia. Not much was included about the history of the mansion. Forrest redecorated it to his taste to flaunt his wealth to the town. I found characters and parts of the story unbelievable. This book did not live up to its description and stellar reviews.

What was the driving force behind uber rich, middle-aged Forrest's purchase of Old Mrs. Kimble's mansion in the beautiful Appalachians, the mansion he loved dreaming of as a kid? Could it be revenge? Nostalgia? A project? Discovery? Forrest, his attorney, Olivia, and interior designer have a huge project on their hands. But Forrest has the resources.

As a kid, Forrest lived next to his dream mansion and then pursued it as an adult. He had been shockingly jilted by his fiance as a young college graduate and consciously focused on making money instead of building relationships so nothing would prevent him from buying the crumbling house and fixing it up. Along the way, a romance blooms and past secrets come to light. We see just how characters respond to these secrets.

Though the book is classified as a Mystery/Thriller there was very little suspense or tension. I had hoped for more regarding the mansion, too. To me parts of the story were implausible and the characters did not have very much depth. I did enjoy aspects of the book, however. Anything to do with old mansions draw me in so I enjoyed the descriptions and the premise of the story.

My sincere thank you to Speaking Volumes and NetGalley!
