This is a fast pace book with plenty of twists and turns and is the second trilogy in the badass witch world. In Badass vigilantly Kera is forced to make some tough decisions she can no longer fight alone. What will this ultimately mean and can she still keep her city safe? Read it and find out! This can be read out of order but Fir character backstory I recommend starting with how to be a Badass Witch.

This novel follows numerous characters who all have magical abilities. Keira is a new mage who also works as a bartender and protects the streets as a masked vigilante. James and a female mage are out trying to protect the public doing whatever they feel is necessary, even if it destroys lives. There are a few other SC that I forget.

The plot was okay with plenty of action. However, I couldn’t fall into the story as the action couldn’t save the blandness of the storyline. I found the main storyline unbelievable and boring.

The characters really ruined the story for me as I HATED THEM ALL. Kera was unbelievable as she felt too perfect. She was too kind, too smart, too hardworking and just too everything. It felt like she never did any bad. Her personality was very bland and flat, I would have liked to see more emotion from him. Chris, her boyfriend, was so judgemental and mean. He judged every woman on her looks which annoyed me. All the male characters felt misogynistic which angered me, sexism and misogyny are instant deal breakers for me.

I tried to finish the story but I just didn’t have it in me to continue after chapter 15. This is the sixth book I’ve read by Michael Anderle. I didn’t like this novel or [book:Death Becomes Her|27419285] but his Cryptid Assassin series wasn’t bad.

Thank you to NetGalley and LMBPN Publishing for this ARC.

With this being a first in a series, there really should have been more character development. So many aspects of actions/reactions with the characters felt as though the reader should already know their back story. I really enjoyed the action sequences; however, the romance and emotional struggles of each character left me wondering what I was missing. Overall, I really did enjoy the writing style and had trouble putting this book down. This is definitely an author I want to read more from!

DNF 25% No Rating
I really struggled to get into this book, I just couldn't engage with the story or characters. Maybe something to do with the multiple third person perspectives, it felt detached.

Great cover!

I didn't realize that this wasn't technically Book 1 of a series but is technically book 4 of a different series. This was my fault for not doing more research. I don't think it would be fair to give a review when I wasn't properly introduced to the world (by reading the previous books which I assume have some important world building) that might be missing from this book

I'm giving 3 stars because I didn't finish the book once I realized it wasn't the start of a series.

I think this was a “it’s not you, it’s me” situation. I just could not get into this book. With so many books out there if I give a book an hour of my time and still am not feeling it, I move on. Once I realized this was going to be a DNF, I checked the reviews to find this was actually a spin-off of a series. This makes total sense! I could see if I had read the initial series this book would have been more gripping. I will certainly circle back to this author and read some of the earlier books, as the main character certainly had promise.

I have been wanting to read a book by this author, so I was excited to read this one. I dived in right away and I could tell this was not the first book. I did some looking and yes it was the first book, but it was a continuation/new trilogy from another series. I continued on, and I figured I could just pick up what I needed because there was some backstory. I liked the writing, and I did find the story interesting by the end. However, before I continue this series, I am going to go back and read the other books to see what I’m missing because I felt that I couldn’t give the story the recommendation it really deserved because I missed the first series. For now, I give this 3 ½ star rounded up to 4. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I'm finally, FINALLY finished reading How To Be A Basass Vigilante: Book One.

I received an e-copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. While I'm grateful, this book is unfortunately not for me.

It should have been made clear that is a continuation of another series. I felt like I had missed out on half the story by not reading the How To Be a Badass Witch series. This book is marketed as book one of a new series, but in reality, it reads like book four of the previous series. If I had known this, I would not have agreed to start with this book. Reading the previous series is crucial for fully understanding the background information here. Otherwise, you're thrown into the deep and left wondering what you missed - like I was. I don't understand why the series is divided. It's confusing.

The main focus of the story is Kera - a young woman who discovered her magical ability through a published grimoire. A powerful organization is now seeking to either add Kera to their coven, or eliminate her. They send an undercover agent to assess - and capture - Kera. Kera does not become aware of the threat until the end of the novel.

