I enjoyed this! Humorous short poems that switch between serious and funny. A super quick read perfect for national poetry month! The "Sponsored" poems were particularly funny.
If the author can make thin mints tax deductible-- he has my vote.

True rating - 3.5 stars
Is this collection of poems the greatest ever written? No. But is it amusing? Yes, absolutely.
A very quick read, "Look Mom I'm a Poet (and So Is My Cat) is a dry, amusing read that pulled me out of a reading slump brought on by a lot of heavy sci-fi and fantasy. I think you probably need to enjoy dry humor to like this, and some poems worked better than others.
If you want a quick, amusing read that's enjoyable without leaving too-lasting an impression, or if you're trying to get into reading poetry, this is a good option.

I may be misquoting a bit, but my favorite was,
"She danced naked in the rain / without a care in the world / then a week later / she caught a cold and died"
Haha.
This book will also forever hold a place in my heart for introducing to my new favorite joke:
What kind of gas do zombies have?
Brainfarts.
Hahaha.
Not as good as I was expecting. But amusing nonetheless. And you can LITERALLY read it in about 10 minutes.

Look Mom I’m a Poet by Andrew Shaffer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Let's face it: this is simply light humor wrapped up in poetry that appeals to a certain kind of observer of human nature:
In other words: you've gotta like it dry.
Jack Handy dry. A touch of the absurd, a touch of the profound, and a whole wallop of the goofy.
But then, I like a good dry witticism. Or several dozen. And this one easily brought a smile onto my face for the 45 minutes it took me to read it.
Worth it. Totally worth it.

I requested this on a whim (it's not my usual reading choice). And I did enjoy some of the pieces, but I feel like you can only take so much comedy poetry in one sitting. More fun to pick it up here and there, read a piece for a giggle and then put it down until the next time you're sitting on the toilet or whatever.

A short book of dark, funny poems, just what the doc (or maybe the cat) prescribed for the times.
My biggest grouse with this book is that there could have been more poems here. Some of them were LOL funny and I read out my favourite to a few friends...who also LOL-ed. Some of them were dark, some of them were wtf, which I feel was an effect the poet was trying to achieve so no foul. Definitely, his next book should have more.
Also, that's definitely not a cat.

This was HILARIOUS. I'm not a 'laugh out loud' kind of person, but Andrew Shaffer had me giggling at work while trying to pretend I was actually working. The front of the book has a section called "Nice Things People Are Saying About Andrew Shaffer" had me dyingggggg.
My favorite? "You're not funny and if I ever met you I would punch you in the face." - Amazon Customer
My favorite poem was Beautiful You. Andrew Shaffer clearly shows that he could write the kind of poetry we see on instagram and twitter, that he has a prose that can be gorgeous, but he always turns it on the last few lines and it KILLS me.
This was so so funny. Loved it..

Okay, so I’m kind of on the fence on this one:
What I liked: Andrew Shaffer showcases and reminisces on what those know-it-alls from modernism try to say: it does not have to rhyme. His poems feel fun – like a collection of funny random thoughts that stick in your head for a reason. Sometimes reading the author’s work feels like finding an old diary from a funny kid – in the best way. Poems like “The Only Way to Stop a Bad Guy With A Gun Is A Good Guy With A Gun” and “In These Challenging Times” were something special – it is when the author manages to find and show his voice in a way that makes me super interested in what he is doing next.
As for the rest (because this is a review): there was not a thing here that I specifically did not like, but parts of this felt… neutral…? Some poems were harder for me to connect with and I just went through the motions of reading them… It does not at all mean the writing was necessarily bad (it was really good and follows a disintegrated style that I loved)… but I don’t know how else to explain… sometimes I felt that the mind of the author seemed farther away from the subject.
Overall: a promising introduction (for me) to the existence of Andrew Shaffer!
I received an advanced copy of this book via Netgalley, and leave this review because I want to, many thanks for all of those involved in granting me this copy! It was a great experience 😊.

