Julie must have been fun.

Ellen needs to chill out. I do feel bad that she found out her kid died like that.

A preacher reading that? Yikes.

So it's not a metaphorical shoebox?

Freaky.

Sarah really needs to talk to the sheriff.

Worst grandmother ever.

Sheesh, I'm one of the "old people".

I'm with Grace on this.

Tomato pie? Ew.

I knew it.

Excellent compromise.

Ooh, nice epilogue.

Wonderful women’s fiction with a touch of romance and magic! I thoroughly enjoyed Karen Hawkins book as much as I enjoyed her first one… And look forward to more stories of romance and magic from the town of Dove Pond.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Cup of Silver Linings is the second book in Karen Hawkins’ Dove Pond series that follows the lives (and adventures) of seven Dove daughters. I suggest that you start the series with the first book The Book Charmer. Each book has its own ‘story’ aka sister that is in the focus but as we are talking about sisters then you should really take them in order, they build upon each other so in order to get the full enjoyment out of the universe that Karen has created … well, you need to start from the beginning.
A Cup of Silver Linings is Ava’s story. She is the sister who is the owner of Ava’s Landscaping and Specialty Gourmet Tea and is in the process of opening her Tea room. Yes, you are right in thinking that she is the sister who ‘reads’ the plants. She has been creating personalized teas to town people for years and you can imagine what happens when suddenly her teas no longer do what they are supposed to! In addition, a secret that Ava has been keeping for years is forcing its way out to the surface and it will have some far reaching and heart breaking consequences …
I absolutely adore how the writer has created that small town that I feel that if I could, I would just move to! I am sure I would find a place there! In the center of Dove Pond and the stories is the magic of seven daughters of the seventh daughter, the relationships, the friendships … it all creates a foundation that cannot be shaken with the changing of times … it will always be there where one needs it and in the times when one needs healing, it holds you up and carries you … It is such an inspiring series and I cannot wait to meet the next of the sisters! Just a side note, I love how each book has its own central story while there is an underlying storyline that carries on from one book to the other … like a colorful tapestry that cannot be broken!

A Cup of Silver Linings by Karen Hawkins is a delightful little trip back to Dove Pond. Where The Book Charmer introduced us to the Dove family, it focused on Sarah, the librarian. Silver Linings centers on her sister Ava, whose skills include making specialized teas that help people with whatever ails them.
It was fun revisiting characters we met in the first book,, as well as being introduced to several new and interesting additions. The conflict begins when people angrily begin to return their teas, claiming that they are damaged. As Ava struggles to remedy the teas, she must also confront an old secret that has catastrophic consequences.

I anticipated a quick cozy read, but this is so much more than that. The magic, the emotions and good writing make this a very enjoyable read.
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery books for this ARC. Excellent!

I did not think to much this book when I requested it, I really loved the cover. That is what caught my attention first. This was a fabulous story, it was amazing to get into the lives of the people of Dove Cove. I feel in love with this place. This is one of those stories that you want to just continue. I tried to limit myself when I picked this up, but I just kept reading. I really hope this story continues with the rest of the residents of Dove Cove.
I will be rereading this book as well as having our book club read this when it comes out. I also will be recommending Karen Hawkins to others to read. Loved this story, and i can not wait for more to come out!!!!!!

A Cup of Silver Linings is book #2 in the Dove Pond series by author Karen Hawkins. These books are fun, entertaining and so enjoyable to read. What I love most about them is that they have a touch of magic to them which makes them so special. Dove Pond is a quaint little town where the seven Dove sisters grew up. Each book tells the story about a different sister. The first book, The Book Charmer, is about the sister Sarah who is the town librarian. She has the ability to speak with books. This particular book is about Ava. She has a greenhouse, a landscaping business and a soon to be open tearoom. She has the special ability to make teas specifically made for different peoples ailments. The author has done a wonderful job blending the two books together so it’s like one continuous storyline. The characters in Dove Pond are all quirky and wonderful and people you would love to have for neighbors. This was such a fun read and a series I’m sure everyone will enjoy. I know I sure do! I’m looking forward to July 6, 2021 which is the release date so I can order my own personal copy to add to my home library. I’d like to thank Gallery Books for accepting my request and NetGalley for the arc to read, review and enjoy. I really love this series and am looking forward to adding all of Karen Hawkins books to my collection. This is another 5 star read of hers!

Slightly magical, pleasant read. The story weaves around Ava opening her tea room and her mystical blends of teas, Kristen dealing with losing her mother, Sarah, Ava’s sister and her book charms and Ellen, Kristen’s grandmother who has come to take care of Kristen.

