This is a brilliant graphic novel centred around a couple experiencing fertility problems, who opt to undergo IVF treatment.

It captures the raw physical and mental toll that IVF takes on a couple, with all the highs, lows and everything in between.

I felt this graphic novel was the perfect balance of informative and personal, and it is a topic you don’t see spoken about often so that was fantastic!!

The story of the authors’ attempts to get pregnant using IVF. A very introspective look at a subject most don’t know much about. You are really routing for the couple and I like how the writers kept the tension going. One really feels that they went through this and the ending made me really happy for them. The art was fine.

I have no personal experience with IVF, but I hope that this story is comforting for those who have gone through it. And hopefully stories like this will push people to be a bit more empathetic when talking to others and stop that dreaded, 'why haven't you had kids yet?' question. This novel did a good job portraying a somber topic, and showing not only the emotional and physical side of fertility issues, but the financial struggle that can come along with IVF as well. Very well done all around.

Couple psychotherapy is useful for those who want to improve their relationship and is a support in decisions regarding the future of the couple. The subject debated in this graphic novel is one very frequent for the nowadays couples where 1 in 6 couples confronts at a certain point in their life history with the notion of IVF.
In vitro fertilization has a reasonable success rate in most cases. In general, approximately 30% of IVF cycles will end with the birth of one or more babies, and the cumulative chances of success are higher when multiple IVF cycles are performed. However, the individual's chance of success depends on several factors, including a woman's age, cause of infertility, and treatment approach.
The emotional state during infertility treatment can vary greatly, which can be difficult for the couple to manage. Stress and anxiety are fueled by several factors, such as whether the partners have been trying to conceive for a long time, the costs of treatment or whether there are basic problems in the couple's life. The emotional state is greatly amplified after a first failed attempt at in vitro fertilization treatment. All these issues are pointed out in this graphic novel and therefore it is so touching.
I am giving it only 4 stars because on certain pages it was difficult for me to follow the conversation due to the graphics and text.

In Two-Week Wait husband and wife authors Luke and Kelly Jackson chronicle in graphic novel format an IVF story based on their own fertility journey which is nothing short of a rollercoaster ride of emotions, twists and turns.

Conrad and Joanne meet in their final year of University and are inseparable. They have a grand time in their beginning years of marriage and decide they want to raise a family. So far, their attempts have not been productive and after several inconclusive tests and meeting after meeting with medical professionals they’ve decided to try IVF.

Two-Week Wait does a good job of navigating the precious moments that occur when fertility issues arise as well as captures the lows and highs of such a sensitive topic. And, I think it taps into the strides the medical industry has made and the work that continues to be done where modern medicine is concerned.

Excuse me while I wipe away my tears. Infertility and pregnancy loss are so rarely talked about and to see a graphic novel come out that not only talked about I.V.F, but also delved into the emotions and feeling of pressure felt by both partners. It was truly heart breaking and inspiring to see the thought that went into every panel. I have been fortunate and getting pregnant with my children was easy, but I did have a miscarriage during my third pregnancy. For years I never discussed it with others because I part of me thought I was lucky to have the 2 kids I had and it would be greedy to talk about the one I lost. I also didn't talk about it because it just wasn't something people were open about over 10 years ago. I think that it has become more acceptable to talk about fertility struggles and pregnancy loss during the past few years. I appreciate how the authors not only focused on the heart break but also on the financial struggles that go along with it. They also talked about the anger, frustration, and jealousy that can happen during the course of the procedure. This graphic novel is long overdue.

The Two-Week Wait is a compassionately written and well drawn graphic story about one couple's experiences with IVF. Due out 4th May 2021 from Scribe Publications, it's 160 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This is a touching story written honestly and simply. The emotional toll, stress, expense, and roller-coaster of assisted reproduction (IVF in this case) are represented concisely and with empathy. I can't imagine how difficult it must've been to write this book and collaborate with the artist through the publication process.

The art itself is simple and expressive and supports the story well. The coloring is quite subtle (see cover)e and the text is unobtrusive with good contrast and easy to follow layout.

Four stars. The subject matter might potentially be difficult for readers who are experiencing infertility or pregnancy loss.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

We start off with Joanne and Conrad, trying to conceive and start their own family. Right away we learn that they were university sweethearts who have been trying to get pregnant for around a year. Joanne is worried about her age having an effect and starts to question why they waited so long to have a child. They start to look at other options and after a bit of research, the couple decide on starting IVF treatment. This graphic novel takes us through the entire process of IVF treatment and gives us a real look into the lives of these two people. This story had me immersed from start to finish, routing for them the entire time. There were moments where I was worried, scared, broken-hearted, and overjoyed. While the art style my not be my favorite, I absolutely loved the story, the characters and would recommend this for everyone who needs a sad story that ends with a happy ending.

