I was so excited to read this after the first Richter book- Changing the Rules. It was everything that I was hoping for!

This story is about Olivia, a loner assassin who studied at Richter and who we met in the first book. She is protecting Marie, the victim of a human sex trafficking organization who is going to testify against the man responsible for the destruction of a lot of women's lives. While keeping an eye on things, Olivia runs into Leo Grant, an FBI agent. Olivia is shot while the two of them are having a short chat in the street, and Leo is immediately hooked on Olivia!

She has amnesia from the fall after being shot and can't remember anything about herself. Leo and Neil's team take Olivia to a remote location for safety and so she can recover. Relationships develop despite red flags and unknowns.

The story follows Olivia through her recovery and questions that come up after the shooting. I loves the mystery of whodunnit and how the characters took care of each other. I am a definite Catherine Bybee fan and haven't read a book of hers that I did not enjoy. They all have realistic and likeable characters, sweet and unexpected romances, and a good storyline. I can usually finish her books quickly because I become engrossed! This is a great sequel!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. I have read most of Bybee's work and love her writing style and plots. This is the second book in the series and I absolutely loved it! This one had great suspense, the romance you love and all of your favorite characters from previous books. You probably don't have to read the previous books to follow this one but it definitely gives you a good background to have read the first book in the series as it is somewhat of a continuation. It may also be helpful to have read "Say It Again" which is where Richter, the school the main leads come from, is incorporated.

This book follows Leo, who you meet in book one of the series and is an FBI agent, and Olivia, a former Richter student and assassin. Olivia has been spiraling out of control since she found out she was basically an assassin at the beck and call of her handler. She takes a job for McBain Security to help appease her soul and try to do some good. When she protects Leo from being shot down on a Vegas sidewalk, she gets amnesia and can't remember her past. Leo is intrigued by Olivia which is why he approached her in the first place. Now that she has been hurt protecting him, he refuses to leave her in the care of her team without him by her side. As they get to know each other without Olivia's past in the way, they form a romantic bond. But when Olivia's memory returns, things go sideways when she remembers who shot her and follows the trail. She tries to do it alone but the team refuses to let her.

There is a lot more to the story than that obviously but I don't want to leave any spoilers. There is a nice plot twist in there and lots of drama. I love the angle of the amnesia so that Olivia can open up without the burden of her past.

Overall definitely a recommend for me.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

This is the second book in a series and I had just finished the first book when I saw this one pop up on Netgalley so I was so excited when I was approved to review it!

It helps to have read the previous book and even back to the last book of the previous series, Say it Again, to get the context and know some of the characters but there is plenty of explanation if you have not so you could read this as a stand alone book but definitely so much history woven in if you love seeing previous characters continued in a series.

What a fun read with Olivia, an assassin, helping out Neil and the crew only to have injuries that lead to her having short term amnesia, and while she is recovering, she stays with Leo, an FBI agent, and you just have to chuckle at the possibility of that match - assassin and FBI - talk about water and oil!

Lots of drama, intrigue, and romance as they try to stay safe and figure out who was the shooter and which one of the two was the target - Leo or Olivia??

Sure hope that Jax will be in the next book and can't wait to see who she is matched with!

A Thin Disguise provides an adrenaline rush from beginning to end. It’s one of those books you don’t want to have to close unfinished. Book 2 in the series based on on characters Ms. Bybee’s fans encountered in her First Wives series focuses on MacBain Security , the group Neil developed and some of his employees who attended Richter, a boarding school in Germany with a rather dark secret in its past. A Thin Disguise extends threads developed in Book 1, Changing the Rules, and will make more sense if books are read in order. This reader loved the story about Olivia, another graduate from Richter, and Leo, an FBI agent. Both have been tasked with protecting a witness...one within the confines of the law; the other trained much differently. To say more would give the plot away. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.

Amazing! I didn’t want to like Olivia, but I just couldn’t help myself. Before starting this book, the knowledge I had of Olivia from previous books didn’t really leave me with the impression that she could fall in love and have a happy ever after. I thought the only way that could happen would be for her to be leading some sort of double fake life, but Bybees genius soon showed me I was wrong. Showing Olivia and her weakness was exactly what was needed in order to empathise with her. Leo was pure alpha genuine too. He never once tried to change her, even when her true self became clear, he saw her heart and embraced her fully for who she was and who she could be. Brilliant.

