This was so adorably cute! I'm not a pug owner and am pretty solidly in the cat camp, but as someone who loves pet in general and has owned both dogs and cats in the past, this was wonderful. It perfectly illustrates pet and owner personalities and interactions. If you're a pet owner or love animals, you will likely enjoy these mostly single page comics about Mochi the pug and his humans. This is definitely a great read if you're looking for something to put a smile on your face.

Great quick read for an instant smile on your face. Illustrations on the daily life of living with a needy, funny and super cute pug named Moshi. Eventhough I don't have a dog, just being a pet owner and a mom still made most of this so relatable. My favorite section was Struggles as I think everyone can find something in common with Moshi.

This graphic novel shows illustrations of Mochi, the cutest little thing!!! Cartoons of what he does during the day and how much his family loves him, is primarily what the book is about. There are colorful pictures and black and white ones. Each one makes you want to squeeze this cute chubby thing!!! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start reading graphic novels or an older child that wants to learn about cartooning.

This book is so cute & relatable! As a pug lover (and dog owner), I really loved this comic with the stories it tells of dog ownership and the adventures of having a dog. The style of the comic is very simple, but clearly conveys the story! I follow @157ofgemma on Instagram so I was already familiar with Mochi, but he is just so lovable!

Thank you Gemma Gene, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. #LivingWithMochi #NetGalley

Having always been a dog lover this graphic novel was perfect. I have 2 VERY clingy dogs and so many of this rang true to my life. I even had my husband read this after I did and he agreed with so much of it. So cute! I definitely want to read more about Mochi!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you for the e-arc NetGalley. Sweet, sweet little Mochi. This adorable book about one snuggly little pug was just was the doctor ordered. Mochi reminds me of one of sweet little fur babies who recently passed. He was always by my side and was a total Mamas boy. This book and its illustrations brought so many smiles and so much joy. Pick it up for yourself and prepare to squeee.

Title: Living with Mochi
Author: Gemma Gene
Genre: Comic Collection
Pages: 228
Publication Date: 4/6/2021

This charming comic collection details the life of Mochi, a black rescue pug who lives with his Mami and Papi. The book is divided into multiple chapters like Love, Food and Sleep. Each chapter begins in color to give you an overview and then moves into black and white sketches. Each comic could stand alone but together gives you a good glimpse into Living with Mochi.

I found this comic collection to be delightful. As a dog owner myself, I could relate to so many of the comics. The book also does a beautiful job giving you a real feel for Mochi’s personality. The artwork in the comic is adorable and heartwarming. I particularly loved the comics in color at the beginning of each chapter.

I wish that the color section had been extended to all the comics. It was quite a drastic shift to go from these vivid comics to black and white. Some chapters had some colors in the comics throughout but there didn’t seem to be consistency.

There were a couple of gaps in the story. For example, there other dogs such as Violet that are included in the comics but we are not given their back story or who they belong to.

Overall, I would recommend this book to dog lovers, especially pug lovers. After a rough day, this comic collection put a big smile on my face and made me want to cuddle my dog.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley!

This was a quick & easy read.
It's a great "comic" about Mochi.
I'm sure most dog owners will find it very relatable.

I'd definitely purchase a copy and check out other books by the author.

This collection of comics on what it's like living with Mochi is adorable! I love dogs so much but I don't have one and this book made me want one even more. The art is great and I loved the various sections. The simplicity and relatability of these comics is what makes this book such a quick and enjoyable read. I also enjoyed that Mochi had a voice in some of these stories, which further emphasized his big personality and his owner's humor and character.

This was such a fun and adorable little read! As a dog owner myself I related to so many of the cartoon’s in this book, they reminded me so much of my own experiences with my dogs.

The book was slip up into different parts, and each part had a collection of comics corresponding to the topic it was focusing on. The coloured pages and illustrations at the start of each part were really endearing and served to give a more rounded profile about Mochi the pug which I enjoyed. The book was humorous and I enjoyed the voice that the author gave to Mochi. A very cute read overall!

This was so cute and relatable. But as I usually find with these kinds of books, they are just a bit too short for my liking.

Even though I’m more of a cat person, I enjoyed this book. My cat has a voice and so does Mochi (even if it has to be us pet parents that make the voice into comprehensible human words, usually saying something like: FOOD). The illustrations are well done and Mochi is adorable. The pug is kind of like a cat (like the author said): sleeping on things, not coming into the room and waiting for the parent to open it further, not liking cooling mats (I honestly don’t know any household pet that has like such a mat).
In conclusion, adorable read and cute drawings even for a cat person. It hasn’t convinced me that I want/need a dog though, I’ll stay with cats. No barking for nothing, can sleep alone, doesn’t need to go on walks that it doesn’t want to go on and probably more.

