I received a complimentary copy of A Cowboy Kind of Love in exchange for an honest review. I read this as a standalone even though it's part of a series. I really enjoyed the beginning and the preface of the novel, and wandering what led Taryn to disappear for 5 years. I also thought there would be more of a storyline with Jace's excessive drinking.
However, this novel quickly deviated from small town cowboy to an impromptu and completely unrealistic military special forces op which led to the take down of a notorious drug pin. This was a complete switch and bate in plots, and was not appealing to me as a reader. Super disappointed..

It was great to get back to Clearview, TX, and meet up with all the gang. They do play a big part in here, but this can still read as a stand alone.
This is Jace and Taryn's journey. She and her family disappeared one night years ago, and even with resources, he couldn't track her down. He's hittin' rock bottom when he swears he saw her. Of course nothing can prepare him for what had really happened to her, now he's out for blood. Nothing is as it seems though, all his "brothers" are with him to form a plan, execute, and return safely.
A twisty mystery, with some heat I honestly could've skipped as there were things to get done.
I love journeys to the HEA. This one, while very good, took just a few detours, and lengthy explanations, that for me, slowed the flow. Still a very intriguing read.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I just didn't like this book very much. Maybe it's because it's the sixth book in a series that I hadn't read before, but I couldn't get behind the plot, nor the romance. Overall, this book just wasn't for me.

Loads of action and a sweet romance.

One thing about this series, I wouldn’t go into thinking that it is simply a cowboy romance. These books, and this story, is so much more than that. This is a story about a group of ex-military guys that go all in to protect their own.
This book is not as much on the cowboy part as it is on the ex-military part. Protecting their own is number one for these guys and Jace is especially all in for this romance when we swears he saw Taryn in town again.
Grant loads this one full of secrets, long-lost loves, and a fat second chance romance wrapped around a crazy plot that drips of testosterone! This is a romantic suspense with a wild twist at the end that really blows your mind about family and friends!
Grant balances the right amount of romance to suspense which turns this book into an engrossing easy read that totally satisfies all of your senses! While Taryn was not a favorite character at certain points for me, Jace was a hottie that perfectly fit the bill. Kind, loving, uber protective, and a bit of a bad ass!
Fabulous story!

This is a very exciting suspense story. There's lots of action and surprises. Author Donna Grant has done a superb job of ratcheting up the tension as the storyline progresses. Definitely an edge-of-your-seat experience. I liked all the characters, especially the two main characters, Taryn Hillman and Jace Wilder. It was great getting to revisit the characters from the previous books in the Heart of Texas series.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

A Cowboy Kind of Love (Heart of Texas #6) by Donna Grant
First of all I loved this series... and this book was fantastic. It is Jace and Taryn's story and what a story it is .. they are in love then she disappears and then appears years later with a horrid secret. This book has angst, terror, evil, violence, bad guys, good guy, also old friends who always stand by each other, laughter, tears happy and sad, plenty of steam to get us to a very HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Witty Great world building Romantic Scary Tragic Wonderful characters Tear-jerker Page-turner Entertaining Unpredictable Haunting Twisted Steamy Action-packed Easy-to-read Happily Ever After

I just never got into this even though it’s set up as a romance thriller. Maybe it’s because it’s established since before the book opens that Jace is deeply in love with Taryn except she mysteriously disappeared five years ago. Now we find out the back story and it’s completely horrible. But she meets up with Jace again and he is able to summon all his good buddies - a sort of Avengers team of super studly former military guys who can, within 24 hours, put together a plan to bring down the super scary drug kingpin who has basically enslaved Taryn for the past five years. And they all live in this same small Texas town and have almost all of them found badass women to marry. Imagine that.
The bad guys were suitably evil and the good guys were unbelievably talented and dedicated and good. It became almost cartoonish.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

Oh my, see...this right here? This is why I love a good cowboy read! A Cowboy Kind Of Love is a phenomenal contemporary cowboy romance. Jace is ex-military with the PTSD to prove it. Now he wonders if he's going crazy because he imagines seeing his girlfriend that disappeared years ago. Taryn's family was basically kidnapped and moved out of town and relocated because of her father's drug problem. Jace and Taryn's story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. This book grabbed me and didn't let go until the end. I loved it and look forward to my next book by Donna Grant. A Cowboy Kind of Love is book 6 of the Heart of Texas Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Whoo boy, this was another really heavy book! And another Donna Grant novel where I loved the suspense part, but the romance just felt a bit…tepid.
I think my problem this time was with the main characters. I just could not bring myself to like Taryn at all. I wanted to shake her for most of the book and her decision making drove me up the wall! I did like Jace but it took me a while to warm up to him as well which, in a romance depending on the characters, wasn’t ideal. After the midway point though I did begin to really enjoy Jace as the hero and wanted him to get his HEA.
I’ll admit that second chance romances are always a bit of a struggle for me. I’m naturally a very bitter person and it takes a while for me to forgive anyone so I found myself against Taryn right from the start. The pain Jace feels right from the beginning is so vividly drawn that it’s hard to see Taryn’s side of things, even though her backstory is absolutely heart-breaking. There is a lot of dark stuff in her past that forces her choices and decisions and you can see why she makes them, even when you’re screaming at her to just trust in Jace!
It didn’t help that I couldn’t see any tension between the two either and the sex scenes were pretty bland to me. There was no build up. It was pretty similar to book 5 really in that everything happens so fast, they meet up again, they have sex, and then the plot takes over.
Gosh the story in this one was engaging though. That suspense! There is a lot playing out, with several different plots and twists that took me completely by surprise. The reveals had me glued to the page and I couldn’t wait to finish to find out how it all played out in the end.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is another fantastic fast-paced suspense novel that was a bit of a let down for me in the romance department. It was a good read, and a nice addition to the series, I just wish there was more time spent developing the connection between Jace and Taryn.

