I received an advanced readers copy of a Highland Warrior by Heather McCollum.

This is a great addition to the Sons of Sinclair series.

The attraction between Kára and Joshua is immediate. Their relationship builds from that first meeting as Kára does what she can to convince Joshua to stay and help them fight their enemies.

Joshua shows the wisdom he’s gained from his experiences engaging in war and is conflicted about what to do as a result.

The book is well researched and the historical details and the setting added depth to the story.

I’ve enjoyed this series so far and look forward to reading other books by this author.

I loved book 1 in this series (Highland Conquest) and continue to love everything about the world that McCollum has created.
We join the Horseman of War as he sets off to continue teaching the art of war to those who need protection. Except the evil lord whose army he just taught turns out to be abusing and killing the land's original inhabitants. The beautiful chief of those people convinces Joshua Sinclair that fighting a losing battle is sometimes worth it if it's for love.
There is so much to enjoy in this story. There's the prerequisite and expertly done romance, of course, but there's also a great amount of action and introspection and just great storytelling.
I sped read this one and I can't wait for the rest of the Sinclairs to get their own stories.

Extremely happy thanks to NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the read!

What's a war chief to do when the leader of the clan decides to pursue peace? Joshua Sinclair is about to find out, since his brother isn't interested in waging war. Unhappy with his situation, Joshua leaves home and finds a position training others in the art of warfare.

It's here that his viewpoint begins to change as he sees the consequences of aggression and his association with widowed Kara Flett, who is no stranger to war time. She's got her own agenda for the war chief that includes seduction and more! When Joshua realizes her desperation he goes along with her plan and ends up finding there is more to Kara, especially in the bedroom.

This was a terrific historical escape that captured the time period and ethnicities well and I appreciated that. As a romance, there's plenty of chemistry between the main characters. I was drawn into this series after reading the first book and I've been invested in how each of the Sinclair clan with find their HEA. So overall, a nice escapist historical romance with interesting characters and entertaining action to keep things moving along.

Another flavor in stepping back in time with this romance. It is also part of a lovely series also. Joshua has changed with him not being as fierce as he used to be. When him and Kara cross paths the story unfolds with different things that come to light that see fails to happen. When they come together things take a direction that sears a path. Choices have to be made with some that catch our attention. A clan tale that will have you turning the pages for the whole story.

Heather McCollum never disappoints. I love the whole premise of this series and book 2 did not disappoint. Joshua leaves his brothers and clan at the end of book 1 to journey off on his own, struggling with understanding how his brother and laird makes decisions. After battling and training soldiers he decides to go back home. As he was looking for a ship he meets Kara in Orkney and plans soon change, not by his own freewill.

Kara and Joshua's journey is filled with heart ache, passion, attempts to find themselves and love one another. The fact that Joshua is naked or half naked for quite a bit of the book is also a huge plus! (LOL)

McCollum makes strong and fierce heroines with equally fierce but compassionate hero's and I am here for it!!!
I cannot wait for the other brother's stories!

When I want to read a story about a Highland Warrior....this is exactly the type of book I'm looking for! I have not read the first book in the Sinclair Clan series, but after reading about the Horseman of War, Joshua Sinclair, I know that I want to read about his brothers.. If the brief interaction between them at the end of the book is any indication, then I'm sure the brothers' adventures will be just as intriguing as Joshua's. The author has written a very descriptive book regarding Joshua's finding love in a warrior-woman-queen, Kara, as well the battle he wages against the tyrant Earl Robert Stuart on her people's behalf. It was interesting to watch the young and fierce Horseman of War deal with domestic issues of the Orkney people as his heart became deeply intertwined with Kara.. While the book definitely keeps the reader's interest....at about half way through I did not even want to put it down knowing a battle was coming, and that things would not go as Joshua planned because of the strong-willed Kara. The daring way that Joshua planned for he and Kara to have their freedom at the end made me hold my breath and laugh out loud at what had to have been a horrifying scene to "The Brute". Definitely a book worth reading for fans of this genre....you will not be disappointed! Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled: Amara for the opportunity to read and review this advance reader copy. #NetGalley #HighlandWarrior

I love Ms. McCollum's writing with her strong and powerful heroes and her fierce warrior heroines. Her characters are dedicated to their people and will risk everything to save them.

