This series, Sons of Sinclair, has quickly become one of my very favourite book series and we're only at Book 2!! Heather McCollum once again brings us on quite the adventure, this time on the Isle of Orkney where the Horseman of War, Joshua, meets Kara, the clan chief, and his life is forever changed.
I loved Joshua and Kara's characters, both so strong and wanting to do what is right for the people. She will do anything to convince him to help her and her clan fight the merciless Stuart family who have made their lives miserable. Having known nothing but war, Joshua suddenly finds himself wanting peace and a life with Kara. Their story is filled with danger, twists and turns and heated passions that will fill your heart with emotion. I laughed, I cried, held my breath and sighed....never a dull moment!!
I am still giggling at the one part when Joshua thinks of asking Brenna to neigh while giving birth....that's a scene that will forever stay in my mind, it was so hilarious:) Very well written and definitely a book worth reading, it has everything you'd ever want in a historical romance.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Another win in this series, five stars all the way.
Joshua Sinclair is re thinking his way of life and on a journey back home to his clan when he meets Kara who in some ways tricks him to stay the night with her then begs for his help to train her clan.
The world building is wonderful, you could read this as a stand alone, but would get so much more understanding of Joshua's back story and the struggles that he is having if you read the first one in the series. Kara is a wonderfully strong leader for her people and goes well up against Joshua. They both have growth and depth to them, which I personally love in a story.
If you are looking a great highlander story, this one will tick the boxes. Looking forward to the next brother.

This is the awaited second book in the Sons of Sinclair series. This story follows Joshua Sinclair, the war brother aka war horseman, on his journey. Who knew his love of war could bring his need for peace and love?
I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It's one of those series where you just want to know about all of the characters and how their journey ends.

4.5/5
Joshua Sinclair just wants to get away from war and get back to his family, which is ironic because he is the Horseman of War. Kara Flett needs the Horseman of War to save her fallen clan from the Scottish oppressors that are taking advantage and killing her people. When the two tumble together into bed without Kara telling Joshua what she needs, will he help her people or leave and let them be killed?
First off, what is up with the horses? They just care so much about the horses, which is not a bad thing, but I just found it a weird quirk of the books and it made the books unique in their own sense.
Wow the names in this book were beautiful and I loved the meaning behind them. Kara means love and Joshua is biblical meaning Jehovah is salvation which I felt really represented their characters in the book. Kara does everything she can for her clan and Joshua being the Horseman of War. Also the attention to every little detail was phenomenal. I felt like I was in 1590 Scotland and I don’t normally feel like this with a book. Plus there were these little hilarious jests that were just delightfully thrown in that would bring in light to a dark situation.
Probably the best thing about this book is that you really see Joshua grow up in a sense. In Highland Conquest, you saw him as very war-hungry and just wanting to jump into battle. However in Highland Warrior, we see him actually trying to move away from war, wanting to go back to his family. I thought that McCollum did such an amazing job on transitioning his character between the two books and his character growth was on point.
Then there was the instant connection between the two characters from the moment they meet until the very end. They were a very refreshing couple and I liked that Kara never gave up on him.
Last thing I am mentioning is the quotes and research. Every chapter at the beginning included quotes from The Art Of War by Sun Tzu. This was a nice little touch that I felt really tied into the book bringing it a lot of character. And the amount of research that went into this book was incredible. At the end it included the true story behind it and the language was just beautiful. This all just made the book tie together oh so perfectly.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this advanced copy.

So, this is my first foray into the Scottish Highlander historical romance genre...and I am not disappointed. This is a fun, sexy book. I also like the historical time it's set in. Joshua and Kara's relationship is very insta-lust, and I'm here for it. But once you get beyond that, I love that they talk to each other and care about what the other needs, and are able to work through the political situation they are in. The author keeps you captivated and you start to really care for the characters and the situation they are in. I look forward to reading more from this author and more in this genre

**I received a copy of Highland Warrior from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**
Highland Warrior by Heather McCollum is the second book in her Sons of Sinclair series. This is Joshua Sinclair AKA Horseman of War and Kara Flett's story of war and love on the Isle of Orkney.
I love a good Highlander story but this one goes way beyond that showing the other side of Robert Stuart (Stewart) and his sons thirst for everything on Orkney including Kara. This book is well worth 5 stars and more.
Joshua Sinclair has grown tired of training Lord Robert Stuart plus he wants to go home before winter little does he know that when he stops a young boy from stealing his horse Fuil (Who loves turnips) he'd meet Kara Flett who desperately needs Joshua to help her train her people to fight against The Stuarts. They have taken not only stolen horses, but food and women but will he stay to help or go home to Scotland and his family? Joshua will fall in love with the strength the people of Hillside have when Henry attacks Kara on Samhain. When Kara's son is taken by the Stuart's can either of them trade their lives for a young child?
There will be surprise revelations in the ending that will have you cheering for the village and also for the men that realize Joshua's training also gave him friendship needs during a battle to see right from wrong.
