Mummy’s Little Secret is one book you will not put down. It's one where you intend to read just one chapter, then you find yourself reading one more, until you reach the end of the book and realise you've stayed up all night reading it. A fantastic suspense filled read that has you on the edge of your seat.

I love this author and this latest book didn’t disappoint. The plot kept me hooked until the very last page, with plenty of twists and turns in the storyline. I found the characters were very relatable.

Many thanks to netgalley and M.A. Hunter for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

I have always loved books from this author, and once again this one did not disappoint.

Jess and morag, 2 women with young daughters that meet on a visit to the park.
Jess is wheelchair bound following the birth of her son which sadly did not survive.
Jess is approached a little girl in the park who wispers 'she is not my mummy' .
Jess is approached by Morag who seems anxious to move away from the park.

Jess becomes obsessed with the notion that something is very wrong with that mother/ daughter relationship and begins to try and unravel the secret life that morag seems to lead.

Meanwhile, a male body is found, stabbed and Jess is covered in his blood.

A story told in the 'before' and 'after' which has many twists and turns as hidden secrets are revealed. The intrigue around the murder kept me gurssing to the very end.

Highly recommend.

Mummy's Little Secret is a page-turning psychological thriller. It has a real spine-chilling quality that may well have you involuntarily taking a sharp intake of breath.

The story goes between reality and delusion and is told between Jess and Morag and throws many twists as you try to work out what is real and what's not.

Jess is a highly emotional character, plus has depression and is in a wheelchair, but has dug deep to find some determination to discover something within Daisy's family (which Morag belongs to), that she believes doesn't ring true with her. Her husband, Charlie thinks she is wrong and her obsession in this has impact. It also creates much mystery.

There is, subsequently, a detective who arrives on the scene, who gives further perspective and insight into what's really going on and who is telling the truth and who is not as lives are dramatically changed.

The climax is as rivetting as the rest of the book, which is pretty fast-paced once it gets going.

Jess is at the park with her daughter Grace when another child tells her that the woman with her is not her mom. Jess is left questioning if she heard the girl correctly. Is Morag really not Daisy's mother? The two women build a friendship. Each woman has their reasons for seeking the other out. The book is told in a "Before and Now" prospective.

I read this book over a span of about two months. I was in a reading slump. It didn't get me out of the slump but it had me thinking a lot about it as I wondered what the little girl's message meant.

The premise of this book had such promise, particularly as I like the use of different timelines, however the execution was lacking. The two women, Jess and Morag were two dimensional and unbelievable. The two children were unchildlike with behaviour and language beyond their years. The two husbands were like cardboard cutouts - there only to add a minor role of inconsequence. This should and could have been a tense, dramatic book but was slow and turgid. Two stars for the idea only

Written in dual timelines, I liked the premise of it. Being fond of this author, I enjoyed reading this story. the plot was slightly predictable, but the writing pulled at me to finish the book.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a story about betrayal, survival and , the best part being the new friendship that develops in the end.
Two moms with their daughters meet in the park and the two girls become fast friends. The moms, on the other hand, have their suspicions about each other and leave the park feeling uneasy. Each has their own secrets and carry a burden they are unwilling or unable to let go of. They continue a stressed relationship, each trying to figure out the others motives.
This is a great psychological thriller that had me guessing till the end. The suspense builds slowly releasing small details of each women's lives ending with them working together to protect one of the girls. A story that starts with distrust ends in friendship.

I found the premise of Mummy's Little Secret to be very intriguing. Jess and her daughter Grace are at the park when a child, Daisy, comes up to Jess and says "she's not my mum" about the person with Daisy, Morag. Morag does act like Daisy's mom and calls Daisy her daughter, even if Morag is an older mom. Jess becomes obsessed with what Daisy said and needs to find out the truth.
Jess herself is in a wheelchair after being paralyzed during childbirth in which her son Luke did not survive. She's stopped taking her anti-depressants and has a history of paranoia. Morag as well is paranoid for her own reasons.
I thought the pacing was slow at times, but did like the dual timelines ("then" and "now"), the multiple POVs, and short chapters. I was eager to find out the ending and found it quite satisfying.

I already sent in a review of this book through NetGalley, somehow I ended up with two review copies on my shelf - so I'm resending the four-star review to clear.

A cleverly written book that deserves the genre psychological thriller. Two women meet in a park with their young daughters. They become acquaintances but both have suspicions about the other. Lots of twists and turns and a really clever ending.

The book is told over two timelines, Before and Now and features two families. Before is told by Jess and Morag and Now is told by DI Mike Ferry investigating the death of a man at Morag’s house. Jess is mother to five year old Grace. Her marriage is struggling after their baby son Luke died during labour and an epidural has left Jess paralysed from the waist down and dependent on a wheelchair. She is having to rely on painkillers and antidepressants to get through the day. When Jess and Grace are at the park a little girl, Daisy, approaches them and whispers ‘she’s not my mum’. Jess meets her mum Morag and as they talk Jess can’t get the comment out of head and wonders whether Daisy has been abducted and is being held against her will as Morag does seem quite old to be her mother. This is the start of an obsessive journey that will end with devastating consequences. The book has a very intense and compelling storyline with a satisfying ending. Really enjoyed reading it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I enjoyed this book. It was full of questions and twists. I was hooked, starting with the line, "She's not my mom".
Jess makes it her mission to solve the mystery and get herself in a heap of trouble in the process. A wild ride but is neatly and satisfyingly wrapped up in the end.

I love books about relationships and this one is excellent.

I got so wrapped up in trying to figure out the ins and outs of everything and had to keep turning the pages.

The trauma detail is sensitively handled and adds to the understanding of the characters.

Well written and interesting book.
