This was had more dark social issues than I was expecting of a YA novel! I enjoyed the telling from the different narratives and was definitely surprised by the thrilling twist at the end. The setting of a medical school simulation lab really intrigued me and is what ultimately made me apply for an ARC.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Tell Me When You Feel Something is told in multiple POVs and tells the events taking place before and after the main character, Viv, is put in a coma after an overdose that has suspicious circumstances around it.

This book was kind of a mess. I've been on a big YA thriller/mystery kick lately, but this book just wasn't what I wanted it to be.

The story is told through multiple POVs, which isn't normally an issue for me, but they were told in a mix of first- and third-person, which I thought was odd. There was also a strange mix of present and past tense being used. Even though the story was told in a mix of past and present timelines, I didn't think that choice was necessary, and it often took me out of the story.

The pacing was also incredibly slow. Normally the mix of short chapters, multiple POVs, and mixed format (between narrative and police interviews) increases a story's pacing, but for some reason, it had the opposite effect with this book, and the story took me days to get through.

The ending I found both unsatisfying and predictable; I had seen it coming for a while. And I was never particularly invested in any of the characters or their arcs, which caused me to almost DNF the book a few times simply because I just couldn't care about them no matter how hard I tried.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this book. There's a lot of potentially triggering content in this book, but there are no warnings provided in the story, and I don't think this content was handled in the way it should've been.

TW: alcoholism, overdose, sexual assault, suicidal thoughts

So… I was pretty excited to read this book. I didn't really have any expectations, however it deals with important topics, and I don't read that much thrillers, so I was curious.
But things escalated quickly for me, and not in a good way. I didn't care for any of the characters, and I thought things happened way too slowly. Moreover, I found everything really predictable and the plot-twits were ill-timed.
Also, can we talk about how selfish and self-centered every. single. adult. is? Not one is good (except maybe for Stu, but that's it) and really, this is disheartening.

This book wasn't it for me. It's supposed to be a thriller, but I didn't get any thriller's vibes, and as for the 'mystery' part, well I didn't find it mysterious either. If you're looking for a good YA thriller, you won't find it in Tell Me When You Feel Something.

I was disappointed in this book.

It was too slow and I found myself not even being able to finish it. That is rare for me.

I couldn't put this down. I needed to know what happened to Viv. I needed to know what happened that night. Kept me on my toes until the very end.

TW: sexual assault, rape, grooming, alcoholism, drugs

This book grabbed my attention from the beginning. I really enjoyed the writing style, with the short chapters and the time jumps. I liked reading the book from the two different perspectives, past and present tense.

I was invested in the story and wanted to find out what happened to Viv. I was shocked by the ending, I didn’t see it coming at all until I got towards the end of the book.

The book was a bit confusing at times and I sometimes forgot about who the characters were because they were skipped over quite quickly a lot of the time. But I still quite enjoyed the book and loved the concept of it.

NOTE: There were some errors in my Kindle version of the book. The paragraphs were separated incorrectly and the transcripts in the story were out of order, which did confuse me and make it harder to follow the story.

i wanted to love it so bad, i loved the idea of the book. i just feel like the characters were extremely bland. it took me ages to read because i couldn’t really get into it. also my dogs name is viv so that really through me off lol. overall i enjoyed it, but it wasn’t anything off the charts.

Tell Me When You Feel Something was equal parts drama, intrigue and mystery. I couldn’t put this books down until I knew the whole story behind Viv. I could totally picture this as a movie or show as well. Something to think about...! This book will be a huge hit, I just know it!

Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

Tell Me When You Feel Something did a great job of portraying this scenario which is all too familiar in our society in a way that is very immersive and relatable to readers. We witness Vivienne, the protagonist, deteriorate from this kind and bubbly young girl with feuding parents into a person in a shockingly different predicament. Someone in a very dangerous, very real, and very scary situation.

The way that Grant illustrated this transition from start to finish of the novel was very effectively done. Although it may have been easy to predict the ending about 70% into the novel, the most engrossing element of the book was definitely the unraveling of Vivienne's situation and her overall development as a character.

This book does take a hot minute to pick up. The sinister themes promised in the synopsis aren't apparent until about 50% into the book as per the markings on my Kindle. Things unfold quite quickly from thereon.

I did notice that there were some errors in my Kindle version of this novel. Some sections were highlighted in red, paragraphs were separated incorrectly and elements of the transcripts throughout the novel were out of order. Unfortunately, this did make the story harder to follow at times and detracted from the overall reading experience.

I received a copy of this book from Penguin Teen and Netgalley.

The beginning of this book was very strong but by the time I got a third through it kind of sputtered and never seemed to get back on track for me.

The writing is excellent. The plot kind of trying to be really shocking if that makes sense?

***Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a free arc of this book in exchange for an honest review***

When Viv takes drugs at a party and winds up in a coma, Davida is shocked. She never thought Viv was one to take drugs. She tries to tell this to the police, but they are more interested in finding out who supplied Viv than considering Viv might not have taken drugs voluntarily. As the plot unfolds, there are more questions than answers mostly involving their part-time jobs working as a simulated patient for a medical school. Is the job really as it seems or is something more sinister happening?