Joshua Sinclair, the Horseman of War, has studied war his whole life and only knows how to win. After losing a precious life after a battle that should not have been fought, and after completing his training for Lord Robert Stuart's men to fight, Joshua realizes war is not all he wants anymore and he prepares to go home to the Sinclair clan of Northern Scotland. But fate has it that a fierce and determined young woman would change the course of his life.

Kára Flett, Norse queen, is committed to her people. So much so, she would seduce the fearsome Horseman of War to lead her people to victory against Robert Stuart. The very army he just finished training. But she doesn't know he is done fighting wars. Especially a war that would mean sure death for her small village. Until the unthinkable happens, and his growing affection for her and her people calls him to battle again and the performance of his life.

I have enjoyed Joshua's mischievous side since book 1, though you don't see it as much in this book. It humanizes him and lessens the God's horseman mystique which he uses to his advantage in war. In addition, we get to see his vulnerable side as he struggles with guilt from something he thought he could prevent. Kára is also a great force in his life that he didn't expect and he refers many times to her presence giving him peace. Can you say soulmate? There is no better ally and companion for a formidable man than a brave female warrior who can steal his clothes, weapons, and heart in one fell swoop.

Of course, Ms. McCollum includes a fun and diverse group of supporting characters who complement this fast-paced suspense-filled story. The siege on Robert Stuart's castle is an exciting high-point where I cheered for all, as well as the nail-biting ruse at the end that had me guessing what would happen.

I recommend this lovely Highlander romance novel that can be read as a standalone, but I suggest you read from the beginning because you will enjoy all of the characters and the amusing family dynamics. I can't wait to read more about the Sinclair clan.

Thank you to Ms. McCollum, Entangled Publishing, and Netgalley, for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Another of the Horsemen Sinclair brothers find love. Joshua is known as the Horseman of War. Just when he decides to quit making war he meets Kara. Kara is fighting to keep her people safe against a tyrannical leader. She needs Joshua’s help. This is a wonderful story. You will find yourself chuckling as you read of the antics Kara will resort to in getting her desired results. They steam up the sheets as they build their relationship. There is also action as they face and defeat the enemy to be able to live the happy life they deserve.

Highland Warrior is the second book in the Sons of Sinclair series by Heather McCollum. A historical romance that sweeps you off the feet and takes your breath away. A well-written romance that pulls you in from the beginning and leaves you wanting more.

I am a fan of Heather Mc Collum after reading a few books from her 'Highland Isles Series' she write the alpha Scottish male and usually feisty female verra well.

I have to admit that I haven't read the first book in the series, as I didn't know it existed. I am not sure it would detract in my enjoyment of this story but I am sure it would have helped to give me so back ground on Joshua Sinclair and his Kin especially Cain his brother and Chief of Sinclair. Joshua is a notorious warrior for hire, with a fierce reputation, travelling back home after helping train Robert Stuarts men to claim Orkney.

Having been born to war Joshua doesn't really concern himself with the politics of it until he meets, Kára Flett, chief of her small clan of Orkney natives a brave lass who wants to protect her Island and her people and asks Joshua for his help.

What is great about this book it that is partly bases on fact. "exert from google" - Robert Stewart, 1st Earl of Orkney and Lord of Zetland (Shetland) (spring of 1533 – 4 February 1593) was a recognised illegitimate son of James V, King of Scotland, and his mistress Eupheme Elphinstone. Robert Stewart was half-brother to Mary, Queen of Scots and uncle to James VI and I of Scotland and England.

Scotland was brought frough out these times and it is something the author captures so well in the characters and the story. I will definitely be buying a copy of the first book in theories and reading those that follow. I loved it.

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Expected date of publication April 27th 2021.

Heather McCollum is a fierce battle writer of Highland Romance! Her books are always written with flair and just that hint of humor, but there has to be battles and sexual spice or it’s not a Highland Romance!

Joshua Sinclair is not only a battle hardened warrior, but he knows his way around a women’s body as well. He has decided that he is ready to go home ,but Kara. Flett, the new Chief or Queen of this tiny village he stopped in to get a drink has other ideas. They think to sway him to get his help to train them to stop the overlord from taking the women and enslaving the men to work on his castle.

Joshua and Kara are about to begin a tumultuous relationship that causes twists and turns that you won’t want to miss in this book!

