Such a cute little book! Great book for juvenile readers. I even had my 10 year old read this and she absolutely loved it and hopes there will be a second one in the series! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Super fun and cute story! The characters are well developed. The story had me laughing! Definitely a book to share with you students or your own kids at home!

I really wanted to like this book, but overall I do not think it had good examples of behavior for kids. They are able to come up with trouble enough ontheir owna nd don't need any more influenced by a book. With that said, I think they would enjoy this graphic novel, but I would not encourage or recommend it to my kids.

Mad About Meatloaf by Maureen Fergus is a fun book for elementary aged students. My son loved the combination of chapters to read and comics. He thought the book was a lot of fun, and that is high praise from him. We recommend it! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

This was a fun story about a dog (Weenie), a cat (Frank), and a guinea pig (Beans). The illustrations were fun and attention grabbing. Beans tries to keep Weenie out of trouble, while Frank seem to try and get Weenie into trouble.

Weenie is really obsessed with meatloaf which is crazy because meatloaf is gross even if your a dog! I think kids will have a fun time reading this book series.

My kids are really into the graphic novel style children's books right now so I've read a ton of them. I thought this one was so so fun. Who wouldn't love cats, dogs and hamsters as the main characters ?! And they are just so funny as well. The illustrations are captivating and engaging and the banter is perfect for this age group.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the digital ARC of this book.

I absolutely need a Beans in my life!

Super cute story with bold and colourful illustrations that any child (or 32 year old) is guaranteed to enjoy. Highly recommend and look forward to the next installment.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

This little book is super cute and light-hearted. I don’t doubt that children will love it’s upbeat nature and fun, colorful illustrations. For me, the story seems a little distracted and ends too abruptly. Some of the dialogue is a little awkward/choppy. But otherwise, it’s fun!

Litercurious Partial Review of Mad About Meatloaf by Maureen Fergus

CONCLUSION

In Mad About Meatloaf, Maureen Fergus has created the perfect combination of a small cast of characters that work together to create havoc. The comic book style suits the tale and it quickly engages the reader into the surreal world of Weenie, Frank and Beans. Humorous throughout, expertly illustrated, exquisite in its colorful presentation, Mad About Meatloaf is the perfect gift for any young child. Every aspect of the book is child appropriate and the captivating story is sure to find favor with both children and adults. Highly recommended read. I can’t wait to review book number 2.

The illustrator, Alexandra Bye, has created a beautiful colorful world for Weenie and friends to inhabit. The stories are easy to follow and are engaging, entertaining, and above all amusing.

It is a great story about a dog, a cat and a guinea pig, who are friends and live in the same house. This is a graphic novel that follows this trio on Frank's quest to get to the meatloaf that their owner made. I read this with my 8 year old daughter and we both enjoyed the story. This book is appropriate for kids ages 6-10.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

I originally read this on the Kindle app, but the formatting was off. I moved over to the Netgalley app and was able to read it in its proper format.

This is an adorable early reader graphic novel, with easy words. Great for fans of Narwhal & Jelly, this has three incredibly cute animals and a fun story.

Everyone can relate to wanting to eat something so badly you can’t think of anything else!

Will definitely recommend to my young patrons looking to transition into graphic novels.

I really enjoyed this little book with my first grader. She enjoyed the quickness, colorful characters and the mission to repair the damage done by Weenie eating Bob's meatloaf. The mailman at grocery store was her favorite part. Great addition to any young reader's library or reluctant reader up to third grade.

This was such a cute book! I was laughing and smiling all the way through! The images are colorful and the cartoon style works great with the story. The way Frank and Beans work as angel and devil to weenie and his bad ideas is great! I would like this book to be a little longer just to make the plot feel more complete.

Overall, this is a great early reader graphic novel that any dog loving kid will enjoy!

This is such a super cute graphic novel. The illustrations add to the story and are eye-catching enough to engage the reader even more to the story. Following the journey of goofy but loveable Weenie, serious and sensible Beans, and mischievous and sarcastic Frank, readers will learn the meaning of friendship and choices. The interaction flowed naturally and leads the reader to want to continue on the journey. The only disappointment was that there were not more definitions of unfamiliar words for young readers. The one and only instance of this added an element of cuteness to the story that a young reader will pick up the education level without realizing it. Overall I would recommend this series to any young reader at my library. Full disclosure I may be biased in my love of this book as I do own a Wiener dog, named Beanie who very much carries Weenie's personality. He loves meatloaf too!

This is 100% exactly everything that my 7-year-old second grader loves in a book. Pure ridiculousness and humor - and a good ending with a lesson. Great graphic novel, can't wait to read more with him!

Weenie loves eating cows, and doesn’t feel bad about it either

Weenie loves meatloaf as much as Garfield loves Lasagna.
Figures. Don’t you know that it’s a dog-eat cat world? Or, in this case, a dog teases cat world.
Or, better said, it’s a cat teases dog world. Oh. Heck. I don’t know.
All I do know is that it’s not a dog-eat-dog world.
It’s a dog-eat cow world. Because Weenie LOVES meatloaf!
This darling graphic novel could not be more perfect for my first-and second-grade grandchildren who are neck-deep in the process of falling in love with reading.
During the 1970s, reading Peanuts cartoons in signet paperback book form was my greatest pleasure. I felt so accomplished finishing book after book of strip comics depicting Charlie Brown, that evil football-snatching Lucy, sweet little sister Sally, and adorable Linus.
Today, my grandchildren’s favorite graphic novels are more along the lines of Captain Underpants, and Dog Man. Cute, but a bit more, ah, Great-Grandma-Prudy-Pants offensive. But not Mad About Meatloaf! This book is 100-percent cute. Great Grandma PP would approve.
Introducing Mad About Meatloaf (Weenie featuring Frank and Beans Book #1), authored by Maureen Fergus. This early-reader chapter graphic novel stars the charming, mischievous, and enduringly hungry Weenie, who is, of course, a wiener dog.
In this first novel, our intrepid Weenie is laser-focused on eating his “Bob’s” meatloaf, conveniently sitting atop a counter, precariously close to the edge, waiting like a police-sting hooker to be victimized.
Weenie’s friends, Frank the cat and Beans the guinea pig, argue with the suave little wiener because they do not agree whether eating Bob’s meatloaf is a house-sanctioned activity. Once they decide Weenie is a hero for teaching Bob the lesson of sharing, they dig into the challenge and work together to accomplish Weenie’s goal.
Illustrations? Just darling. Story? Predictable – but it should be that way.
A long line of first- and second-grade angels watched over this author Fergus as she penned this little book and an even heavier blessing was bestowed upon illustrator Alexandra Bye who breathed life into these friends when she created the illustrations.
Mad About Meatloaf is a God-send to parents whose children struggle to fall in love with the foundational lifeblood of eye-opening, world-rocking knowledge available through reading.
Perhaps this book was intended to be something else. A gift book? A table topper? That’s easy to see. Weenie Loves Meatloaf could serve either of those categories. It could also spark a good old-fashioned newspaper or online-inbox comic strip as popular as its reverse-the-animal-characters near-clone, Garfield.
It doesn’t matter.
Right now, the only relevant thing is this:
Weenie loves meatloaf … and he wants more.
By the way, I live with my very own Weenie. But he is much taller, a jet-black labrador retriever named Romeo, and does not need a cat, or any of his other dog pack members to help him skim the counters for food. All he has to do is lift his head, raise his giant body, paw the counter, and suck.
