This was a charming read that follows a young girl who's worried about her mother's safety due to COVID. Her mother runs a hair salon, which involves being close to customers, so her daughter comes up with silly ways to keep everyone safe. The art style was very fun, and it will be a good outlet for kids to understand what their parents have been going through. It also shows that kids can do their part and be helpful instead of helpless, which is a really good message for them. Stories involving current events can sometimes lack tact, but this was a respectful portrayal of service workers and it will be good for kids to digest what their world has been like.

Lockdown Hair is a perfect way to have conversations with your kids about real life events - like the pandemic. It allows them to understand things in a tangible way because they are living through them. It also inspires kids to dream and invent - to use their creativity! The quote from Greta Thunberg at the end compliments the heart of the book well, and it is so helpful for parents to utilize the discussion and comprehension questions to have a open conversation with their kids.

Lockdown Hair is a fun, watercolor, fully illustrated children’s book about a girl named Siona and her family during the global pandemic lockdown. This book does a wonderful job gently, yet hilariously 😁 discussing the global pandemic, lockdowns, and how it is affecting families.
Siona is a likeable character who worries about what her mother, a hairdresser, will do once her salon reopens. Siona comes up with creative and inventive steps her mother can take to keep her, as well as her customers, safe and healthy.
I loved the humor in the character, Siona. I felt like this book had a perfect balance between discussing a current (hard for kiddos) topic and keeping it on an appropriate kid approved level while adding in humor.
The illustrations help the reader really bring to life Siona’s creative and funny ideas.
The author, Linda Steinbock, used a real life current issue (hair care during the lockdown) to relate to many readers. Great job! Very cute book. I will be adding this book to my children’s bookshelf. Thanks to NetGalley and Canoe Tree Press for allowing me to read this e-book.

I'm unsure of the age group that this book is intended for but it sure is funny. Not sure if really young kids would get the humor. But having books being released that are talking about the current events that we are going through is very smart.

Really enjoyed the review questions posed at the end to help with the conversations between parents and kids and how they are managing their feelings about the pandemic.

The art was lovely, the colors and story are a bright contrast to the heavy topic that lies underneath.

Well I think this one was made more for adults 😉
Kids didn't really understand the needs for a haircut like adults did, but this was a cute way to help kids see that safety measure needed to be implemented to keep everyone safe during these trying times. With Siona's clever yet silly ways to make safety changes, I think it would be appealing to kids - give a good laugh but also open doors for explanation and understanding. And we ALL felt like Siona's grandma at one point!

This was a sweet book about a girl trying to solve the problems of social distancing when her mom returns to her job as a hairdresser. I love the illustrations, they were bright, colorful, and fun. I also love the discussion questions at the end of the book.

Sonia, a sweet caring little girl, is stressing about her mother's return to work. Her mother is a hairdresser and there is an ominous virus lurking everywhere. Sonia is worried that her mom might come in contact with it and get sick. Always resourceful Sonia decides to make a list of important things that will keep her mother safe.

She runs to her desk upstairs and focuses on various strategies and solutions that her mother will need to put into practice. When she presents her thoughtful suggestions to her mum, her mum is very impressed.

"Sonia, this is brilliant!' Mum says proudly. "I'll need to show this to all my friends at the hair salon! We'll definitely keep everyone safe if we do haircuts like this!"

" Dad hugs Sonia. "You're going to be an inventor when you grow up!"

This timely book is perfect to share at this time. It is sure to spark conversations and solutions to what families are experiencing in so many places around the world. Discussions will calm fears and offer positive, constructive action in this very scary and problematic time. The wonderful illustrations are entertaining, kid-friendly and
relatable. I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Read and reviewed by seven-year-old Amy.
I loved the funny and colorful illustrations of this book and also the sweet story of Siona. She cares for her mother and comes up with different plans to help her mother get back to work. I loved the last illustration with a lot of hair on Siona’s head.
Lockdown Hair is a pretty fun way to remind children to stay safe. This book reminds us about all the things we are facing during Coronavirus: wearing masks, social distancing, and video calling.
I recommend this book to children three and above.

