I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

Just my type of book! I love the archetypal flawed detective with a traumatic past and DCI Eleanor Raven does not disappoint. Although I haven't read the first two in the series (I definitely will now!) I didn't feel like this held me back at all.

The storyline itself is fast paced, a little gruesome at times and so full of twists and turns you daren't put it down in case you miss something. This is an excellent book and one that I will definitely be recommending.

The third book in the DI Eleanor Raven series and WOW just WOW…. I’m still reeling from this one, its dark! I didn’t think it was possible after the first two books but this series is just getting better and better. This is a cracking follow up to “Cry for Mercy” and “Perfect Little Dolls” even if very disturbing content, it’s a fast paced well written plot that will grip you from the turn of the first page…. Raven is also not your typical Detective with some very personal issues much to the dismay of her colleagues who are still struggling with it! I look forward to seeing where the story develops her relationship with her partner, Det Laurence Whitefoot!

I couldnt put this book down. It was a fast paced book that keeps you on your toes. I felt it was very realistic and not over the top. It was so addictive and thats a good sign for a book.

Overall this was an enjoyable read but I wish I had read the previous two books. Feels like I would have had more of a feel for the characters and the storyline. It was still a good read as a standalone though.

Definitely recomended.

"What She Knew" by Karen Long is the third novel in the DI Eleanor Raven of the Toronto Police Service series.
This latest book by Karen was excellent I couldn't put this book down once I started; it's full of so many twists and turns throughout which made this book a brilliant read.

I am so looking forward to Karen's next installment. I highly recommend this DI Eleanor Raven series

Big thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC in return for my honest review.

What She Knew was previously published as The Cold Room.

Angela is having a good morning. She's fixing breakfast for her children, it's early, and someone is banging on the door. She looks to see who it is .. and immediately grabs her kids and try to usher them out the back door.

Angela knows her visitor, she knows why they’re here, and she’ll never give up her children.

Police are called and Angela's terrified children tell DI Eleanor Raven about those last few moments before their mother was taken away.

DI Raven and partner Laurence Whitefoot are called to the is at the scene of a domestic situation which turns into a hostage situation .... and a skeletal hand.

The closer they get to the truth, the more questions they can't answer. Raven's past comes into play in this well-crafted crime fiction/psychological fiction. The fast-paced suspense starts on the very first page and holds steady to the unexpected, surprising conclusion. The characters, as with the first two books in this series, are solidly drawn. Although 3rd in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend reading in order, as Raven and Whitefoot are unique characters.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of WHAT SHE KNEW. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I was intrigued from the start as I got my introduction to Eleanor Raven as she is undergoing hypnosis, perhaps this is some clue as to what has happened in previous books. I will certainly find out shortly as I plan to read the first two books as soon as possible after having read this BRILLIANT instalment

What She Knew is the latest installment in the DI Eleanor Raven series. The story begins with a chilling murder - suicide. At first glance, this seems like an open-and-shut case. However, things become complicated when a human hand is discovered at the crime scene.

DI Raven continues to grow on me. It took time to warm up to her. In the first book, I was taken aback by some of her risk conduct. However, my feelings for her have changed with the progress of the series. I really like her team. Whitefoot continues to be a favorite and so does Mo. I also enjoy the banter at the station and I like the dog, Monster, who is now part of the team although he doesn’t seem to do much police work. That dog is only excelling in breeding, eating and sleeping lol.

This was quite a complex case with quite a number of components that appear disconnected at first. The connection was mind blowing and definitely did make it a fantastic, unique read. The conclusion was unexpected but quite satisfactory.

Compelling story-telling, engaging investigation and a team of deftly crafted characters, this is another winner in my books. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and I highly recommend What She Knew.

I found this book to be a lot more gruesome than some of the mystery thrillers I usually read. I didn't like the story or the characters. This is a complete miss for me.

This is a very good series with a great lead character who has her own problems. Fast paced and gritty where nothing is quite what it seems.

