Embark on a whimsical journey with Weenie, the irresistibly food-obsessed wiener dog, and his quirky companions, Frank and Beans! "Mad About Meatloaf" is a delightful early graphic novel that promises laughter, adventure, and a hearty dose of cuteness for young readers, making it an instant hit in the world of Narwhal and Jelly and The Bad Guys.

I must say, this book is a real gem for the little ones. From the charming dynamics between Weenie, Beans, and Frank to the hilarious escapades centered around Weenie's undying love for meatloaf, every page is a burst of joy and entertainment. The vivid illustrations bring these lovable characters to life, making it an engaging visual treat for the young readers.

Weenie's relentless pursuit of the ultimate meaty delight is not only amusing but also cleverly woven into a tale of friendship and shared adventures. The addition of a trench coat disguise, a wild meatloaf trap, and the unexpected involvement of a hungry wolf adds layers of humor and excitement that will surely capture the imaginations of young minds.

As someone who appreciates a good dose of cuteness and fun, I found "Mad About Meatloaf" to be a really cute and enjoyable read. I have no doubt that young readers will adore the quirky charm of Weenie and his pals. This book is a fantastic addition to the collection of any child who loves a hearty laugh and a delightful adventure.

Mad About Meatloaf is an absolutely hysterical graphic novel. My 7 year old actually cackled while reading it.
The illustrations are great and had an old timey cartoon feel to them.
Great choice for your early elementary kiddos.

This was a fun and silly book that I can't wait to recommend to our kids when all the Dog Man books are checked out. I can't resist a good story of pets getting into all kinds of mischief!

MAD ABOUT MEATLOAF introduces Weenie a wiener dog who just happens to love meatloaf. He has two friends. Frank is a cat and Beans is a guinea pig. They all live together in Bob’s house who is the human that takes care of them
MAD ABOUT MEATLOAF is the first book in the delightful Weenie series. The illustrations are colourful and pleasing. I enjoyed the hijinks and the lessons learned.
Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced digital edition of this book.

I own a wiener dog, so obviously had to pick up book one of this new Weenie Featuring Frank and Beans series. I really loved Weenie's bffs, Frank and Beans. I think this is a great "actions have consequences" story for young readers.

Any more, we see a fair number of books about pets and their interactions, their secret lives. What I appreciate about this one is that the animals are true to the nature of their species. The dog is obsessed with food and has a short attention span. HE doesn't second guess ideas. The cat is angry and manipulative. This does mean that the plot and characters are pretty cliched.

3.5 stars = Good+

This is silly and fun and funny - I think kids will get a real kick out of it! (I loved how Frank was the devil on the shoulder while Bean was the angel!) It a fun graphic novel with characters kids are going to love.

I am new to this particular dog group of animal friends and their human, Bob. The book is a cute story about the dog’s obsession with meatloaf and what happened when he was faced with temptation; told in six short comic book style “chapters.”

As Bob’s pets, the three animals have a type of friendship where the cat (Frank) puts up with the others out of boredom, the dog (unfortunately named--so BN will not allow it mentioned--a Weiner dog) is sure everyone loves him, and the adorable guinea pig, Beans, is the rule-keeper and conscience for the group. Kids will especially enjoy that the humans in the story are generally clueless and easy to trick—making silly antics more fun.

It’s the usual dynamic, but “little known facts,” word definitions, and the animal characters speaking directly to the audience set it apart.

4/5 Stars

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this very cute children's graphic book. The friendship between Weenie and his friends, a cat named Frank and a guinea pig named Beans, is adorable. This book was fun to read aloud and it produced a lot of laughter. The illustrations are fun and it was an enjoyable story. There is also a lesson to be learned about taking something that does not belong to you.

I will look for more children's reading adventures from Maureen Fergus.

THIS is absolutely ADORABLE. What a fun story about three friends [Weenie, the Wiener Dog, Frank the Cat, and Beans the Guinea Pig] who are just trying to live their best lives all while keeping Weenie out of trouble [which is a tough thing most days]. Bob [their human] has made a meatloaf and that happens to be Weenie's most favorite thing. What happens next and the consequences of Weenie's actions will be a good lesson for kids all while providing a laugh with the lesson. The end, with the reminder that friendship is the best of everything just makes this a really great read. The adults reading this will enjoy it as much as the kids they are reading it to will. Well done.

Thank you to NetGalley, Maureen Fergus, Alexandra Bye [Illustrator], and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received an electronic ARC from Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley.
Delightful new series for mid-elementary level readers. Weenie is a wiener dog and is obsessed with meatloaf. Together with his two friends Frank the cat and Beans the guinea pig, he works hard to get the meatloaf sitting on the counter and just take one bite. Readers will appreciate the humor throughout as they watch Weenie make plans, choices and take actions that don't always work out as he expects. Simple to follow text and cute illustrations that capture the antics of these three pets. Looking forward to introducing them to our students.

This is funny graphic novel that early readers will enjoy reading. My only objection is that the author refers to the dog as a weiner dog throughout the story and in my opinion, readers are smart enough to use the correct vocabulary of dachshund.

My son is an extremely reluctant reader. Mad About Meatloaf kept him turning the pages and laughing out loud! As a mom and a teacher, I'm always on the lookout for fun books that will appeal to the most reluctant readers. This one did the trick!
