Very well-structured domestic thriller that hits all the notes that a fan of the genre expects. I had predicted the "who" but not the "why." I had a few small quibbles with the killer's MO but nothing that kept me from enjoying it. Another winner from this author.

Oh dear. Did not enjoy this one AT ALL. Fully 75% of the book is occupied with the minutiae of what Alice, the main character eats, and wears, who she visits, pleasantries about the weather ... And when it isn't that, it's endless, obsessive inner monologue during which Alice muses, "Maybe ...' or 'I wonder if ...' or 'Am I imagining ...' Not only was it tedious, it seems to indicate the writer's limited skill in creating circumstances that organically make the reader think, 'Maybe ...' or 'I wonder if ...' or 'Am I imagining ...' THAT'S the charge of the writer-- to make the READER'S imagination wander and search through the options to solve the mystery, not to hand them up through the main protagonist's thoughts. Through Alice's thoughts, we are *told* everything and the telling was pure tedium. Honestly, I think this is it for me and this author.

Well looks like she did it again in her very own way so kudos for that!. This book is as great as her last books which are quite nice but a bit too wordy for me. The characters are rounded out very well and one can get a good sense of them. All the characters come across as so precious and entitled

What I did love about this book was the twist. I never saw that coming and it is superb! Truly that twist made it worth reading and put it into the league of Ms Paris' previous books. A well rounded outstanding!

Firstly, I was excited to read this book because I LOVE B.A. Paris. This book did not dissapoint. I was constantly guessing what would happen next until the end of the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a really easy and addicting book. This book was very hard to set down. I read it within a few days.

I’ve read a few books by this author and she hasn’t disappointed yet!

I enjoyed this #thriller with all of its twists and it was fun to see where the book was going!

I definitely think that #psychologicalthrillers are at the top of my top five favorite #ThrillerSubGenres and this is one you need in your life!

I wouldn’t know what to do if you couldn’t trust anyone around you or if the person you trust turns out to be an awful human being. Like what do you do with that information? I’d run and not look back 😂

This is another engrossing read from B.A. Paris. Alice moves into a gated community with her partner Leo and becomes obsessed with the murder and suicide of a couple that lived in that same community. The author does a very good job of making the reader suspect everyone right along with Alice. There are many twists that keep you engaged and guessing until the final reveal. I would have liked a little more of Alice’s backstory so we could have understood her and her obsessions a bit better. All in all another very good read from B.A. Paris! It’s always a pleasure to see what this author comes up with next!

I can’t believe someone could be such a perfect imposter as he was. The control he has over people was surprising. Very good story.

Alice and Leo buy a home in an upscale gated community in London. There are only 12 homes in community and Alice tries to become friends with the neighbors, who all appear to be friends with each other. They aren't so nice to Alice when she tries to befriend them. Alice finds out that the former owner of her house Nina died in the house. Alice sets out to discover the truth of what happened and why there are so many secrets about her.

A little bit of flat characters for me, but the story had enough twists and turns to keep me turning the pages. I think fans of BA Paris will enjoy this one, but perhaps not as much as their others. Still a good read!

Let me just preface this review by saying that I really WANTED to like this book. I'm always a fan of stories where people/things aren't all they seem to be...but this book fell extremely flat for me. I spent the majority of it being bored out of my mind. By the time the ending came, I didn't even really care about the plot anymore. I just wanted it to end. It wasn't especially shocking or interesting for me. It was just bland.

I have seen a lot of rave reviews for this book, so maybe don't take my advice as your only source of information prior to reading this book. I have liked several other books by this author, but this one just fell so flat.

WOW! The Therapist is an INCREDIBLE thriller that is non stop action.
The twists kept coming. The plot was perfectly paced, I could not put this book down.
The characters were well fleshed out, flawed and complicated.
The end blew me away.

True to B.A. Paris form I was definitely hooked from the beginning and couldn’t wait to read to the end to conclude the mystery. Lots of plausible suspects made for a satisfying ending.

I did find the writing style a bit simplistic in this one, but benefit of the doubt since this was an unedited advanced proof. Fans of B.A. Paris should look forward to this one and pick it up!

When Alice and Leo finally decide to move in together, they choose a home in the exclusive gated community known as The Circle. But Alice quickly starts feeling bad vibes in the house, which are quickly confirmed when she learns that the previous resident was murdered in the house, presumably by her husband, who then committed suicide. Alice quickly becomes obsessed with finding out all about the other woman, feeling that maybe justice hasn't really been served.

The central mystery is really thrilling and I found myself suspecting many of the characters at various times. B.A. Paris really is a master of suspense and creating a good story. The other couples in The Circle all have various motives and various backstories that make them each creepy and suspicious in their own way.

The ending was a pretty good twist and I quite enjoyed it as the last piece fell into place. I can't really say that I saw it coming at all! And it was quit creepy, to be honest, once we got the entire picture.

My only issue with the books that I wasn't a huge fan of Alice herself. She was a bit over-the-top for me. She was paranoid, pushed everyone away, and was a tad unreasonable at times. I don't know, she just rubbed me the wrong way at times.