These poems had me screaming from laughter and crying al at the same time.
If you're looking for a collection that will make you laugh and cry, this is for you. And the pictures are super good and add a unique element to this book.

Rating: 3.5/5
The cover/title combo just really appealed to me so I had to immediately read it!
This is a comedic poetry collection that's humor definitely won't work for everyone but I really enjoyed it?? I will say that my rating dropped because a lot of this collection hinges on pop-culture references and I'm not gonna lie, I didn't get all of them and it made reading this kinda like a rollercoaster: one poem I found funny and the next I was confused. Would still recommend it if you are looking for a comedic poetry collection!

This group of poems is for a specific humor, and that humor is for our SNL fans. It’s a short collection and while most made me laugh, others didn’t, but what comedic sketch hits every joke?
Either way, if you need a laugh or something mindless after a few hard hitting books, this is something to consider. It’s under 100 pages and I read the entire collection in maybe 20 minutes.
Big thank you to Net Galley and Dime House for this ARC!

I had already read another book by this author, "Fifty Shames of Earl Gray", it is a book with good moments of comedy while others may go unnoticed (it may be due to the fact that I am not an American to get so many references) so I already knew the author’s type of humor, he can be really funny at times while at others he may seem forced.
It is a good humor book to pass the time but it is not the type of book that I recommend buying physically, because once you read it it loses its charm, you know?
note: those photographs were really random lol

This was just not good. I loved the Obama Biden mysteries, so I was expecting great things. No. This was just bad. Just really bad. Two stars for being mercifully short.

Andrew Shaffer uses poetic form to convey humor and insight. Consistently witty and funny verse throughout.

3 stars - I liked it
So I want to start by saying I am not a fan of the modern poetry style, but the title and cover of this book caught my attention and after reading the blurb I decided to give it a try. I actually found this a pretty humorous and fun collection of poetry. I still don’t like the style of this kind of poetry but I could overlook it enough with this fun collection.
This was my first Shaffer book and I really enjoyed his blunt humidor about life. It was relatable and easy to understand his references. I will most likely read more of his stuff in the future. I liked the poems The Woods, The Power of Belief, and Carpe DM a lot. They made me laugh at how accurate they could be.
Overall, this was a fun collection of poetry and a very quick read. If you are looking for a laugh and like poetry, check this book out.

Firstly Thanks to Eighth Circle and Netgalley for granting the wish and letting me read this and bear in mind that I applied for this on a whim as I really need to read more poetry of any sort. Unfortunately,I can't honestly say that I enjoyed this at all. Many of the poems were little more than 1 line jokes and most of those didn't hit the spot as far as I was concerned.although in the interest of fairness, 3 others have read this and really enjoyed it but for me personally this didn't work as either a collection of poetry or as a collection of funny jokes- Maybe if I had hd a clue who Andrew Shaffer was before this it would have helped, but at the end of the day, a joke is eitehr funny to you or not, and these largely weren't

"I read the poems you wrote for me, she said, taking my hands in hers. Have you thought about seeing a therapist?"
It's official this is my favourite book of poems. This was so much fun to read. I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the Arc for an honest review. I'll definitely be buying this.

Well, I'm definitely not the right audience for this book. There were some poems that really hit close to home, but most of the time, I was just bored and/or confused.
I really don't know how to give an objective rating, so I will just go with my gut.

I give this a 4 out of 5, I would say that while the poems are funny and insightful they are also quite short. Which some I love for the short quips others I wish were longer.
For example "SHUT UP HIPPIE" was hilarious and made me do that funny pushing air through my nostrils thing.
This is a poem book for people who don't normally read poems or dislike the classics.
The best poem was "TWO-HUNDRED MILLION REASONS NOT TO TELL PEOPLE YOU'RE A WRITER"
I liked the observations he and his cat make.
If you happen to see it in the shop, I recommend pulling it off the shelf and flicking to a random poem, it will make you think and probably laugh. It will make you want it.

Requested because of the cover, stuck around for the inevitable laughing snorts.
Thanks again to NetGalley for a eARC of this book in return for an honest review!