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

This was an entertaining and at times, a very tense read. Joshua Sinclair is the warrior, who is skilled in the art of war. He is quite a terrifying figure to be up against, tall, broad and fierce. Kara, is a chief on the island of Orkney, and is determined to enlist Joshua’s help against their enemy. This story moves along at a good pace, there is plenty of action, danger and passion. It also has a strong, loving relationship that develops between Joshua and Kara. I loved the strong family bond between Joshua and his brothers and I look forward to reading more about this family. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Joshua Sinclair, the Horseman of War, set off having lost his interest in warring. Nothing can make him take up arms again. Except for a beautiful woman.

Kara Flett, current chief of her clan, has plans to seduce the Highlander and all her tactics leave him unmoved. Until the enemy directly threatens her. He finds that he must protect the woman he has come to love.

I loved Kara and Joshua's story. They had great chemistry from the moment they met. And we get some steamy scenes from them pretty early in the book.
There is plenty of action too. Fight scenes, even one done in the nude. Which when you stop and think about is pretty wild.
I loved being back in Scotland with the Sinclairs who we briefly get a scene with towards the end.

Thanks so much to Entangled, NetGalley, and the author for this ARC for review.

Amazing story! Joshua and Kara are true warriors!

There is so much that I loved about this story that I hardly know where to begin. Joshua is beginning to grow weary of his Horseman of War persona, though he has perfected his skills so that he's the most feared and formidable warrior in all of Scotland. He knows more than most the true cost of war, and has rarely seen a victory that was worth the sacrifice.

Kara is the de facto leader of a small, close-knit community who are consistently abused and oppressed by Robert Stuart, the uncle of Scotland's current king. She's determined to fight at all costs to free her people from him and his equally vicious sons, so she all but leaps at the chance to recruit Joshua to her cause.

As a history buff, I really appreciated how the author handled the intermixing of fact and fiction.
Robert Stuart is based on an historical figure, and the author makes great use of this person's known acts of tyranny while expanding on his activities to portray him as a cruel villain, though stopping short of changing the outcome of the story when it would conflict with the historical record. As a result, the victory here is not complete, though the author's note at the end gives us the satisfaction of knowing that justice was served within about ten years, and with the help of the Sinclair clan.

The romance between Kara and Joshua begins with a fiery passion that is nearly all-consuming. But then real life steps back in, and they have to deal with much more pressing matters than their obvious physical compatibility. It is through this time of shared trials that the real love story takes place, and it's exquisitely delivered. It's almost a slow-burn romance at this point, which seems counter-intuitive against the backdrop of their insta-lust beginning, but I for one really enjoyed how they grew to love each other because of, not in spite of, all the obstacles that kept them from each other's beds.

It was so perfectly fitting that not only was Joshua a student of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, but that the author included a quote from this preeminent work in each chapter's heading. These insights into battle strategy really helped to underscore the issues that dictated Joshua's decisions, and why he was trying to lead the Flett clan to a solution that seemed to be the opposite of what they thought they needed. The conflicts here are expertly layered, with both psychological dilemmas as well as physical threats. It was truly enlightening to see how each conflict had to be addressed as a battle of its own, and victory did not always look like they thought it would. When there's no clear path to justice, more than ever the moral character of the leader is his (or her) most important attribute.

Just when you think they're backed into a corner with no possible way out, the author impressively takes the story around a few new corners until Joshua, Kara, and her entire clan find their HEA and can finally breathe easy, looking forward to a life of security and peace.

Like the first in this series, this is a story that will stay with me for a good, long time. It's what I read books for, and I can't recommend this amazing story highly enough. If you love intelligent, thought-provoking historical romances that are both fully historical and fully romantic, this is the series for you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Joshua Sinclair, The Horseman of War, does not disappoint. He is on the isle of Orkney training the men of Robert Stuart, the Uncle of King James I. He comes to realize that Robert and his sons are murderous thugs who are basically terrorizing the clans that live there. Disgusted that he helps train these men, leaves the "Palace" and heads for home. He stops in one and the villages and finds the people who have been hurt the most. He finds out that the Ferry to take him back to Scotland has left so he, therefore, has to spend the night. When a beautiful woman offers to share her home and bed, well of course he accepts.

Kara Flett, now Chief of her clan (her Uncle Erik has been captured and tortured) decides if Joshua can train Roberts men, He can train her clan. How will she convince him...seduction!!!

The Horseman of War doesn't know what hits him. Kara and her family/clan will do what they can to fight for their isle!

Another Fabulous story by Heather McCollum that will not disappoint!

Highland Warrior as second in the Sons of Sinclair series starts with such sensual activity it seemed as though this romance would be played out in Kara’s underground home. But, no. Kara just needs Joshua to lead her small group into battle against their oppressors. It does not matter to her that Joshua just left the clan who is brutalizing her family and villagers. She wants his battle skill and will seduce him to succeed.

