Complications by Danielle Steel is a juicy drama mixed with scandal and romance. This novel is a bit different than Steel’s previous novels, I enjoyed the historical story mixed with the modern day elements. I felt as if it were based on a TV series that I would absolutely binge watch. Steel has a known talent of writing about the jet setting rich and famous, but with characters that are down to earth or that are relatable enough that the reader is intrigued, interested, and connected. She accomplished this yet again with these characters. Reading about the Louis XVI hotel was so interesting, and I could envision the grandiose architecture and design in my mind easily, as well as the people working there or staying there. Typical of this author’s novels, romance is strong and prevalent, as well as a myriad of emotions for the characters AND the reader. Beautifully and expertly written, be ready to be swept away by this exquisite novel.

I have read and enjoyed many books by Danielle Steel. Unfortunately I found myself dissatisfied with this one. Another book set in Paris. Wealthy people that can fly internationally every couple of weeks.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review.

You can always count on Danielle Steel to give you an escape from everyday for a few hours, and this was no exception. The first little but there were a lot of details about the history of the hotel and the introduction of the characters, but once the story got rolling, it was all you expect from a woman’s contemporary romance.
This is the story of Gabrielle who is an art dealer; Alastair a London doctor who is fighting cancer, and an American couple who are celebrating their new lives in Paris, and a politician who is looking for an escape. They all converge at the newly renovated Hotel Louis XVI. When One of the characters suffers a heart attack in the hotel they try to keep him alive until help can get there, and then the various characters meet and their stories intertwine. They all bring complications to the hotel with them and in getting involved in each other’s lives, new complications ensue, both positively and negatively.
This was an easy way to spend a rainy afternoon. I’ve been reading Danielle Steel since I used to sneak them from my mother when I was a teenager, and this is just what I’d expect from her. No steam, just lots of depth and character development.
Thanks to Delacorte Press and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.

This is an author I never hesitate to pick up. Her books are well written and her use of details gave the story a realsitic feel. This book is no different. I loved being pulled into the story by the characters. They are relateable and kept the story engaging. I enjoyed how they made the story fun and easy to read. They brought the story to life on each page. They are written with a lot of heart and are just great characters. This is a story of tragady and scandals. I enjoyed how the story took place in Paris hotel and the background was great. There are a couple of twists and turns that I didnt see coming but it certainly made me want more. This is truly a great story that I loved. I highly recommend this book and this author.

A chain reaction of crazy happenings all occur in a hotel in a short period of time. If you are a Danielle Steel lover, then you will definitely love this one! Equal parts thrilling and predictable (if you have read a lot of this genre of book). Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Complications is a captivating and entertaining novel. Who knows her reader better than Danielle Steel? Steel's novel provides a super luxurious setting and a variety of interesting character. The elegant Louis XVI hotel in Paris is under new management following a two year renovation. Loyal customers return and wonderful new visitors as well. Unfortunately a variety of tragedies quickly plague the hotel. A critically ill guest brings together super wealthy American art consultant Gabrielle and English physician Alistair. The characters and their stories are all interesting. Steel once again succeeds in transporting her reader to a dazzling lifestyle.

This book centers on the Hotel Louis XVI. The hotel has been closed to four years for renovations and there are a few changes in staff at the reopening. This luxury hotel has catered to many regular select guests over the years, many who are anxious to return. The guests include an older woman whose husband has left her for someone younger, a couple very much in love, a politician with a secret that hopes to become the French president and a British doctor who has been diagnosed with a life ending disease. Besides the usual snafus that can happen with new systems, there is a murder, health emergency and several other things that make the reopening anything but smooth. I really enjoyed following the stories for multiple guests and thought it made a fascinating read.

3.5 Hearts This story is perfectly titled. Why? Because well this story was a bit complicated to read for me. I have been a fan of Danielle Steel’s since I first read Jewels and then I moved back and read most if not all that I found of hers in garage sales and used book stores.

