TELL ME WHEN YOU FEEL SOMETHING is a Young Adult mystery that tackles some pretty difficult topics and does so with maturity and the grace needed to handle it. It follows the characters of Viv, Davida and Tim as they work as simulated patients for med school students. When Viv overdoses, Davida begins to question everything she knew about Viv and about her relationship with Tim. We’re taken through three different narrations to find out what happened. Davida suspects the overdose wasn’t by choice, Tim knows things but can’t share them and we’re shown Viv’s perspective from before the overdose, leading us through her time at the simulated patient program and her finding people she can and can’t trust.

This is an entertaining and quick read with numerous twists and turns, and gives us plenty of people to suspect along the way. It takes us through the journey Viv has while trying to recover from being an alcoholic, having parents that care more about fighting each other than about her, and about dealing with her father’s remarriage.

This book dealt with topics such as alcoholism and sexual assault, and handled it in a soft and delicate way that makes you feel what the character is feeling. The prose wasn’t difficult to follow and the storyline wrapped up nicely. I felt that this book was fairly unique, as the Simulated Patients program wasn’t one I’d seen done before.

Some of the present chapters with Tim and Davida seemed a bit null, as it was fairly simple and nothing much happened. Other than that, I enjoyed my read and would definitely pick up another of Grant’s books. This book definitely did need trigger warnings as the sexual assault storyline came at the end of the book and appeared quite hastily. I had no warning that this was going to happen, which some people would definitely need before going into this book.

Yeah…..
I tried, but i’m just not a YA thriller type of reader. So this just wasn’t a good match for me.

Although, i know YA thriller readers will very much enjoy this one!

when I first started reading this book, it started off really strong but toward the end fell flat to me. i was hooked on the mystery then certain things felt pointless towards the end. overall it felt a bit rushed with more time it really could have been better.

Tell me when you feel something is insanely messed up. We all feel that doctors have our best interests at heart and a job being a "simulated patient' seems like an easy way to earn some cash. It's all fun and games until someone ends up hurt and the questions start to pile up. Suspenseful and well plotted out. Kept me guessing right up to the end.

Gripping and Page-turner.

This book took a completely different turn than what I was expecting from the title and description and I was a bit thrown off. Overall it was a unique thriller and storyline. I do think the author should have included a warning before the book for sexual assault though. It was told from different points of view of the three main characters and had an alternating timeline leading up to what happened that night Viv was put in a coma. Other reviews I had read have said that the multiple characters POVs and the timelines were confusing to keep up with, but I felt like the author made it clear cut before each chapter started with the timestamps and the name of the character in bold black letters on the header making it easy to distinguish. I’m a big fan of thrillers that tell the storyline in this way. It makes piecing the puzzle together tougher and makes for twists that you often don’t see coming. The author of When You Feel Something carried it out perfectly! The police interviews from questioning people who had been in vivs life to understand her backstory give it a life-like authentic feel and fun add-in. I love when authors decide to do this with their novels. While it wasn’t my favorite thriller I’ve read by any means I still found it amusing, and my investment into vivs story made it a relatively fast read. It's worth an add to your tbr list if you are into thrillers that surround the medical community. The only thing I would have changed about this book was having the author tie up all of the loose ends at the end of the novel. She made the reader invest in the relationship between Tim and Davida and the idea that Tim cheated with Viv ruining their relationship, but we don’t hear if Davida and Tim ever got back together towards the end. It’s the same with the relationship of vivs mother Allie having hard feelings towards her ex-husband Ross and his new wife-to-be Katie and daughter Lulu. We are left without knowing if the wedding went through after reading about the arguments surrounding their marriage throughout the entirety of the novel.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an early reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book had SO much potential. While not bad (I'd say 2.5, but rounded down), i didn't feel like it was a book I'd be excited to tell people to read.

The book is intricate and tells the story through multiple POVs. It contains several trigger warnings (such as sexual assault and grooming), that I definitely think should have been addressed at the beginning. I really enjoyed the setting being placed in a med school with the main characters being simulated patients. The only character I felt had depth was Viv. The author could have rounded Davida and Tim out a bit more. And the ending did seem rushed.

The cover of the book was what really drew me to the book. Again, it wasn't bad, and I did appreciate the work the author did. But there are so many great thrillers out there that I can't say this book would top the list in my opinion.