This is a cute way to talk to kids about the need for safety and social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dialogue between the characters seems a bit forced in the beginning of the book, but once Siona starts inventing ways for her mom to help clients at the salon, the writing flows a lot better and kids will become more engaged due to the silly suggestions. The watercolor illustrations definitely added to the story. The "discussion and comprehension" page at the back of the book was an added bonus, and another way for caregivers and educators to discuss the pandemic with children.

Lockdown Hair by Linda Steinbock and illustrations by Alexandra Rusu

Siona is worried about her mom going back to work at a hair salon during the pandemic. So she comes up with a list of ideas to keep her safe!

This is a sweet book that deals directly with living in lockdown and the scary but also silly sides of it. My 7 year old didn’t cut his hair 11 months, so it was perfect for my kids! I loved that this was a kid friendly story about what is happening in the world. Plus the illustrations are gorgeous!

What a great story and so timely! This is one of those books that parents will be happy to read to their children as it discusses a common issue that’s relative to pretty much everyone-our hair. It’ll resonate easily with kids as the author gets right to the heart of the subject matter. The way she writes about having goofy hair will give kids a giggle or two. And the discussion questions at the end are ingenious as well as helpful.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Siona does her part during the COVID pandemic lockdown by inventing a plan for her mother's return as a hairdresser. The President has asked everyone to social distance, but lockdown hair is getting out of control! This was a cute story and one that will be fun to share with future generations to give them a glimpse of what children went through in 2020!

Pandemic books for kids is definitely going to be a thing after this last year. I mean, I grew up with environmental warning books like [book:The Wump World|997600], so that's not surprising. As I'm sure you guess going off the cute cover, this one has a great message and focuses on being safe and oh my gosh, it is ADORBS.

Who doesn't love a book about staying safe in lockdown with a quote at the end by Greta Thunberg? This is seriously so sweet. The plot follows a young girl trying to come up with inventive ways to help at a hair salon during the pandemic. The leaf blower for hair drying to stay two metres apart rather than a blow dryer was particularly cute!

This book was ok but silly. It seems late to be publishing a coronavirus book for kids when it’s been ongoing for a year now.

We all have it: the lockdown hair! This is a lovely book about the Corona pandemic and its impact on society. It does a very good job of explaining the situation to children and which safety measures have to be followed. Little Siona, who is stuck in lockdown with her family, comes up with great ideas so her mom could continue her hairdressing job. The story gives hope that everything is always a matter of perspective and creativity is key when confronted with problems. All the illustrations are very beautiful!

This book is great! It succeeds in taking the fear and anxiety out of the feelings and the actions caused by the pandemic and making sense of them. Funny, clever and relateable. My only criticism of this book is it is too American to be suitable for my audience, if there was an anglicised version I would buy it without hesitation.

Lockdown Hair features one of the cutest illustrations I have seen lately!
The book is about Siona, who wants to help her mom with her hair salon, She comes up with ideas on how her mom can tend to her customers, while social distancing.
Overall, this was an enjoyable children's book!

This was a funny and charming book to help us all look at lockdown with a little humor. My daughter is 8 and thought it was a fun read. She liked the yard tools and laughed out loud. The images are nicely done and the topic is current.

Lockdown Hair is one of the first children's books that I have seen about the global pandemic known as the coronavirus. Lockdown Hair is a book about a young girl named Siona. Siona's mother is a hairdresser. The book follows Siona as she makes a list of what her mother does as a hair dresser and how she [her mother] can safely take care of her clients while maintaining a 2 meter distance between herself and her client. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the book gives a child friendly look into the pandemic. It also brings some child friendly humor into the mix.

Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely! I plan to purchase this for my girls once the book has been released.