This story was her normal writing and yet not as familiar as her stories usually are. There were so many other stories going on that it was hard to keep up with the main characters. But that being said, the writing kept me interested and wanting to turn the page. But there were a number of times I actually had to go back and figure out who someone was.

The thing is I did give this a lower rating than I usually do for Danielle Steel but I am comparing this to her many many books (over 40) and we all know from any favorite author we have favorite reads and ones that do not fall into that category.

Parts of this book were typical Danielle Steel that I have come to love and expect. Parts of this book were unnecessary and detracted from the overall quality of the book. Overall, this book provided the escape from life that I am used to getting with a Danielle Steel book. It was a fast and easy read.

I have always enjoyed Danielle Steel, & this book doesn't disappoint. It has interesting characters with complicated lives (hence the title). Having all of the characters have a connection through the Louis XVI hotel was creative & helped the story be unique from some of her other work. I recommend reading this book if you're a fan of Danielle Steel!

Complications by Danielle Steel tells a story full of scandal and tragedy that erupts against the backdrop of an exclusive Paris hotel. The story is a slow burn that takes a little time to get into because Steel takes her time setting up the scenes and the characters before the action gets started. Once the story takes off, it is a well-written, fast-paced mystery that flows at a smooth, steady pace.

I have read a handful of Danielle Steel books over the years and was excited to get the ARC of this one to review it. While it was fine, it was definitely not my favorite of the ones I've read. Granted, the ones I had previously read were published years ago, this is the first I've read of her newer publications. The stories are okay - a few intertwined about guests staying at a luxurious hotel in Paris. I did like the theme of second chances that I noticed weaved into the lives of multiple characters in the book. Over all, it was a nice quick read. Nothing earth shattering but an escape from reality into a world I know nothing about - a hotel in paris for the rich and famous.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Danielle Steel books are like a cup of coffee. Warm, cozy, and you don’t want them to end!

Centering around a luxury hotel in Paris, Complications covers the lives of various guests all staying as the first tenants after renovations. Murder, love, sickness, and death plague the hotel in its reopening, but as with all of Steel’s books, this one is tied up perfectly in the end. I can’t wait for the next one!

I am seldom disappointed in a Danielle Steel book, but Complications was a big disappointment. There were detailed descriptions (ad nauseum) of Paris, the characters and even the fictional hotel. This book felt disjointed as it skipped among the three sets of characters. I resorted to skimming over the detailed narrative in search of anything positive. Upon reaching the end of this novel, all I felt was dissatisfaction. I never felt a connection with this story on any level.
I rate this boring book 1 1/2 stars.

Pretty easy read of different people who check to a hotel in Paris. Many things happen to them over the course of their stay. No very exciting book but was just okay.

As the majestic Hotel Louis XVI is set to reopen after four years of renovations and the death of the beloved manager, the new manager and assistant manager are in for quite an opening. A medical emergency happens and while some of the guests are helping to save him, another person is found dead in one of the rooms. As someone is contemplating suicide, he ends up saving a life instead. After a complicated divorce, an art dealer meets a wonderful man, but will be want to start a relationship with his health condition? Many exciting events happen in the grand opening of the hotel. Another winner from Danielle Steel!

I enjoy Danielle Steel books for what they are—escapism and romance. Sadly this book is schizophrenic—the story of Allaister and Gabrielle is classic Steel and an enjoyable story with pleasant privileged people. I’d give it 4 stars.

Sadly, the other storyline of Patrick who is a French politician is overtly homophobic and adds nothing to the book. Ironically, Steel doesn’t fully commit to this storyline either. So it’s offensive to no good end. It feels like someone told her to become more topical and then didn’t edit her. As a long time reader this storyline is even more offensive as i don't think she’s ever had a gay character and her first 2 are deplorable humans. There is an admirable gay character introduced later but it is too little too late. Skip this one.

Another wonderful story by Danielle Steel that took us to the reopening of the Hotel Louis XVI in Paris after being closed for renovations. We are introduced to quite a few different characters but the main story focuses on recently divorced Gabrielle , who I really liked. Lots of other side stories and as usual I finished the book feeling like I had actually been there.