Love the cover! Sixth in a series and my second book of the series. Each can be read as a stand alone and blurb caught my eye!
What did I like? Second chance romance anyone? Jace can’t quite get over Taryn despite the years it’s been. After she left him with just basically a text he hasn’t recovered. Taryn has certainly bit off more than she can chew in this war with drug dealers as she tries to save what’s left of her family. She turns to Jace for help.
Would I recommend or buy? If you like ex military who still do investigative work then these seem to be a close knit bunch. Taryn was a hard female lead to like and the book I felt was a little hard to enjoy. If you’ve enjoyed the series you should read this book!
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review. Three stars.

We are back in Clearview, TX where we have met some of the strongest cowboys, former military men, and the women they love.
This time the story belongs to Jace Wilder, a former POW and rodeo cowboy who fell in love with a woman that disappeared in the middle of the night never to be seen again. A woman that years later still haunts his dreams . The one he can’t forget.
Taryn Hillman is that woman. She left town after she and her family were forced to leave due to the fact that her father owed money to a drug king.
Determined to end the exile and find a way to pay the man back, she returns to town. Never expected to encounter Jace . A man that will do anything to help her and keep her safe.
This story is filled with bad guys, hunky good ones, and of course, romance.
Though it was not my favorite story the series and for me a 3.5 stars story, it was still entertaining.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

I have been provided with a review copy of A Cowboy Kind of Love from NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the sixth book in the Heart of Texas series and I just loved getting to reenter this amazing world. This book was just so easy to get lost in. I completely got lost in the story and I just loved getting to see these new characters come together. I just absolutely love this story and I just didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Jace Wilder and Taryn Hillman were in love--and then disaster fell on them.
Ever since her mother's death, Taryn had worked to keep her family together, functional, and out of trouble--with only mediocre success. Her father and brother were working for a drug lord, and one awful night, the drug lord descended on them, and announced they were all--her father, her brother Ben, her younger sister Payton, and Taryn herself, coming with him.
They were all going to work for him, selling drugs, to pay off the debts her father had incurred. She persuaded the drug lord, Boyd Walters, to keep her sister out of it, if she earned twice as much, and she succeeded. Even after Boyd kills her father and brother, she's still doing it, to keep Payton safe. But now she wants to get Payton and herself out altogether, and she's cut a new deal with Boyd. It means going back to Clearview, and she might run into Jace, but she has to do it.
Jace has been trying to patch up his wound, both from Taryn's sudden departure with her family, with only a single text to tell him she wouldn't be back, and his years in the Afghanistan war. It hasn't been working, and lately he's been doing too much drinking, and he doesn't know whether it's the alcohol, hallucination, or reality, when he thinks he sees Taryn in town again.
Taryn's only real hope--other than Jace, whom she doesn't want to ask because she doesn't want to risk him getting on Boyd's radar--falls through badly, when the local crime boss finds out who exactly she owes the debt to. And when Jace sees her a second time, he knows it's really her, and won't let her get away without telling him the truth.
Or at least, some of it. She's still trying to keep him from getting too involved, even now that she has nowhere else to go for help.
But Jace is going to do what he needs to for her, and his ex-military buddies are going to help.
The truth is more tangled than even Taryn knows, and what they're going to do is more dangerous than any of them really knows.
It's a good story, but a little darker than I was really looking for. There are some very bad people involved, and not only the ones you expect. Still, a solid story, and a good romance.
Recommended with the above caveat.
I received a free electronic galley from the publisher via NetGalley, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