The story is told through three POVs. There are also excerpts of police interviews throughout the book, reminding me of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (which I LOVED). I appreciated these inclusions because they added an extra layer of detail and made it feel like I was submerged in a real mystery. The story is told from three different perspectives and follows different timelines, giving readers details about what happened in the time leading up to the party and after. Viv’s POV is especially compelling in comparison to Davida’s because of how much it reveals. Davida makes a lot of assumptions about Viv, believing she knows who Viv is, but as the plot unfolds we see how many secrets Viv has kept from her friends. I didn’t feel as connected to Tim’s POV, and there were times when the voices of the three MCs blended a bit. Overall, Tell Me When You Feel Something is a great mystery with a lot of twists and turns, keeping readers guessing until the end.

NOTE: I read a lot of books that deal with hard themes and topics, and while I don’t rely on trigger warnings to help me decide which books to read, it would be helpful to have one at the beginning of this book to warn others.

An interesting premise and truly unique setting (a training hospital where people role play patients for trainee doctors to practice their consulting skills), however, this book did lose me a bit in the middle, as the true plot takes some time to emerge. I'm glad that I persevered, however, and ultimately enjoyed this

I have some mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the different povs. I feel like it lacked feeling with the chracters although the timelines were quite interesting. It took me awhie to get through this book because I lost interest. But I’m glad I stuck with it! There were some things I did not see coming. Also needs to have trigger warnings especially for YA.

Tell Me When You Feel Something is a great starting book to get into YA mystery. The idea and plot was interesting enough for me to be engaged to the characters. Especially to Viv. Though I find it hard to differentiate among the three (Viv, Tim, and Davida). Even if the characters are lacking, I really want to see the ending and twists. One thing I like about is you can tell the author knows how to write a mystery, the suspense is there and it's great that you could guess the ending.

Content warnings of this book includes: drug abuse, grooming, pedophilia, self harm, rape, eating disorders.

Tell Me When You Feel Something has a premise that is compelling. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy! However, I didn't find the story as compelling as I would have liked. The voices of the three characters (Viv, Davida, and Tim) weren't as distinct as they could have been, making me have to stop and remind myself who was the narrator at any given time. It also seemed like there were too many subplots that didn't all get resolved.

On the other hand, I did enjoy the plotting of the mystery, and though I suspected the culprit, I wasn't sure prior to the reveal. Ultimately, I give this one three stars. It won't be one I booktalk often and will be a secondary purchase for us.

The book has a great story and hooks you into what has happened and what is going on. It starts with a mystery and that’s where my trouble with this book is. You spend time with these characters and enjoying the story but actual mystery this story has comes so late, that I forget there is one. I would recommend this story is you want to see real characters going through real struggles. They are all likable and fun to experience. It’s just unfortunate that you get a hundred pages in you still feel no closer to understanding what’s going on. It feels like the actual mystery comes and goes very quickly and you have no time to suspect or guess. I still give it a positive rating for the characters but a negative for any suspense.

Oh how I wanted to absolutely love this, but. Oh how I unfortunately did not.

This book had one hell of an interesting premise, and I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. I could not wait to pick this one up, so sure that I was going to be absolutely blown away by the story. But sadly, despite a unique plot and a compelling opening chapter, the book ending up falling flat for me, and didn’t live up to the hype that I conjured in my mind.

This story had all the right ingredients: unique plot line, mystery, and drama, but for some reason they just didn’t quite blend together correctly.

Still, despite all that, I still found some aspects of this book good, and don’t regret reading it. I loved the creativity of the story, and the writing was very good. It was just missing that certain something that I can’t quite put my finger on.

I definitely feel that a lot of people will enjoy this book, so I would still recommend giving it a go, as the writer is definitely talented! Although this one didn’t work for me, I would still pick up another book from this author in the future.

Were do I begin. This book was absolutely amazing! I could not stop reading it. I thought at first the style of the way it was written was going to be a bit bothersome but it actually was very creative and helped the story become more alive.
I love how this story does not get overly dramatic and presents its self in a real life situation. I felt for all the characters involved because of the way it was written. You get to feel for everyone and see different points of view through their eyes.
The story unfolds so nicely and comes together at the end with a couple twists in the plot then a surprise. I really enjoyed this book and plan to check out more by this author. I am so glad I got the chance to read this. So thank you for allowing me access to read this book before it is released and to review it. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Penguin Teen for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
I really liked this book. A party leaves one girl in a coma and the others wondering what happened. I don't want to give much away until the book is published in June.

What I can say about this book is there is a lot going on. It keeps you engaged and the characters are well written. I do want to state that there is trigger warning with sexual assualt. Vicki Grant created relatable characters who the reader will connect with although at times you may hate them.

The sexual assult and the substance abuse is addressed in a classy and understanding way. Its always a thin line when authors tackle that subject. I've seen that it either is addressed too much or not enought. but in this book its just right.

The ending was a little messy, but that didn't take away from the story.
