An enjoyable new series with an interesting storyline involving three women who were all married to a villainous bigamist.
The first book was about wife number three, Celeste Montgomery, and Owen Gregory, the investigator looking into the murder of said husband, Erasmus Montgomery.
While the romance was good, there came a point where I was more curious to what the story was between the other characters who were introduced. I remained interested in Owen and Celeste's romance but was definitely distracted by the other two wives in the picture.
This was a good introduction but I am eagerly waiting Pippa and Leighton's story as well as Abigail and the Duke of Gilmore's!

Quite the unexpected ending for The Unexpected Wife! What a great beginning to a new series! A murdered bigamist with three wives, each with a valid reason to do him in. Each wife living in a different city.

Fantastic character development as these wives meet and get to know each other; suspect and protect each other. Add in a sexy investigator, a caring Earl and a protective Duke and Ms. Michaels has the perfect who done it for a romantic series.

I loved how Michaels drew these women and their men together all due to the selfish character of one man. She spices it up with a bit of sex and places you in the mix while trying to determine what really happened.

I would probably pick up the book after reading the description on the cover. It’s a paperback book and many libraries don’t purchase paperbacks but receive as donations. The story line was different and interesting—don’t see many books involving bigamy. Interesting turn of events in the ending of the book that I didn’t expect.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

For Celeste Montgomery, discovering that the husband she had been forced to marry against her will was dead, and that she was in fact not even legally married, was both a shock, and something to be overjoyed about. On the one hand, she was free from the hovel he had put her in, and from his lacklustre attentions he put upon her. However, because Erasmus was a bigamist, there's two other wives for her to meet, and the scandal of his bigamy to overcome. Heading to London with Owen Gregory, the investigator who discovered the truth behind Erasmus' deception, Celeste hopes she can find some form of friendship with her fellow wives, and also maybe look more into the chemistry between herself and Owen.

This is the 6th of Jess' books that I've read, and I think it might be my favourite. The whole premise behind the story was fantastic, and learning more about each of the three wives - Celeste, Pippa, and Abigail - was lovely. Celeste had had a difficult childhood, with parents who never cared for her - only for which important family she married into - and then her marriage was horrific, for all the time Erasmus spent with her. He was only after her dowry, and when he got it, he left, but not before taking his conjugal rights so the marriage couldn't be annulled. Now 'widowed' she has some freedom, and being in London with Abigail, Pippa, and Owen, she could explore it further.

You might've thought that because of them all being sort of 'rivals' to Erasmus' affection, that the three wives would hate each other, but rather the situation turns into one of sisterly affection, and I adored seeing them build this friendship together. Like I said, learning about each wife was lovely, and I'm glad that the other two books with follow Pippa and Abigail's own stories. We've already met their love interests too. The Earl of Leighton (Erasmus' elder brother) and the Duke of Gilmore clearly have feelings for the other wives, and I cant wait to see them all have their own happy endings. Celeste and Owen definitely deserved the ending they got, and I really enjoyed the added mystery around what actually happened to Erasmus, and was there a 4th woman there too? The fact that the other books in the series will be released within months of each other is fantastic. This is definitely a series I can't wait to continue.

Murder, Bigamy, and love are the plots in this book by Jess Michaels.
Celeste is living a quite life when she suddenly discovers that her husband has been murdered. Not only that he has multiple wives.
Owen has been hired to investigate the murder. He is attracted to Celeste.
How will this story come together?
Jess Michaels has written another winner in this book.

New series by Jess Michaels and oh boy, the first book is awesome. The premise of the book is amazing! I didn't pay too much attention to the blurb, so I was pleasantly surprised by the story. The mystery is actually really intriguing and I really didn't expect this ending. Since you are reading a regency romance, you don't pay too much attention to the mystery and clues, at least I didn't, so when I reached 85% I was like, wait what?! and everything went down delightfully. The characters were also really lovable. I loved the fact that everyone was open with each other and there were just a few secrets kept, I mean how honest can you be in a book?!
I read it in one sitting and I really enjoyed it.
I can't wait reading the next installments.

Investigator Owen Gregory is on the case of a murder of an Earl's brother. The more clues Owen uncovers, the stranger the case becomes. He's found 3 wives and he travels to the village of wife number 3, Celeste Montgomery. From the moment Owen meets Celeste, he feels an instant connection with the young widow. He decides against his better judgment and returns to London with Celeste in tow. His reasoning is that she may help with the case. Celeste Montgomery has been ignored all her life first by her parents and then by her dead husband or her non-husband because she wasn't legally married to him. When Owen asks her to travel to London, she jumps at the chance to leave the small village behind and to spend more time with the gentle investigator. Can they keep their relationship professional or will emotions carry them both away even if it jeopardizes the case?