A military man kills his wife before committing suicide. When Detective Eleanor Raven retrieves the body, she discovers a hand leading to a case underpinned by cannibalism. In a seemingly unrelated case, the bodies of six dogs are discovered and a human murder swiftly follows...
What She Knew is the third book in the Eleanor Raven series. There are numerous references to the previous books so I would advise reading them in order if chronology is important to you. (I have only read the second Perfect Little Dolls).
Eleanor is still a tenacious but deeply flawed woman. This puts her at odds with the press and her own colleagues, but definitely her superiors find her frustrating! Her own mental health is in question following events in previous books: can she trust her own judgement?
There are three main strands of plot for Eleanor to unpick. First is the murder-suicide of Eddie Myles, then there is the convicted killer admitting to new victims, and finally the teenager escalating from animal killings to human. She is thwarted by the first case as the military crowd her out of the investigation. Skepticism plagues her attitude to the second.
The third case is the main one in my eyes. We see some third person perspective of the killer and this makes him human and scary. He is a believable character which makes him seem more dangerous. HIs mental fragility contrasts with Eleanor's force of personality.
The action and plot get underway straightaway and pushes on relentlessly across the pages. What She Knew is an engaging crime and detective thriller with a strong female lead and complex plot.

I absolutely adore this author so instantly jumped at this blog tour which is for the third book in this series. This is a dark gritty novel which will keep the reader on the edge of their seat and desperately turning page after page.

This is a gripping and addictive novel which I have devoured in one sitting. This is an unpredictable read which the author has filled with twists and turns. I am a huge fan of this author and this is quite possibly my favourite book yet.

I love how this is filled with tension and suspense. It has made this a novel which is impossible to put down and really keeps you guessing as a reader. There is nothing negative I can say about this novel. It is a definite five star read.

What She Knew is the third novel to feature DI Eleanor Raven of the Toronto Police Service. Angela Myles and her three young children are being held hostage in their own home by Angela's ex-husband, army veteran Eddie Myles. Eleanor and Detective Laurence Whitefoot are called out to investigate but the resolution of the situation results in more questions than answers and Eleanor must add it to her ever-growing caseload whilst dealing with her own mental healing.

This mystery/thriller had me so engrossed from the first chapter until the final page. It was speedily-paced, tense and completely gripping, it had a brilliant opening and it really packed a helluva punch! Eleanor Raven was a wonderfully drawn character, dark, highly intelligent and vulnerable who didn't suffer fools gladly. She made What She Knew a great read, as she was pushed to her limits to halt the killer(s). Eleanor's therapy appears to be working and she is avoiding self-destructive behaviour. Karen Long’s fascinating and addictive storytelling really worked for me and I loved that this story had a gritty edge. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and I highly recommend What She Knew.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.

Firstly I must laugh as I started this book I thought these characters all seem familiar but this is book three and I've not read book 1 or 2. Turns out I read book 2 in January perfect little dolls so yes they seemed familiar as it wasn't my first time meeting them, yet I still haven't read book 1 I think that's my mission before book 4!!

What she knew focuses on three different crimes we start with a husband holding his family hostage he is armed forces turns out there's a lot more to him, then we have the boiler room boy who trigger warning ⚠️ hangs dogs and then we have the dead man in the street. They all seem to have no link but ofcourse they do. Eleanor is finishing her mandated therapy and feeling more open about letting others in, but then she is told she has to continue with therapy but with a new therapist. All this whilst juggling the three cases. Mo Mags and Laurence are all here as well Mo feels old and Laurence is going through a messy divorce. They are all helping Eleanor and her case load.

I enjoyed this book but I must admit I preferred book two. I honestly felt like too much was going on at once and it had a very obvious outcome but that's not to say I didn't enjoy getting to the big reveal. What I will say is that one conclusion had me a bit mift if I'm honest but I forgive the author this.

I wish the chapters were shorter because we jump from each character throughout. I can tell Karen Long is trying to show us what's happening adjacent to the others but I could of down with natural resting points. So the flow at times seemed a bit jumpy. But as I reflect I wonder if that was done on purpose die to the subject matter and conclusion.

With book 2 I said it can be read stand alone, yet I don't think it's the same for book 3. So much of Eleanor's historical past is brought to the forefront u honestly felt lost myself.

I honestly think the plot is quite clever and I did enjoy it! I felt like a discussion about armed focuses covering up stuff under the concept of mental health and how it can be exploited. I found that an interesting read. It is done really well and you can tell its been done with the respect ir deserves.

Would I recommend?
Yes, however if you can read the first two books. So much history is ignored or lost if you haven't for example her visiting Tony who was the killer who created a family from dead bodies, it was well creepy.
I give this book 3 stars I enjoyed it but just a disappointment in conclusion.

Thanks to netlley the publishers and K. Long for the ARC in exchange for my fair and honest opinion.
