A young girl befriends an unfriendly pony, but the pony isn't able to shy away from her steady but gentle kindness. They form a bond, only to be separated from each other unexpectedly. However, nothing can keep them from searching for each other.

A beautifully written and illustrated book that not only has ponies, and who doesn't love ponies, but shows the power of compassion and how kindness is never forgotten.

Oh what a lovely, heartfelt book. I have never been horse crazy myself but lots of little girls are and this book would be perfect for them. Really for any child who loves animals this book would be perfect. Also has truly beautiful art as well. I loved it!

Review of eBook

There once was a girl with long blond hair who had always dreamed of having a pony that she could love forever. She worked at a barn so that she could ride the ponies, even scruffy gray Me Too that everyone said was just plain mean. Everyone at the barn was afraid of Me Too . . . except the girl with the long blond hair.

The girl doesn’t believe the pony is mean; she thinks Me Too only wants someone to be nice to her. The girl with the long blond hair rides the gray pony every day; she tells her that she loves her and she shares her cookies with the pony. They go to horse shows and everyone is surprised when they win every class . . . everyone except the girl with the long blond hair. Together, the pony and the girl know that they can do anything, perhaps even jump the moon.

When summer was over, Me Too went back to her old home and the girl planned to see her when summer came again. But that didn’t happen. Me Too was sold several times while the girl went to college and got married.

Then Me Too began to dream about the girl with the long blond hair. And the girl began to dream about Me Too. Will the girl and the horse be able to find each other once again?

Young readers ages four and up are the target audience for this lovely picture book in which they see the power of love, the strength of trust, and joy of bonding between the girl and the horse as they learn they should never limit the possibilities and never give up on their dreams.

While equestrians young and old are sure to find something to appreciate here, the story has wider appeal simply for its message of acceptance, compassion, and love and of following a dream. Enhanced by the stunning, soft-color illustrations, this is a story that reminds all animal lovers to appreciate the joy that comes from simply being together.

Based on a true story, this heartwarming tale is sure to elicit a smile [and perhaps a happy tear or two] from every reader.

Highly recommended.

This is the absolute sweetest children's book I've read in a long time! I'm always on the lookout for books to read to my niece and I will absolutely be reading this to her next time I see her. She is currently obsessed with all things unicorn so I think this story of a little grey horse looking for love and the young girl that connects with her would be perfect.

The illustrations seem to be soft colored pencil and really fits the tone of the story. There is a sad part in the story but don't worry, it's resolved quite well by the end and young readers will be happy to know that this friendship isn't over. I was particularly touched to find out that it's based on a true story!

Oh, my! This beautiful book, based on a true story, is about how Love and Trust can warm the hardest heart; and that dreams do come true. Perfect for children who have problems with trust and/or love horses. I will definitely be reading this to my grand-niece.

This was a very heartwarming book that touched my family when we read it. The connection the main character has with the pony shows how compassion and love can change lives. I loved the nostalgic aspect of the book, especially naming the main character "the girl with the long blonde hair". The illustrations were beautiful and the writing was clear and poignant. From a parents perspective, this reminds me to help my children value the little things in their life because we never know when they might go away or become forgotten about.

I'm not quite sure why "Jump the Moon" didn't really do it for me. The background art was beautiful, and it was very similar in tone to some of the fairy books I used to read as a child, which indicated that it would be a good fit. Unfortunately, there were a few factors that just didn't work for me. I hated that the horse was called "Me Too," which probably could have been fixed by having the fact that this was a true story mentioned at the beginning of the book rather than the end. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction, and for whatever reason, picturing a horse with that name before knowing the book's background felt too on the nose, especially since the line was also used as Me Too's main dialogue. The font didn't contrast well against the backgrounds on some of the pages. I don't have dyslexia or other disabilities but this may prove an issue for those who do. And I also wasn't a huge fan of there being a religious quote promoting the Christian faith on what had otherwise been a non-religious book (I'm Catholic so trust me when I say it has nothing to do with prejudice against Christians), but I guess to each their own.
I will say that the art was definitely age appropriate and I can imagine a child being drawn in by the book's appearance and even by the story itself. As an adult reading it, I could take it or leave it, although I will admit the true story that inspired this book is fascinating to think about.

Jump the Moon is a touching story of a lonely horse and a caring girl, that will truly touch your heart. I remember the days of being a kid on the farm, and the care and bonding that went into horses in particular. They truly become your best friends and you can feel that come out in this book. The illustrations are calm and comforting and really let you sink into the storyline. Lovely all around read.

I loved this little story. The illustrations were beautiful and the story was touching. I was afraid it might have a sad ending but it ended happily, and I was even more touched to read that it was based on a true story! A great little horse story about love and dreams that would be great for kids aged 4-7.

5 stars.

Ohh good gosh nobody told me how amazing this book would be! I will completely admit that I am very very guilty here of judging a book by it's cover, but can you blame me! It's absolutely beautiful 😍. The illustrations are so soft and the colours, don't get me started on that because it's basically my favourite colour combinations the whole way through this book.

The story was so full of heart. It was beautiful. It was happy. It was sad. It was magical. It was a dreamers dream and a wishers wish. It's a story of friendship and love and it also teaches the value of kindness, to all beings.

If your child loves ponies, just like little Rachel does, then this is a must read. Plus, it's a true story!

This heartwarming book is based on a true story about a young girl who wins the heart of a troublesome horse one summer. She is able to form a bond with the horse through her patience and love. Years later, she searches for the horse, who has been bought and sold by a few owners who cannot connect with the horse like she did.

I loved the illustrations, and maybe it's just the postpartum hormones, but I got a little teary-eyed at one point of the book! This is a truly beautiful story.

The book is not for sale at traditional book retailers. It is available online on the author's website, www.readjumpthemoon.com as well as at many tack shops (the locations of which can be found on the author's website).
