This is the story of three women (Daisy, Sage, and Cassidy) who are linked through a man who was father to two of the women, and step-father to the third for a time. For reasons only known to each of them, they were never close to Daisy, who was Wallace’s first child from the love of his life, but who died when Daisy was young. He then married Joanne, Sage’s mother, but that didn’t last too long. Daisy really wanted a new mom and sister, but Sage and her mother were horrid to Daisy, and treated her meanly. Joanne and Wallace had Cassidy together, but once Joanne and Wallace divorced, Joanne made Cassidy choose between her and Daisy, and basically pushed her to hate Daisy as well. Joanne acts like a spoiled toddler/bully throughout much of the book, and is generally a horrid human being. Somehow, her daughters have surpassed her maturity level, but they still struggle at times with self-sabotage. Cassidy is afraid to attempt a successful relationship, because she has never witnessed one. Sage has gone through three husbands, and used to be engaged to Jordan, who is now married to Daisy. However, Daisy and Jordan are having a bit of trouble in their marriage, and Daisy is trying to come to terms with it all.

This book is an interesting study of the dynamics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. There’s a lot of fear at times, which tends to hinder happiness. Assumptions were made when all three girls were younger, and they have to rethink things as they get to know each other for the first time as adults. There is a moderate amount of tension throughout this book, as readers wonder whether Jordan and Daisy will be able to salvage their marriage. Cassidy is so fearful of love with her boyfriend, Desean that she fell off of a mountain when he proposed! Readers will wonder if she can get herself together to accept the love he is offering. And Sage is so afraid of loving someone, that she self-sabotages every relationship she has ever been in. Will she ever let herself truly love anyone? The pace remains steady throughout this book, as we get to observe the interactions of each of these main characters with each other and with others. Readers get to be the fly on the wall during each of these interactions.

Susan Mallery creates unforgettable characters. She’s very good at it. Some of her characters grow and mature over the course of the book, while others get pettier and never grow up. Through it all, Wallace keeps trying to do the right thing, and acts like a guardian angel to all three women. This book will have readers thinking about these characters long after the book is finished. There were parts of this book that were delightful, and other parts that made this reader upset with the choices that were made. There are some hurt feelings along the way, and some really stupid choices at times. However, the final outcome makes this a satisfying read.

Daisy, Sage and Cassidy are stepsisters who haven’t been together in years. Sage moves back to town and Cassidy moves in with Daisy while healing from an accident. In the midst of all this Daisy and her husband are separated.
There’s a lot of old hurts and insecurities in this book.
I didn’t really care for two of the girls in the beginning but as the book goes on I liked them more.
I enjoyed the story, I read it in one day.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

This is a book about family and love and how complicated that can be, or in some examples, how easy it can also be. This is not a romance. Although there is a bit of romance included, the main focus is on a modern day family and all the drama that comes with it. There are times of laughter, heartache, anger, sadness and joy and everything that comes between.
A "need to turn the page" story that I read very quickly, losing some sleep so I could see what came next. This was a story full of self-reflection, making situations better, apologizing for past mistakes and growing closer. When I came to where the story took a turn, I was thinking "no! don't do it! walk away! How can you do that now!" and was really disappointed they didn't heed my warning! A bittersweet ending brought it all together.
This book shows Susan Mallery's ability to write a real life story. To make the characters and feelings real. To draw you into the setting and make you feel like you are there. If you have read Mallery's previous books this is the next one you need to read. If you are a new Mallery reader then I recommend this one be your first! The Stepsisters will be available May 25, 2021.

Thanks to HARLEQUIN – Trade Publishing and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this wonderful book!

A story of estranged step sisters, who come back together to make it through the trials and tribulations that life is throwing at them.
More of a 3.5 but I'll rate it 4 just because.

A good read, kept me entertained although, for me, there really wasn't a huge plot going on. Just one semi dramatic event at the end that had been building up since the beginning. A pretty much mindless read, but I would recommend it if someone is just looking for light and easy, no dramatic flair.

The Stepsisters is the story of three sisters. Daisy is a sensible nurse with two children. Her husband has just abruptly left her. She unexpectedly runs into her estranged stepsister Sage. Then her other estranged stepsister, the baby of the family, moves into her home to recover from surgery.