Overall, this was a very solid thriller, and I really enjoyed it. It's another winner from an excellent author!

I received this book from NetGalley as an eARC in exchange for a review.

The Therapist follows Alice as she moves in to a new community, only to learn that a murder had taken place there a year and a half prior. Alice tries to get to the truth of what really happened.

This book was a pretty standard domestic thriller. I had a hard time really getting invested in the characters, but I did think the twistiness was pretty good. I suspected the outcome pretty early but there were enough red herrings to make me second guess myself. I definitely recommend this to people you love domestic thrillers.

While this author is popular with library patrons, this was not the author's best book. Overwraught and drawn out, the characters weren't sympathetic and the "twist" was absurd and seemed rushed to tie up the story at the end. Not much redeemable about this book, and I'd recommend reading some of her other titles instead.

Brilliant. I really enjoyed this book. It had a nice steady pace and a good storyline. The plot kept me guessing until the end ...... I knew when Alice knew .... really good!!

The suspense is hiding behind every corner of this story! There are twists and turns and highs and lows, trust no one! Absolutely a story for daytime reading, not at night where all the noise is magnified and have you wondering if some one is hiding and watching...

I was such a huge fan of The Dilemna by B.A. Paris that I was thrilled when I came across The Therapist, but this has been sitting on my TBR shelf for quite a while and I struggled to get into it. Finally, I committed to the cause and dove into this one yesterday and found myself addicted fairly quickly. I'm not sure why I initially struggled getting invested in this one, but once I did, it proved to be an entertaining psychological thriller.

Alice is leaving her beloved cottage behind to move to London with her boyfriend, Leo. They have been seeing each other for quite a while, but up until this point, it was just on weekends due to his career. Leo chooses a house, sends her photos, signs on the dotted line, and the rest is history. Alice arrives to their new home in "The Circle" as they call it but immediately feels uneasy. She feels like neighbors are talking about her and not being welcoming. She struggles with the size of the new house and being alone all the time while Leo travels. And based on her behavior watching out windows and ambushing her neighbors - she is desperate for a friend. Anyway, against Leo's wishes, she posts an invite for drinks at their home one evening to get to know each other better. Everything goes perfectly fine until a few days later she realizes that one of the guests at the party was not a neighbor.

That's really all I can tell you about the plot without ruining everything. But let me tell you about Alice. Strong female personalities will most likely find her annoying as hell. It was cringeworthy watching her desperately try to be included or get invited to various activities that her neighbors Eve, Tamsin, and Maria typically did together. I think it's ok to just have a curbside chit-chat with your neighbors at first rather than being penciled into every one of their routines, but Alice acted more like a little girl new to the playground than a grown woman just moving into a neighborhood.

Then there is Leo... Leo seemed a little odd and almost bossy at first, but then he changes into someone else entirely and continues to change throughout the novel. I was suspicious of him after only the first few chapters and remained suspicious of him throughout the novel. The author did a wonderful job developing and casting a light on his unreliability to where I was just waiting for him to screw up or reveal something creepy.

I found almost all of the neighbors at The Circle to be suspicious, gossipy, and dishonest. The only person that seemed somewhat normal was Thomas but at the end of the novel, there had been so many twists and turns I could hardly keep up with how I felt about anyone. However, when the big, final twist occurred, I was floored. I bet my mouth was hanging wide open from the big reveal to the end because nothing I had predicted had come to light. What's better than a thriller that completely catches you off guard and discounts all of your own theories that had been building?

The Therapist is an excellent read as far as the shocking surprises along the way. This wasn't a 5-star read for me simply because I had so many issues with Alice, but this is a great read that I recommend.

The Therapist by B.A. Paris is a British mystery. Alice leaves her country home to move in with her lover, Leo. Their new home in London, The Circle, is a gated community, consisting of a small group of houses with close-knit residents. Most of them appear to know everyone’s business, creating a stifling atmosphere, especially for Alice. Halfway into this story, the plot starts to sag. Alice, the protagonist, is all over the place, making unrealistic decisions, while trying to investigate a crime that occurred at her house before Leo and Alice moved in. The other residents of The Circle are a mishmash of unsympathetic and uninteresting characters who confuse the reader with too many clues. The Therapist had the potential of being a great mystery but it got bogged down in the details. I did finish reading this book, in the hope that the plot would improve. B.A. Paris is praised for the quality of her fiction and I will read some of her other work, to be fair. This review is my own opinion and I am sure that most would probably enjoy The Therapist. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 Stars

I LOVE B.A. Paris, Behind Closed Doors is still one of my hands down favorite thriller/mystery books that I recommend to everyone. I was delighted to read this latest novel and see how this would slot in with the others of their works.

While I did enjoy this mystery and it kept me guessing, it was not my most favorite of theirs. I think it's because the plot felt a bit slow and rambling and I often wished it'd just get on with it. I also abhor mean girls and this neighborhood had a few of them!

Still it was overall an engaging read that despite somewhat figuring things out early still kept me engaged once things started rolling.