I read this in one sitting. I was absolutely transfixed by the way it was drawn, with a very limited colour palette, and expressive faces. I was able to empathise fully with the couple, despite having never gone through IVF, a pregnancy or miscarriage. Some pages almost brought me to tears. It's a "simple" storyline, yet a very important one. I highly recommend it.

This was such an emotional read for me.

Two-Week Wait is a graphic novel about a married couple in their mid-thirties and their struggle to conceive. Conrad and Joanne are confronted with the fact that it is not going to be easy for them to get pregnant. Especially when their friends around them are either with children or pregnant already.

The IVF journey is heartbreaking. When you get tested and do all that you have to do to make sure you conceive and then you don’t get pregnant… Makes you hit the reality hard that we cannot really control everything. The couple go through a difficult and an expensive journey where each ‘successful’ implantation is followed by a two-week wait to see if the pregnancy takes. The hope and disappointment is visible throughout the story.

The illustrations of the emotions were portrayed perfectly. I cried few times when reading this novel. Maybe perhaps I am thirty years old and married for two years? Who knows.

Always be kind to newly weds and never ever ask them when are they ever having a baby… They might be struggling to do so without you knowing.

Thank you Scribe and NetGalley for this copy.

This graphic novel discusses one couple’s emotional journey with IVF and the struggles that come with it. Infertility and issues with pregnancy are often made to seem taboo in our culture, but this book sheds light on the important topic in a very easy-to-access way.

Joanne and Conrad are a happily married couple and decide to grow their family. After issues conceiving and making the decision to try IVF, they find out that they are the 1 out of every 50 couples to do so. The story is beautifully told and beautifully illustrated. Loving the characters comes easily as they are both so real and nuanced.

I highly recommend this book to all men and women because destigmatizing fertility issues, pregnancy, the emotional ups and downs of relationships, and IVF needs to happen; it takes all of us to make this change.

This was so emotional and so lovely. You could definitely tell the authors had real experience and insight into the struggle to get pregnant and it didn’t shy away from the toll it can take on a marriage. I didn’t struggle with this personally, but I can see it being very validating to someone who had.

I thought that this book was a thoughtful and well done book about the journey of a couple and the ups and downs of going through IVF treatment. There were a few transitions that were a bit choppy for me but I loved the art and the story of it all.

As someone who suffers from infertility, this book really hit home for me. The loving couple has been trying to conceive and find out they are unable to do so, which needless to say has its impacts on the marriage. They decide to undergo fertility procedures in order to experience the miracle of creating life.

What it showed me was that not only is this circumstance very difficult for the woman, it can also really hurt the man as well while he tries to remain strong and put on a brave face to show the world.

The emotional, marital, and financial struggles of IVF are well-documented here, and the art is in a fairly simple style that lends itself to quickly and smoothly reading through the entire story.

I was super excited to read this. I loved this and finished it in like an hour of starting it. The story is about a couple who has trouble getting pregnant and their journey through IVF. The woman in the story finds out she has endometriosis, which is something I also have so I liked seeing that in the book too. I gave it a 4 out of 5, I really enjoyed the story and the art style.

This was a great memoir. Beautifully illustrated and told. I really enjoyed the colour scheme and the softness and joy with which the children drawn throughout the book were illustrated with. I was frustrated at many moments because society is really crap in its discussions of fertility and infertility. People are really awful even when they are trying to be nice. It’s portrayed well in this book; as is the strain on a relationship as a result of the IVF rounds, waiting and disappointment. In my view books like this are so helpful as an opening into a topic we don’t really talk about. There’s too much pressure on people to be quiet and keep everything secret and books like this show you that so many people are going through the same thing.

I’ve never read a graphic novel as an e-book but the formatting of this was great and colours were really vibrant. I would always recommend a hard copy but I got a lot out of this book digitally too. I would definitely recommend this read.

This book is a very real and honest portrayal of the journey to become pregnant by IVF. I now know more than I did about the process as well so it was educational too. There was great detail in the emotional background both people involved could feel during the process. It was an enjoyable book and I learned from it.