Gemma Gene is one of my favorite Instagram Accounts to follow. Mochi is a loveable pug designed after real life Mochi, Gemma's pug. I laughed constantly while reading this collection of comics. Long Live Mochi!

This collection of web comics is for anyone who has ever fallen in love with a dog (or, I would argue, any other furry friend). Architect / cartoonist Gemma Gené chronicles her life with her beloved pug, Mochi in these pages, and I got my whole animal-loving life. It’s divided into sections such as food, family, friends, sleep, etc. and each section provides hilarious, relatable comics about never being alone, whether that’s in the bathroom, at bedtime, or just chillin’ on the couch.

I loved this collection so much. I finished it in one sitting and immediately wanted more. I have a couple of friends with a pug, and I could see him in many of these illustrations. The art is precious. I laughed a lot, and I had heart eyes for their love more than once.

This one’s not out until April, but if you enjoy web comics and pups, definitely check it out.

If you like small dogs, you will probably find humor in this collection of web cartoons, popular online.

Mochi is a pug that acts a bit like a cat sometimes, and sometimes like a dog.

The author has the dog speaking English to her, though most things are what we would assume dogs would say to us if they could speak English.

The things that are covered are things that most keepers of dogs or cats are familiar with, such as sleeping on or close to her head, as is shown on the cover, not wanting to go for walks in the rain, and not wanting to eat the pet food as they should.

All of the stories are relatable, though there are no laugh out loud humor here. It more a nodding of the head and saying to yourself, yes, my dog does that too.

If you love this series, it is a nice collection to have in print.

4/5 :)

READING THIS MAKES ME WANT A DOG EVEN MORE!!

Seriously so adorable. If I were a dog, I would definitely have the same personality as Mochi :)

This was such a funny, chill and cute read. And it’s a pretty fast read so you can read it anytime for entertainment! The art style was cute and fit really well with the story. I also really liked the different sections highlighting Life With Mochi. Highly recommend to those who surrender to cuteness. :)

Pros: The cover of this book caught my attention. The illustrations/graphics throughout are adorable. This book is heartwarming for pet owners as it perfectly encapsulates the relationship between pet and pet owner/parent. Another huge pro is that this is a happy animal book (animal books are so often sad)! I had no idea that Mochi is famous on Instagram until the end of the book, but I can see why!

Cons: None that I can think of--this book is precious. The star rating isn't a reflection on anything this book does--I just save higher star ratings for extra special books.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel publishing for the opportunity to read this book!

Super cute! If you have a dog or a cat you’ll be able to see something of your pet’s cutest most endearing traits in these comics. I recommend for any dog (or cat ) lover!

A pug lovers delight! Author Gemma Gene started sketching pictures of her pug Mochi on her daily commute and sharing as a web comic - 157ofgemma. This book brings her story with Mochi together and is really a love story between owner and beloved pet charting their time together from puppyhood to adulthood. I wondered if this might appeal to my daughter who loves dogs (she is almost 7). She loved the illustrations but at 200+ pages, it's probably aimed at slightly older readers and dog lovers. Beautifully presented and illustrated and packed full of humour.

Review to come March 21st to blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just love dogs, and pugs especially, plus, I like comics, so I decided to check out what Living with Mochi was like! In the end I did have fun... but the dog was just too human-like/too much Garfield copy.

Meet Mochi, a pug baby (in the beginning). A spoiled little thing who loves food and sleep and who at times does some pretty cute things. We see how life is with a dog and it reminds me a lot of how cats are. Haha, I mean sleeping on laptops, on heads, hogging all the places in bed, and some other things.

I liked that the book was split up in parts and that each part had respective comics for that topic. From sleeping to food to family and more, and then comics following that topic.

I liked the coloured pages at the beginning of each new part/chapter. Those mostly showed the dog as a dog, and not as a Garfield copy.

But I am deducing points because the dog talked/acted human at times. It just didn't fit in my eyes and made the dog more like a Garfield copy, and really, in the end I just saw Garfield instead of a dog (and while I do love Garfield, even he gets too much). The mannerisms, the entitlement, the love for food, the eyes, the movement, the way he talked, it was just so Garfield. If I want Garfield, I will read that. I wanted fun dog comics featuring normal dogs, aka I would have rather have the dog silent and more animal-like.

So yeah, at times I liked this.. but at times I just didn't. And if a book is 224 pages... it can feel endless. I am giving it 2.5 stars in total. I would have loved to rate it higher, but the dog was just frustrating/annoying/too much a Garfield clone.