Joshua is one of the Four Horsemen, as determined by his father. He leads in battle and war. Generally, not taken by surprise. One of my favorite parts of the book is Kara ‘poisoning’ Joshua and removing all of his clothes and weapons until she can win him over to her side of the battle. Joshua is definitely none too happy about it.

Ironically, there seems to be a lot of public nudity of prisoners and during battle, in addition to ‘those’ scenes between Kara and Joshua. This is a ‘hold on to your chair’ type of book that is action packed and sex packed. You will love the instant and continued connection between Kara and Joshua.

Kara is a fierce warrior and wants to ensure the safety of her people against the tyrant Lord Robert, his sons and paid mercenaries. I loved this book and did not want to put it down. There is so much here to keep you engrossed in its pages. It could be read as a stand-alone, but I believe you enjoy it more by reading Highland Conquest first.

The beginning of the book has a glossary of a Scots Gaelic and Old English words used in the story. To be honest, it wasn't that hard to follow when they showed up in the story. Which I consider a good thing. Each Chapter also starts out with words from "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. The author also included an interesting Historical Note at the end of the book.
The people in the story were well developed starting with both of the main characters.
Kára Flett is someone that Joshua begins to see really is a warrior woman, a Warrior Queen. She is also a loving and fiercely protective person. Both to her young son and her people. She doesn't know what to make of Joshua Sinclair. She just knows that she has a mission to fulfill with The Horseman of War and she's not sure she can pull it off. One thing she is sure of is that she is wildly attracted to him. And he isn't slow to chase her either. They end up having "heated" scenes together but that doesn't overtake the story.
The villains in the story were also easy to "love to hate." And there's a whole family of them along with an extra bully, The Brute. It isn't all about just the bad guys because there are plenty of good people in the story. But it's not hard to follow and didn't give the feeling of being overwhelming.
Plenty of battles and makes you wonder if there's any way for a H.E.A. The twist at the end is a big one, a doozie of a surprise.
I was happy to see that there was a Epilogue as well.

Can the Horseman of War ever truly find peace? Joshua Sinclair is certainly going to try. He was raised by his father to be a warrior and to aid his clan in conquering Scotland. After disagreeing with his eldest brother in Highland Conquest, Joshua has set out on his own, training other warriors. But after truly seeing the cost of war Joshua is worn in spirit and looking for peace. It’s unlikely he’ll find it on Orkney Isle. After training the Lord Robert Stuart’s men to defend themselves against the locals, he sets off for home…only to find himself captivated by Kára Flett, Chief of the Orkney people. Kára will do anything to defend her people, including seducing and trying to sway the Horseman of War to her side. Joshua cannot be swayed by anyone. Who will win the battle of wills?

Heather McCollum had a bit of a hard task in Highland Warrior. Joshua was not the most likeable character in the first Sons of Sinclair book. Hot tempered and ready for war, I wasn’t sure he’d make a great hero. I was so glad I was wrong. The Joshua in this book is a wise warrior seeking peace. He has come into his own and is trying to do what’s best. He knows that isn’t working for the evil Lord Robert Stuart but he also knows he needs to extract himself diplomatically as the man is the king’s uncle.

Kára has known so much pain and loss and she still keeps fighting to protect her people. I loved her spirit and determination. She’s doing what she can to save her people and years of pillaging, death, and the threat of rape have not broken her. She and Joshua come together explosively at the beginning of the story and from there things only get more interesting. The two of them make a good pair – each of them is honest, strong, and protective by nature. They aren’t perfect, but they’re doing their best. I liked them together and their love story developed organically.

McCollum weaves fact and fiction together wonderfully in Highland Warrior. She also manages to keep this book moving at a fast pace despite the heavy topics and the threat Kára and her people are under – not an easy feat. I truly wasn’t sure how Kára and Joshua would make it out alive and though I won’t spoil it I will say McCollum made the ending feel earned. I finished Highland Warrior a well-satisfied reader and I’m looking forward to seeing what is coming for the next two Sinclair brothers.

Orkney chieftain Kara seduces Scottish warrior Joshua, hoping he'll protect her clan. With his loyalties torn, who will he choose?

Heather McCollum is a master of Highlander romance. This is an immersive, action-packed story of rivalry and raw emotion that will appeal to Highlander fans.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