I love Susan Mallery's books and had really looked forward to a relaxing beach read. This book is not one of the author's heartwarming contemporary romances. The tone was darker and more serious and the characters, other than Daisy, were not sympathetic or likable. It is well written, as always by this author, but different from what I was anticipating.

Thank you to Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book. I love multigenerational family stories and this one was no exception. The way the three sisters grew up it was no wonder they were estranged. The mother/step-mother was a complete witch that didn't deserve the children she had. It was a great story to read how these three sisters find their way back to each other and are able to come together to have a wonderful relationship. The three women all extremely strong in their own way all had demons that they had to fight in order to come together and it was heartwarming to watch this happen. I was hooked on this story from the start until the end and I recommend this book highly to anyone who enjoys this type of story.

Susan Mallery delivers another exceedingly satisfying women's fiction title, full of complicated family and romantic relationships. Three sisters (including both step and half sisters) who have either never or seldom gotten along find themselves in close quarters and negotiating new ways of seeing both themselves and their family connections. Serious mistakes occur along the way, but in the end, much is learned and gained for all of them. Recommended.

Daughter,Stepsister and Half sister, Honest, open emotions between the sisters, true raw emotions sister.Lots of old issues but after Cassidy is badly hurt in an accident and Thier Dad asks her to allow her to recover in Daisy's home. Having her come to stay during stressful time for Daisy but she steps up. It's been 20 yrs since they were all together. What happens next is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Emotions run rampant . Honest and raw at times but great story and touches of Humor keep it from being a downer. Great
read!

The Stepsisters is about a blended family: Daisy is the daughter, Cassidy the half sister and Sage the stepsister. Cassidy and Sage were awful to Daisy growing up because they were ehealous and also their mother, Joanne, was a b*tch telling them Daisy was the problem and to hate her. As adults who haven’t seen each other in almost 20 years, Cassidy is now living with Daisy (who has a failing marriage) after an accident leaves her badly injured and after another failed marriage Sage is back in town as well and visiting. Past drama and lain unfolds as their all co-mingle their lives. They learn that things may not always been as they seem but that family is everything.

This is not your typical Susan Mallery book. Having not read a book like this from her yet may be why I enjoyed it so much. I love seeing an author stretch themselves in new directions! I LOVED how honest, open, and self aware the characters are. How they own up to their faults as time goes on and work on making themselves better people and not making the same mistakes again. Gosh Mallery is good at writing these complicated relationships especially with women!

I really wanted to like this book, but just couldn't. I didn't like any of the characters and couldn't feel empathy for any of them. I thought the story was interesting, but found myself skimming here and there.

So why three starts? I did finish it, which I often do not do when I am not drawn into a book. I was interested in knowing what happened next - enough that I kept reading.

I do want to thank the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC. It obviously did not impact my review.

Susan Mallery has exceeded expectations in The Stepsisters. Anyone with sisters will relate to this story.

This book was light and pleasant, like many of Mallery’s latest books. If you’re looking for a predictable light read, this is a book for you.

Not my favorite Susan Mallery book. I’m definitely in the minority with my 2 star rating but this story fell flat for me and I could not connect with any of the characters. I didn’t care for any of the stepsisters nor their mother’s for that matter. Had a hard time finishing it so DNF at 50%. Just not for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my review.

I’ve enjoyed all of the Susan Mallery books I have read and this one is no exception. I recommend this book, it is light and pleasant and everything turns out ok for everyone in the end. I wouldn’t mind at all reading another book about these characters!

This was exactly the book I wanted to read right now. It is heartfelt, funny, honest, and hard to put down. Daisy has a successful job, marriage, and continues to live from a family inheritance. While she has an estranged relationship with her two stepsisters, events require that they evaluate the past and look forward to their future. I loved every character and was sad when I had finished this novel.

Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of this novel.

I was enticed by the summary and was very pleased with the book. The typical sister rivalry was taken to extreme levels but blossoms into a friendship over time. I was very satisfied with this book. Thankyou for my copy Netgalley!

I was drawn to the book by the cover and then the synopsis. The book did not disappoint. It's a great summer read. I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Susan Mallery wrote a heartbreaking story of three sisters who need to find out who they are and why they fight for what they love.

I very much enjoyed this story of two women who were once step sisters but are now thrust into each other’s orbit once again, and not necessarily through their own choosing. This is a story of family ties and their meaning.