The suspense and plot twists were amazing, I found my jaw aching from clenching too much while trying to read faster to see what was going to happen and if Neil was going to save the day - again.
The world these characters are woven into it so great and complex, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

4 stars!

This is a standalone romance novel. I loved both the hero and the heroine. Olivia was definitely a strong character which I really appreciated. I'm tired of reading weak characters so she was like a breath of fresh air. She is an assassin who was working to keep Leo's star witness in a child trafficking ring safe. But she was shot when Leo was asking her phone number. Olivia wakes up at a hospital with no memory. This book features two of my favorite tropes amnesia and forced proximity. I loved the sexy dialogues and all the actions.

This new series started with two of my favourite CB characters to daye - Neil and Sasha.

I loved that they have brought about a new series for me to enjoy.

The Richter series are going to feel heavier than Ms Bybee's previous series, but that is to be expected with the subject matter of Changing The Rules.

Thus book gave this old duck memories of her days watching 21 Jump Street.

I did find that it took me a while to really get into the swing of this book, but once I was in it I couldn't wait to turn each page.

Adored Claire, but the character who i loooved is Jax, and I can't wait for her story.

This book does delve into the world of sex slavery, so at times it is not for the fa iknt hearted

I loved the premise of this novel, but at 25%, neither the story nor characters had engaged me, so I gave up. Thank you for the ARC.

This turned out to be quite the exciting read. I loved seeing these incredibly strong and resilient women from the Richter Academy find a new life, and still be able to use the skills they learned at the school. Add in an amnesia trope and I really couldn't put this book down.

This is a spinoff series from the First Wives Club but more from book 5 of that series. That was the book that gave us Sasha's full story that introduced us to the Richter Academy. The First Wives series is one of my favorite series by this author, but I gotta admit this new series is taking everything a step up. There is just something about a heroine who can kick some serious butt. I'm all about girl power.

Olivia was such a cool character. She is someone you don't underestimate. The fact that she was forced into an assassins life, and we are at the point of where people who know her and care for her, are trying to prove she can have a better life, was just fascinating. You could see her struggle with wanting this new life and balancing it with how to do it and keep everyone safe. It was very realistic. Well, as much as an assassins life is realistic.

I'm a big fan of the hero being an alpha personality. That can be hard to get when the heroine is someone that can make most men cry. While she was more skilled than Leo, he never came off as wimpy either. It was a good balance to find and not take away what she could do.

While you don't have to read the First Wives series, I would recommend at least reading Sasha's book, Say It Again. Only because this series means more with that in-depth look into what these heroines were put through at the academy. So far, this has been a fantastic spinoff series. I'm looking forward to more.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you.

A Thin Disguise by Catherine Bybee an empowering four-star read. This is number two in the Richter series and I would say its best to read them in order, I read and enjoyed the first but felt like I was missing something, when I read this one it added to the overall detail of the story and it helped me feel like I knew what was going on better. Olivia was such a strong character, she fought for herself and she knew what she was doing. Even when she doesn’t know anything, it doesn’t matter she was still her at heart. This is filled with drama, mystery it is filled with action packed scenes. There are difficult moments in this story, but my goodness they are few and far between, my issue was that there were scenes that just didn’t need to be there, and just made me drift a little as it felt overly long in those moments that’s why I gave it a four-star rating, it could have been five and I am sure many will find it to be five-stars all the way.

I am such a fan of Catherine Bybee. Every opportunity I get to read and her review her books I jump at the opportunity. I love this series and as it is a spin off series see we get to still see Neil and Gwen as well as Sasha. We briefly meet Olivia in Sasha's book and she is like a feral wolf. Thankfully Neil is turning into a softy in his old age and has kept her in the loop. I thought for sure we were going to get Jazz's story but I was pleasantly surprised to get Oilvia's story and with Leo Grant to boot.

In A Thin Disguise this is a continuing story from Changing the Rules (Richter #1) we still get more Claire and Cooper but now we get more of Leo's story and how he inter mingles with Olivia.