I'm a fan of Ms Michaels. She always has unique story lines and this one was the first of its kind that I've read. I loved Owen. He was so honorable and tried so very hard to keep his relationship with Celeste professional, but the more time he spends in her company, the more he likes her. Celeste's character was an unexpected surprise. She was not the weak and fragile creature Owen first meets and I loved her fiesty personality. The author does a great job teasing out the details about the other two wives as well. Be warned though, there are graphic sex scenes in this book. I can't wait to see what happens to them!

I voluntarily read the advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.

I LOVED IT.

The first thing that hooked me was the summary and let me tell you that it lives to the level of, this book has a good summary but the books makes the summary look like a fool.

Our protagonists met due a fatal casualty... Such as the husband of the protagonist being murder but also HE HAD TWO OTHER WIVES AND IS NOT AN SPOILER, he is the messenger of the news so they met and they called each other eye but their circumstances made it complicated for them.

He offers her to go with him to London to solve the case and since I run a no-spoilers policy, I am not telling you what happens but I can tell you that this history is Netflix worthy, it has everything, action, drama, romance, female empowerment and is so easy to follow, which make it so good in my book.

I highly recommend this one.

Celeste Montgomery can't believe it when investigator Owen Gregory shows up to deliver mindboggling news: Her husband has been murdered…and he was also a bigamist, with two wives before her. Owen determines Celeste couldn’t have been involved with the killing, and asks her to travel to London with him to meet the other wives and possibly provide insight into the case.

This is the first book in The 3 Mrs. series. I liked that the plot was unexpected and not something I had read before. Celeste is the unfortunate third wife and was forced, by her parents, to marry Erasmus Montgomery. She had no affection for him and only saw him a handful of times during their short "marriage." The story spends a good amount of time on the wives, and I felt as though more development could have gone towards Owen, the hero. The investigation unravels slowly, but picks up at the end with a worthwhile conclusion. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.

Tropes: Bluestocking, Forced Proximity

Jess Micheals is an author who brings many twists to the regency/historical romance works.

This new series is no surprise, has her strong stamp of romance with murder mystery and a bigamist with three wives. The heroine is Celeste the Third wife of Erasmus Montgomery the wayward second son of the late Earl of Leighton. Owen Gregory is an investigator hired to trace the background of Erasmus, as he has an unsavory reputation and he is trying to court the very young sister of the Duke of Gilmore. Through the investigation, Erasmus is found dead and the three wives are discovered. Subsequently all three are suspects.

Both the Duke of Gilmore and The current Earl of Leighton (the brother of the dead Erasmus) have vested interests and the story takes off into investigation and romance.

Celeste is the unfortunate third wife forced to marry Erasmus and she has no regards for the dead man, having had unfortunate experience with him in the short duration of her marriage. She is the most abused and abandoned of the three wives.

Slowly romance brews between Celeste snd Owen who helps his investigation and this is where Ms Micheal’s regencies tend to seem quite fast. The characters are bold and seem to be more real people than the haute ton pampered and protected misses.

Without revealed the suspense, there is yet another woman in Erasmus’ life and she is the key to solving the crime.

A good read for Ms. Michael’s fans. And surely there are stories for Pippa and Abagail the other two wives.

I have always enjoyed this authors books, so I was excited to receive an ARC to review. Celeste and Owen were quite the couple, sparks flew from the beginning and the romance was wonderful. The mystery was great and unexpected. There were also many clues that will probably be answered in the next 2 books of this series. 5 stars.

The Unexpected Wife, is full of a lot of twists and turns. I loved the ending. It sets up the next two books in the series perfectly.

The entire premise of this book took me by surprise. I did not read the blurb before I read it, I don't need to read a blurb to know I am going to want to read a book by Jess Michaels. I was completely shocked, and I LOVED it.

Let me first just say, what a clever idea for a series! I have never read anything like it. I also never saw the twist coming. This one really really got me shook! I will not spoil it, but this story is absolutely amazing. Not only are the characters excellent, the story well written, and the sex sizzling, the plot is truly awesome. I cannot say enough good things about it. This book was the escape I needed.

Owen is a great hero. I almost always love investigators as heroes, and this holds true here. Owen is smart and logical, two things I admire. Celeste is also intelligent and not shy at all about showing it. I also loved the characters of Harriet and Lady Lena as well. They intrigued me, and I hope we see more of them throughout this series. The other wives are both excellent characters. I cannot wait for their stories!

Just go ahead and plan on reading this book the *second* it comes out. This whole series is going to be amazing.

I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review

Sweet and spicy, with one of the more affable heroes and daring heroines I’d seen in a while. Can’t wait to read more from this author

This was different than the usual. Celeste was pushed in to marriage she didn't want by her mother but is informed by Owen a investigator that not only is she dead but he's a bigamist and she's the third wife. He married her for her dowry. She ends up going to London with Owen to help with the investigation and meets the other wives and they become friends which I like. This was a quick read and I felt Owen and Celeste was missing a little chemistry to really draw me in but I enjoyed the story.
