A good starting biography and look at some of his works. Nice overall, some good primary text and images of the paintings.

This is a very well written biography of Peter Paul Rubens, describing his rise from poverty to the genius artist he eventually became, enjoying royal patronage and the admiration of noble families of the time. A very enjoyable read from beginning to end.

Competent and comprehensive cradle-to-grave biography of Rubens, well-written and well-researched. I enjoyed it and learnt a lot.

For me, as a Frenchman, Rubens will always be associated to the magnificent portraits of the junoesque figure of the rather insipid and frivolous Queen Regent Marie of Medicis permanently housed at the Louvre & at the Palais du Luxembourg, magnificent witnesses to the genius of the greatest artist of the Flemish Baroque Period.
The late American writer Noel Gerson (who wrote also under various pseudonyms) was a very prolific & talented author of popular biographies in the 60s and 70s and it's rather wonderful that Sapere Books is bringing back to life today one of his most wonderful work. Rubens, the artist of the counter reformation, Rubens, the inveterate diplomat and political intriguer, forever associated artistically with all the royal courts of Western Europe, from the Madrid of Philip IV to the London of Charles I, gets a larger than life portrait in Gerson luminous and well written popular biography, accessible to all. This book is definitely the perfect introduction to the very colorful life of one of the greatest artist of the 17th century.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Sapere Books for the opportunity to (re)read this wonderful biography prior to its release date

Absolutely good read if your like biographies.

The talent of the Master painter Rubens is poignant and descriptive. You get to read the man, the father, and the painter. I remember seeing the Painting at Whitehall Palace and it’s so remarkable to read the journey of this artist.
I enjoyed reading the book of this master creator.

The book describes some of his famous paintings and I now have the urge to make another trip to see these work of art.