Reading this felt like watching a Hallmark movie but in the best sense. The characters were likable and in the end turned out with a happy ending. I loved the book until the epilogue where I was hoping of a summery of any of the characters - it was not what I expected and I don’t feel like it added anything to the book. Overall, I would recommend it.

Thank you Gallery Books and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange of my honest review!

I fell in love with Karen Hawkins when I randomly picked up The Book Charmer last year. I read mainly thrillers, but I was looking for some wholesome content to enjoy before diving into the next domestic thriller. I enjoyed The Book Charmer so much, I knew I had to follow Karen Hawkins and her Dove Pond Series. So, as you imagined, I was ecstatic when I was given the opportunity to review A Cup of Silver Linings (book #2).

I am happy to see that the same wholesome content that I enjoyed so much from The Book Charmer was in this second book. This series gives me total Gilmore Girl vibes with a touch of magical realism. The only real critique I have is the voice and language the younger characters used. You can tell that Karen was trying hard to give the teenage characters a 2020 gen-z lexicon. However, it was a bit much. Other than that, I had a real great time reading and I can not wait for book #3!

Overall rating: 3.5/5

I am a long time fan of Karen Hawkins, and I loved The Book Charmer, so I was very excited to read A Cup of Silver Linings, the second book in the Dove Pond series.

This book centers on Ava Dove who is able to commune with plants and make healing teas. Additionally, her neighbors down the street feature as main characters. Kristen Foster and her grandmother Ellen get to know each other in the wake of Kristen's mother's death. Chapters alternate perspectives among all of them and Ava's sister, Sarah. The story tackles themes of grief, mistakes, and forgiveness. And it does it all within the magical setting of Dove Pond, where it feels anything is possible.

There are multiple mysteries woven throughout. They kept me guessing well into the book. And I love the small town feel with the local cafe and Ava's new tearoom. So many of the scenes made me want hot chocolate and delicious food.

The book can stand alone. However, I was happy that I had already read The Book Charmer. Dove Pond has lots of quirky characters, and remembering them from the previous book helped me to keep track of them all. This is a beautifully written story that filled me with hope. I loved seeing the continuation from the previous book and eagerly anticipate Ella Dove's return in the next one.

Thank you to Gallery Books and NetGalley for this advanced copy. The opinions here are my own.

Writing: 3/3 Plot: 3/3 Characters: 4/5

A second installment of what promises to continue the fun, lightly magical, tales of Dove Pond. This episode focuses on Ava Dove, the sixth of the seven Dove sisters, whose semi-magical herbal teas — carefully concocted for each individual client — are starting to go wonky. Meanwhile, buttoned-up grandmother Ellen is brought to town for the funeral of her long-estranged daughter Julie and runs into trouble trying to convince Julie’s daughter Kristen to leave Dove Pond for a fabulous new life in Raleigh. Sarah Dove — daughter seven — is back as well, continuing to listen (literally) to books as they tell her who needs to read them (yes, I would be so happy to pay for that talent!). Simple but appealing characters and a light touch of mostly playful magic that is more an extension of the person’s character — this feels like a combination of Alice Hoffman and Fannie Flagg to me. A nice feel good book.

The much anticipated follow up to the Book Charmer, Karen Hawkins once again will delight her readers with the Dove sisters - Ava & Sara and all the beloved characters of Dove Pond. Great heartwarming story. Of course she ends the book for another sequel with sister Eva - can’t wait for another book!

A touching story of grief and secrets. Teenage Kristen grieves over the loss of her mother while trying to get to know her grandmother. Ava is dealing with a secret that will threaten her relationship with her sister Sarah. I can’t wait to read the next Dove Pond story which is about Ella. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Gallery Books for my honest review.

Rounding up to four, simply because of the enjoyment factor. It was a delight to return to Dove Pond and the specially talented Dove sisters. Fun, quirky magical characters and a bit of light romance.

I want to thank the author and Netgalley gifting me the ebook. If you are a fan of Sarah Addison Allen, then you are going to love this book. This book is like some of your favorite comfort food...cozy and will warm your bones! Story is very sweet and has that small southern town charm with quirky characters. They'll make you laugh and I'll make you cry and best of all they'll make your soul warm up like a nice hot cup of hot cocoa. I will definitely be reading more from this author and I can't wait to read what I take is going to be a sequel.