I think I would have LOVED this book if I’d read it as a teen—it’s dark and intense in just the right way for, like, a 16 year old—but as an adult I think some of it just didn’t work for me. Which is fine! It isn’t necessarily written with me in mind. I recommended it to my younger sister who is in her teens and she loved it.

This book was, unfortunately, not for me. This book was super slow and boring, and the time jumping/multiple POVs really had me jumping around trying to keep up with everything.

Absolutely amazing novel. I was hooked from the first chapter until it was entirely taken aback that it was over. I’m definitely going to follower of this author, and will keep an eye on anything that they release. I find myself telling all of my friends to pick up this book, and keep an eye on upcoming works.

Overall I really liked this book! There were parts that felt a little predictable but it kept me on my toes. The ending made the book worth it. It felt original and that it did not plat into too many troupes. Overall I will recommend to my audience

This book was.. interesting, I was unsure as to what had happened to the MC most of the book and when I finally thought I figured it out, I was completely wrong. It had a lot of moving parts

3.5/5⭐ to Tell Me When You Feel Something by Vicki Grant. Thank you to Penguin Teen (Canada) for sending me an ARC copy to review! Before you read this book or go further please note trigger warnings for sexual assault and grooming. I'm not sure if the final print or audiobook has content warnings at the beginning of the book, but please be aware of this as it is a large topic in the plot and there is a fair amount of detail. That being said, this is a YA thriller told in a dual timeline about a group of teens who volunteer as simulation patents for med students and weird things start happening with this particular group of teens and of them even ends up in a coma. Is it an overdose that represents rock bottom for a troubled teen who was thought to be just fine? Or is it something more sinister? Overall, I am impressed by the way the author told the story. I did find myself getting attached to our MC and was definitely invested in figuring out what happened to her. The use of an alternating double timeline, one in the weeks and days leading up to "the incident" (the thing that we & her friends are trying to figure out), the other starting the day after, helps build and maintain suspense leading up to the reveal. I personally wasn't totally able to guess the who but had a slightly better idea of what the "what" might've been. I liked the use of multiple side characters, too, as details are revealed throughout the book that helped me get a greater sense of the situation as a whole and brought the story to life. As for the overall topic and big reveal of the book, I have mixed feelings. On one side, I know that it is important to bring awareness to sexual violence against female and feminine-presenting people and this book can help start conversations and build empathy. However, I am trying to decide if this book sensationalized it problematically for the sake of entertainment. I don't know the author's intentions behind this, her own experiences or history, nor do I have a personal history with SA. With this in mind, I would try to find some reviews from people who can relate to this aspect of the book to get a better picture. If you're looking for a YA thriller with Greys' Anatomy vibes check this one out after reading the trigger warnings.

I’m not sure where to start with Tell Me When You Feel Something-

I did enjoy it for the most part, it took me a bit to get used to the format and the alternating POVs and timelines though. It’s a good story and a good mystery, with enough heart in Viv and Davida’s stories to make you care.

As it went on though, I found myself really just wanting to get it over with. It felt drug out as far as what happened to Viv and Davida trying to figure it out, that I just wanted it to be done with.

I wish it wasn’t so dragged out as far as the plot, and I wish that there had been a bit more resolution to the ending. The major plot was resolved but it felt like there was so much left open or ignored and it just left me feeling like of bland about the ending. So, I’d say it was a good book but bad execution for me personally!

I read the around 20 percent of this months ago and haven't picked it up since. I just don't have any interest in finishing it anymore.

The perfect after-school job turns deadly for teens working as "simulated patients" at the local med school. Everyone has something to hide and no one is safe in this contemporary YA thriller that exposes the dark reality of #MeToo in the world of medicine.

TELL ME WHEN YOU FEEL SOMETHING started off strong, but eventually was unable to sustain my interest, I also feel that this book needs LOADS of trigger warnings. This is definitely a difficult read.

Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for my review copy.

Honestly I don’t have an interest in reading this book anymore and I want to be more selective with what I request.

This took a VERY long time for me to finish. I truly wish there had been trigger warnings at the start of the book for what would happen in it. There was so much detail that I had to put the book down and give myself deep breaths to get under control. I was all in for the characters but it was hard to get through. Also, yes, there's mystery but I would not compare this to Karen McManus. Her style is so different from this book and it would not be a comp I would use. For one, McManus' books are towards a bit lighter fare even dealing in a murder mystery. This was not.