Olivia is an example of of what Sasha could have been but didn't go in that direction. Thankfully Leo was able to get into her heart and soften her. Catherine Bybee has the perfect formula of suspense and romance. I can't wait for more from this series and from Catherine Bybee

This was an excellent read, very entertaining and with interesting characters. The plot was complicated enough to keep me reading but not to wear me out trying to follow and remember. It was a nice balance of intelligent writing with an entertaining story. I will definitely be reading more books by Ms Bybee.

Olivia is working a case and she is very very good at what she does. She works alone she likes it better that way. The past might have some to do with that but she has accepted a long time ago it is better this way. Until she meets ummm well she can’t remember what happened or who she is. She got shot and now has no idea what is going on or who anyone is. However there is a group who does know who she is and has tried everything to bring her on the team which is more like family. They do everything in their power to protect her while she has no idea who she is and try to show her also that she does have family and people her Care. The guy who was with her when she got shot FBI agent Leo Grant has no clue who she is but can’t stay away and asks to be with them protecting her during her recovery. But can their attraction be enough? Can the team convince her to lean on them? Will she ever remember who she is? And who shot her? This was so so good and I couldn’t put it down. Nobody wants to be alone and so I was hoping the team would get through to Olivia!!! I definitely recommend this book. Book given to me by author on netgalley!

Ms. Bybee has mastered her craft of writing in another magnificent book. The second book in the Richter series. It will stand alone. I recommend reading book one, it is good.

I love strong female leads; I am sure that is what attracted me to this series and keeps me reading. Olivia is intelligent and good at what she does, protection. She is not part of Neil’s security teams; she is on the outer fringes. Olivia is a former assassin, trying to balance her meter to the good. Today’s good deed is jumping in front of a bullet that is heading for Leo. She wakes up in pain, without her memories.

Leo is FBI, is also in Las Vegas. His assignment is to prevent an assassination. Their paths cross, and he finds Olivia attractive but does not know who she is.

Will Olivia’s memories return? Was the bullet intended for Leo or Olivia?

I love this series, the intrigue, suspense, action, and romance are in perfect alignment. I highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This review will go to Goodreads about June 6, 2021, and Amazon on Release Day, July 6, 2021.

This latest entry in the Richter series proves that opposites really do attract. In one of the most unlikely pairings, we have a former assassin/spy and an FBI agent falling in love as they try to figure out who is responsible for a shooting that injured the heroine. While this seems farfetched, only Catherine Bybee could pull this off without the book seeming ridiculous. Instead the story has everything you need romance, suspense, and extremely likeable characters that you want to see more of in future books. Overall, a book you'll have a tough time putting down.

An assassin and an FBI agent. Two should never meet and be attracted to each other, yet when they do their story sizzles. Olivia knows she can’t move ahead with Leo, but Leo can’t help but try and follow her, knowing he could lose his job and maybe his life. With the help of Neil’s team, they close in on not only Olivia, the man who shot her.
Catherine Bybee has told Olivia and Leo’s story in the dramatic, suspenseful and romantic way we have come to expect from her. This is the second in the Richter series and happy there will be more to come.

This is the first book from Catherine Bybee that I am reading. Those who love mystery and romance is going to love this book.. FBI agent Leo Grant and ex-assassin Olivia meets over a fateful incident in Vegas. Olivia's temporary loss of memory allows Leo and Olivia to get to know each other and to start build a new relationship. The return of her memory takes her off on a search to find her assassin and to get answers to some questions. The book is about the how Leo and Olivia achieves this with the help of their friends.

A very good read, meant to keep you hooked to the book till the end.

I read the first book in this series and enjoyed. Here, Bybee continues with her strong, interesting women, great dialogues, and a great blend of action and romance.

I’m really enjoying this series, which is a nice mix of action, suspense and romance. The second in the series, It is a standalone story, although there are recurring characters. Leo is a federal agent and Olivia is working on a case. She saves him from getting shot but ends up getting shot herself and losing her memory. They are working against time to find out who and why someone was shooting at them. Olivia was tough and a little broken but I really liked her character and growth through the book. Leo was a great character- not too alpha but just enough to provide a great foil for Olivia. The rest of the crew were a strong supporting cast that provided the reader additional characters to root for. Overall, an interesting and enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy.