This book was definitely hard to put down, but in some spots the writing was kind of weird. Other than that I thought it was phenomenal!
Even though it's a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
It definitely had a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. It's more of a suspense and romance than just a romance, but I really enjoyed this novel.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I know that I have mentioned this in the past, but I enjoy reading cowboy/western romances. Something about a cowboy gives me shivers. I also like reading military romances. They can have an ex or current military, and I will read it. So when I read the blurb for A Cowboy Kind of Love, I knew I needed to read it.
Donna Grant is also one of my favorite romance authors. I have devoured all of her romances (regular and fantasy). So, when I saw that she had written another book in the Heart of Texas series, again, I knew I needed to read it.
Now, you would figure that I would have been head over heels for A Cowboy Kind of Love by what I wrote in the previous two paragraphs. Yeah, let’s talk about that.
I had a hard time getting into the book. I have no real reason why I had such a hard time with that, but I did. In turn, my not being able to get into the book translated into me not reading it. It took me a few days to get through it.
I didn’t care for the main characters. I was not too fond of Taryn for a good majority of the book and downright disliked her initially. As for Jace, he didn’t push my buttons as a leading man at first. But after the middle of the book, he pushed those buttons.
The storyline was engaging. Taryn and her family were kidnapped by the leader of a massive drug cartel. After watching her brother and father murdered in front of her, she offered to work for him to pay off their debt. Like I said, interesting.
The flow of the book was good, for the most part. There were times where it lagged (mainly in the middle). I also believe that deviating from the dual storylines messed with the flow too. It was fine when the book was switching from Taryn to Jace and back again. But throw in 3-4 other POV’s, and it did get distracting.
The romance angle of the book was a little “eh.” It didn’t scream Instalove, but it was close. I didn’t give it the Instalove tag because of the history between Jace and Taryn. They dated for two years, and he was about to propose when she disappeared.
The sex scenes, which generally are hot in any Donna Grant book, came across as tepid. Jace and Taryn didn’t do it for me. There was no build-up, no accidental touches, nothing. It was Taryn showing up at Jace’s house, saying her piece, and then they banged. Set on repeat for the rest of the book.
The suspense angle of the book was terrific. The author dragged it out until I was screaming. Talk about keeping me on edge. There was also a couple of twists that made me shriek when they were revealed. One is what happened to Taryn’s sister, and the other was Brick. Not saying much more, but I wasn’t expecting either one of those secondary storylines to turn out the way they did.
The end of A Cowboy Kind of Love was busy. There was so much going on that I did have a hard time following it. Once it settled down, I was dumbstruck (see above). The author did wrap up Taryn and Jace’s storyline, and she also teased at the next romance (a possible book 7??).
I wasn’t a big fan of A Cowboy Kind of Love. I was not too fond of the main female lead. I did like the storyline and thought the suspense angle was fantastic!!
I would recommend A Cowboy Kind of Love to anyone over the age of 21. There is sex and violence. Jace has flashbacks/nightmares of when he was a POW. Taryn was kidnapped, seperated from her sister, and forced to work off her deceased father and brother’s debt. She was also forced to watch when her father and brother were executed.

Fast paced, exciting with just a touch of steam make the perfect combination page turner. This series is fantastic Donna.

I have enjoyed all the stories in the Heart of Texas series that I have read; this one is no exception. This is Jace and Taryn's story and of course there are dire circumstances that require all the "boys" and their significant others to rally together and help. I found this story just as intense/edge of my seat/nail biting; as pervious ones where one or both of the main characters are in some kind of trouble.
Taryn disappeared years ago with just a short-text to Jace saying it was over and then there was no trace of her or her family. Jace doesn't know how to get over Taryn and move-on as they all say. His buddy drags him home from the bar where he drank himself into oblivion in the hopes that he would stop thinking about Taryn and all the might have beens had she not left. What Jace finds is his door unlocked and a shadow in his kitchen that he believes to be Taryn. Then he figures that it's all just a figment of his drunken imagination.
Taryn's in deep trouble and at a loss as to how to get out of it. Wherever she turns no one is willing to help her. So, as a last resort, she goes to the one person that she knows would help her, no matter what: Jace Wilder. Although, she really doesn't want to drag him into her deadly predicament; it's all to get her and her sister away from the person holding them; alive.
This is a well written story with great characters both good and bad. The story flows well and kept me reading to see what would happen next. There are some sex scenes in the book and it has drug dealers/lords, murders, law enforcement officers/agents, and intrigue. A very enjoyable, quick read.

A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is the next novel in her Heart of Texas Series. Jace Wilder is the next bachelor cowboy to be searching for his long lost love in this series and when he thinks he sees her in his house one night, he's pretty sure it was the alcohol that made her appear and that she wasn't really there. But was she?
In the meantime, Taryn had returned to her hometown, where her one true love lived, hoping to find help to save herself and her sister. They had gotten involved in a notorious drug ring and she was given on last assignment after which she was told she and her sister could walk away and have their lives back. But was that really going to happen? When Jace finds out that Taryn really was not an illusion and pulls out all stops to help her, but she's in much deeper than he could have ever imagined so he enlists the help of all of his friends to bring down the syndicate that she's been enslaved by...but will they be successful?
A novel that has you sitting on the edge of your seat until the end! Thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Taryn left in the middle of the night with no explanation to Jace. 5 yrs later she comes back ready to fight to free her sister and herself and the only person that could help was her love Jace. Once Jace heard everything things were planned but as always there were things that was discovered.

I have really enjoyed this series and this book fit right in. It was nice to see Jace get his story. And also it was good to see him on the receiving end of the help that was needed, like all the others. Family isn't always blood and Jace discovers that. Of course he learned that the hard way. But it's all good now.