The town of Dove Pond has always contained a "Dove," a family with a little something extra about them. Ava Dove loves plants and they love her, sharing secrets and suggestions with her to make her teas the best and most beneficial for the people in the town she loves. But when things start going a little ... wonky....

Hawkins' introduction of the Doves' in "The Book Charmer," gave us a tight-knit sisterly bond that continues in this second installment. Sarah is still bubbly and optimistic but this time we see the maternal and kind Ava. This sweet story of family, differences, and learning to love both is a wonderful next edition to this series. I can't wait for book 3!

A Cup of Silver Linings Does Not Disappoint

I fell in love with Dove Pond, the Dove sisters, and the entire community really, upon reading The Book Charmer: Dove Pond Series Book 1 and really enjoyed following Sarah and learning all about her peculiar gift. (For those reviewers who have not read Book 1 and felt that Sarah’s gift “did not add value to this story” I HIGHLY recommend reading them in order—even though they could serve as standalones—because you’ll be missing out on so much.)

Since books and tea are two of my favorite things, I absolutely enjoyed getting a closer look at Ava and her own unique gift. And gosh, this story has the entire gamut of emotions—there was grief, quarrels, budding romance, heartache, and wonderful humorous moments.

Another terrific leisurely read that allows one to escape into a magical world that you wish were truly possible. Ah, but that’s the beauty of books—to transport yourself to a place where it is possible. There were moments of intrigue, hope, love, friendship, and was so beautifully written.

I also love how Karen Hawkins teases us with the third book in the series, about Dove sister Ella, in the epilogue. I’m so there!

This is such a fun read and, since it wasn’t initially a typical pick for me, I’m so grateful to the Goodreads community (and my sister-in-law Christine) for introducing me to such an intriguing world and a cast that feels like they could be your friends.

Thank you to NetGalley and Karen Hawkins for the ARC of this wonderful book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early in return for a review. I had just finished “The Book Charmer” on loan from my mom and fell in love with Dove Pond. I was so excited to see this was available for review, and it did not disappoint. This story has a couple of different storylines, one following Dove sister Ava, and her special teas. She is getting ready to open her tea room and suddenly her teas are causing problems for her customers, rather than helping them. What is going on? We also get to know Kristen, a young girl who works for Ava and is going through a rough time. Her mom has just passed and her grandma has come to Dove Pond to take her to Raleigh and away from the life that she knows and holds connections to her mom. This was a heartwarming and fun story, and just as good as the precious book. I also like that while it helps to read the books in order, they could be read out of order as well. They also don’t contain any sex or crude language, if that is a concern. I’m very excited for the next book in the series!

Free book from Netgalley for review!~ I had read the first book in the series last year and had a great time so I was excited to see this novel on offer to request reading. I had a few other books backlogged to read first after I received this but I kept wanting to pick it up...

Finally, I did and it’s beautiful. Why did I wait so long? Anyway the author delves into some deeper subjects while she talks about her magical town. I’m not usually a fan of magical realism but here it makes sense to me and it’s just the right amount of quirkiness. We get to revisit characters and learn about some new ones.

There’s possibly triggers for cancer death and grief so keep that in mind if the Dear Reader is sensitive. However I think the author handles it in a lovely way in this verse and I was happy with the conclusion of the story—even if I figured it out pretty early on. Found family is one of my favorite themes and this book is just perfect.

It looks like this will have to be a seven book series, one for each sister.... possibly ending with them all at Dove Pond? I am delighted for it. Yes please send me all the books!

My thanks to NetGalley for making an eARC copy of this book available to me.

You get a book whisperer, a master tea blender, four dogs, a few spunky teenagers, a hunky handyman, a hunky sheriff, and perhaps some ghosts. They all tie this book together very nicely, and we get more than one romance plot line as well. The end of this book also lets us know which sister will be featured in the next book. While you could read this thoroughly enjoyable book on its own, you would triple your pleasure by reading the related novel ("The Book Charmer") and novella ("Love in the Afternoon") first.

I loved this book!!! I was first drawn to it because of the gorgeous cover - and then was sold once I read the description. I was sucked in from the first page - I mean, who doesn't fall in love with a book during a good funeral scene lol. Grandma Ellen changed throughout this book and it was necessary so that she wouldn't make the same mistakes with that she made with Kristen's mom, Julie. I enjoyed the light magical feel of the book and was pleased that it didn't over power the stories. I can't wait to read more stories about the Dove sisters!!! This is the 2nd in a series - but is it's own story - so don't stress if you don't discover them until this one :) I was given a digital copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review - thank you so much for the opportunity, Netgalley!