What I Liked
🦋 There is a very expansive view with lots of different perspectives. Rather than one straight storyline, the book follows various characters and how their stories entwine.
🦋 There is so much detail put into the plot.
🦋 There is very good worldbuilding. Everything is described wonderfully.
🦋 The characters are all well formed (even if several are very unlikeable).
🦋 There are people from several different cultures present.
🦋 The magic system is very well developed.

What I Didn't Like
🦋 I really did not like some of the comments made about women in the book. While they are not incredibly offensive, they are still grating. For example, "most women lie". What a generalisation. Chris' friend Ted did not need to be in this book. All he did was annoy me with his insulting comments and arrogant attitude. I hate him so much. Why is he even here?
🦋 Mother LeBlanc and James also did not need to be here. They seemed to just be a side story. Maybe their story is going to become relevant again? I honestly don't know.
🦋 James condescendingly corrects the English of non-native speakers. It is not their first language, and yet they are speaking near perfect English. But James - who can't speak a word of this person's language - still feels the need to butt in to correct them.
🦋 I have never seen so many characters talking to themselves, especially in the one book. It's so random. I'm also not a fan of the inner dialogue, especially Pavla's. Her thoughts are very stiff.
🦋 So much time is spent describing food, and Chris focuses way too much on what his girlfriend is eating.
🦋 We are left with more questions, and hardly no answers. There wasn't much progress made by the characters.

I think there are lots of people that will absolutely love this book, but sadly I am not one of them. The author is genuinely very good at writing: he is very clear and descriptive. But it just didn't grip me. In all honesty, I struggled to finish the book.

I can actually imagine How to Be A Badass Vigilante as a television show. I think I would find it easier to digest in that format.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and LMBPN Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately, for me, this book was not it. This is a spinoff (or continuation?) series to How to be a Badass Witch, a trilogy that, while I have not read, follows this same main character, Kera. She found a copy of a book by that same name and has become a vigilante witch who also bartends on the side. She's juggling dealing with those things and trying to manage a relationship with someone who has recently learned the truth about her abilities.

For me, the dialogue and characters fell incredibly flat and stilted. Many of the conversations or internal monologues just didn't feel natural to me, and also actively made me dislike characters. Chris, in particular, came off as an arrogant ass who was constantly focused on other peoples' weight and what they were eating. I'm not sure if it was deliberate or an inherent bias of the author, but I ended up highlighting multiple lines that came off as extremely judgmental of random peoples' eating habits (including Kera's, who had to eat to fuel her magic and was losing weight anyway). Several lines also weren't blatantly misogynistic but just felt....off and definitely leaned in that direction.

While I finished this book and didn't dislike it so much to give it a one star, it still only got two from me and I don't think I will be continuing on in the series, unfortunately.

I haven't read anything by Michael Anderle and I can't say I am going to go searching for anymore of the author books. Its not that the book wasn't good it was boring either. The book lacked the creativity I had expect when it came to the title How to Be a Bass Vigilante. Readers get action and the supernatural story line it just lacks the punch needed to make this reader want to read more by this author. Several characters ruin the story while others have no point in the story. At time readers might find themselves skipping pages to get back to the main story or what readers hope is the main story.

This book is one of the reason I stay away from paranormal stories. They do not fill a void in the world of story telling. The story is just there.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Michael Anderle How to Be a Badass Vigilante.

From what I understand, this is the first book in a follow up trilogy to the How to be a Badass Witch trilogy. If so, why is there still so much backstory and set up?

I did not find the story interesting at all as Kera is being trained and recruited. Whole lot of info. dumping, not a lot of bad ass vigilante ass kicking going on. Just didn't care any more.

I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Don't give up on this book, it starts a little slowish to start, but it makes for a great read!

A amazing character and world building which is my total jam with books like this. I really enjoyed the twist and turns that make you question what is/ who is really good and who is bad throughout the story. I am excited for the next one in the series.
