Leigh Bardugo is an expert writer - but this series feels feels a bit disappointing. I love Nikolai's story, but Nina's is a less interesting.

Looking forward to the whole novel though!

Overall Impressions:
First I have to say that I’m thrilled to be back in this world. I love it so so much. I have reread Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom recently and I was so devastated when they were over. This is a world I just hate leaving. It’s so vibrant and unique.

I also really love that we’re seeing Nikolai in a pickle. He’s just so fun to watch in these situations. You literally never know where he is going to go. These first few chapters were rife with drama and surprises already but also with the sharp wit, charm, and humor that we’d expect from these characters.

I’m glad that I don’t have too long to wait for more because this teaser is amazing. It's action packed and these chapters lead us up to what will surely be another (stressful) battle for our favorite crew. Get your hands on a copy of King of Scars and get reading so you are ready for the release of Rule of Wolves. It’s going to be epic…and probably a little sad because I don’t want to be done with the Grishaverse.

That being said, we all get to look forward to the Netflix adaptation of Shadow and Bone which is set to launch in April so if you are heartbroken at the end of Rule of Wolves you can rest easy knowing you'll get to see some familiar faces again very soon!

I’m ready for some fun, a little heartbreak because of course there’s going to be some…you can just feel the foreboding…and lots more of that charming Nikolai and Zoya back and forth.

As someone who loves Leigh Bardugo I was ecstatic to be able to read this sampler! It’s the perfect teaser and I cannot wait for the next and final book in this series next month. I’m not ready for it to be over but I am so excited to see the stories of Nina, Nikolai & Zoya play out!

*Rating 4/5*

Sampler- And the 106pages just wanted me to read more!! Can’t wait for the release end of March!!

Rule of Wolves - ties in very nice into the ending of King of Scars (would recommend reading it again!!) Who needs an excuse to re-read any of the Grishaverse series...
I always liked Nina’s and Zoya's characters and being able to experience more in this book is definitely a plus. And another book with Nikolai - how can it dissapoint!! Don’t want to spoil anything. But I can say - this is a “Read all Night”, “Can’t put it down” story.
NEED to know the ending!!

Why is this sampler so short? I could have devoured the whole book right now. Fortunately March 30th is not too far away.

I am counting down the days until the release for this book!!

King Nokolai is my absolute favorite in the entire universe but coming in a close second is Nina and Zoya. This sampler has me hooked already and I was so sad when I turned the page and it was over! I cannot wait to follow the next chapter in this incredibly well built universe from the brilliant mind of Leigh Bardugo!
Thank you to #Netgalley and #Imprint for this sampler.
March 30th cannot come fast enough!

Bardugo successfully continues the thrilling story started in Six of Crows and the Grishaverse series as well as King of Scars with her usual mastery of writing. This snippet of the book was absolutely wonderful to read and I can't wait until the full book comes out. Certainly one of the most anticipated reads of 2021.

This has all my emotions tangled up. Of course Zoya shut herself off: first her mentor died, then, again, dead Darkling didn't exactly stay dead *shakes fist at him* and cherry on top, Nikolai is getting married to Princess Ehri. How much more does this girl have to take?
Also, Nikolai is totally so head over heels in love, but sometimes denying is the only way, and the best way, because neither Zoya nor Nikolai can allow them the luxury of admitting their feelings to their ownselves. Boy I can't wait to see how the story unravels.
Btw, Makhi somewhat reminded me of Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles. Anyone else felt that?
And Nina. Oh my Nina. I fear for this girl. Someone help her, PLEASE.

Excited for the magic, mayhem and intrigue being unfolded craftily by the Queen Bardugo herself!!

So good already just from the first couple of chapters! I cannot wait for this release! I really hope we get to see more of Zoya and Nikolai's dynamic in later chapters to come!

I was given a free short digital sampler of this book to review, which I am grateful for. That being said, within the first chapter of this book, I found content that implies sexual promiscuity, which I feel is not appropriate for the age range this book was written for (14-18).

"She wanted only to prune her roses and rusticate with a series of wildly handsome lovers..." - Chapter One

"If Makhi didn't conceive daughters with one of her consorts..." - Chapter One

I personally prefer books without sexual content in them, so this book is not for me.

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my personal opinion and others may disagree with me.

I wish I could just read more. Although the book itself comes out in less than a month, I still need more RoW content. I am so excited to read it in full when my preorder comes.

The first three chapters of Rule of Wolves give us a glimpse of Shu Han, Fjerda and Ravka. With POV from the queen of Shu Han, Nina and Nikolai. The shadow fold curse is spreading and blighting the lands –leading to internal conflicts, while Ravka is on the brink of war with Fjerda. In this chapter sampler we also get a scene featuring a group of Suli nomads – I'm hoping this is a hint that Inej will make a cameo later in the book! I really enjoyed this sampler and cannot WAIT to see what happens in this installment, the easy banter between characters and Nikolai's charm are on full display in this sampler. I will definitely be re-reading King of Scars before this comes out.

This sampler has boosted my excitement for the Rule of Wolves. I cannot wait to travel back into the Grishaverse. I loved the perspective of Nina and Nikolai, as always and I'm intrigued as to where the story is going to go next. It was interesting to have a third POV added in from Queen Mahkhi and I'm (I'm)patiently waiting for the release date so I can continue reading!

Reading this sampler was like coming home to something, but also the home is sort of on fire. It's so nice to finally be able to revisit such beloved characters and also finally have the next few chapters of a story that I have been waiting for what feels like years for (I know it hasn't been that long but COVID has messed up all perception of time for me). I'm not going to lie, I'm upset about the resurrection (and it looks to be official) and I was also very wary of how different Zoya might be thanks to the ending of the previous book, but the writing and prose is still just as amazing and the stakes are very high. It's happening. (And by it I mean a few things but also one Big Thing but I'm being vague to avoid spoilers). As was the case with the previous book, I'm far more invested in Nikolai's and Zoya's chapters than the others for the most part and this sampler only contained one of those perspectives (out of three chapters) so I wasn't as engaged.

I will say, this sampler made me realize that I probably have to reread the books (let's be real I was looking for an excuse) or reread King of Scars at the very least (maybe Six of Crows as well. For Science. And Nina) because some of the stuff was a teensy bit hazy for me. (Pretty much all I remember is Zoyalai. Literally. That's it. And some weird princess switch drama. And Nina doing stuff. Yeah ... a reread is definitely needed).

Either way, I'm SO excited and CANNOT wait for March 30th.

I have never read King of Scars so you have to take my review with that in mind. The first chapter had me hooked. I was very invested in Makhis story. I was very sad when it completely changed over to someone else’s POV. It felt like I was reading a whole new book. Then I got invested in the third chapter again. I will have to pick up King of Scars and this book when it releases because I feel very invested and need to know what is going to happen and what is happening.

I'M SCREAMING. WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!

This is one of my most anticipated books of 2021 and this teaser just made me more excited. I can't wait to see where this story is going! Looks like its going to be another twisty and turning tale from Bardugo.

I AM SO READY FOR THIS BOOK YOU HAVE NO IDEA. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF 2021. After that ending of King of Scars (and the appearance of The Darkling Himself) this did not satiate my hunger and I need more. More. MORE.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for this sampler. Included in the sampler are the first three chapters of the Rule of Wolves, each told from a different point of view. The opening chapters draw you back into the Grishaverse, into the court intrigue and power dynamics of the many players of this world. War is coming and with so many threats and dangers, I’m interested to see how it all plays out and what will happen to the characters and their world over the course of the book.
