I love these Book Club Kits, I wish they were available with every book! I know The Great Gatsby is a classic, but I was never a big fan. I didn't particularly enjoy reading it as required reading in high school or when I tried again as an adult. The discussion questions brought up some great points, and now I'm considering rereading it for a 3rd time.

The discussion questions were great, and I can see how some could spark long conversations with book clubs. I wish my local book club was still meeting regularly. One question in particular that stuck with me was, "Do you believe it's possible to separate your reading experience from what you know about the life of the author?" I think this one is coming up a lot in discussions right now, and many people are talking about controversial authors. Is it possible to separate the work from the artist/author?

I wanted to read this book since I saw the movie and wow, the book is even more heartbreaking than the film. This classic novel is a must for everyone and I can highly recommend it.

Much as you would expect from a Book Club Kit, a handy little guide, helpful for both individual readers and book groups alike.

Another fabulous book club kit for an amazing, much discussed book.
This kit is ideal for keeping interest in the book and the book club discussions and helps readers to stop and absorb what they have read and mull over thoughts and feelings and discuss elements as a group.
Great idea using these!

A great book club resource, just in time for the novel to be public domain. Also available online, it will be a great resource for book clubs.

A really insightful book club kit. The questions are a good mix of questions about the book itself and the historical impact of the book. The fun facts at the end were also very interesting. I think this will be a great tool given the recent resurgence of Gatsby!

I just recently read The Great Gatsby for the first time and absolutely loved it. I then reviewed the Book Club Kit. I think that it would be a great asset to a book club as it would allow them to delve into the storyline and character development more. I would highly recommend this to a book club; I especially think it would be useful to a virtual bookclub.

This is one of my favorite books of all time and this Book Club Kit is certainly a lovely bonus. The reader questions are fantastic and thought provoking. The quotes from other popular names is interesting, but not a necessity. The interesting facts section was exactly the kind of anecdotes interested readers want to be able to read. This is a worth wild addition to any book club, classroom, or solo reader looking to build on The Great Gatsby reading experience.

I'm obviously stupid and didn't know what a book club kit was. All the same, this was fantastic. Amazing ideas and questions for discussion.

An excellent resource for a book club discussion The Great Gatsby. There are tons of questions and some historical context and other facts about the book.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher.

The best questions are the ones that you’re excited to answer. I found myself smiling when I formed my opinions. These questions are so well-phrased that I learned something new in a few of them. For instance, I didn’t know how “The Great Gatsby” became popular, but it makes complete sense and is an excellent starting point for discussion. To answer that one question you have to evaluate the themes of the novel. These questions not only prompt discussion but force me to reevaluate my understanding of certain aspects of characters and central plot elements. I wish I had questions that well developed to answer in high school.

I absolutely love The Great Gatsby, so reading the book club kit was delightful!
I especially loved the questions, they made me revisit the novel.
The interesting insights and titbits about the novel and about Fitzgerald were charming.

This book is on the curriculum at my school but I think these questions would work well for an initial read to get students thinking while they read. I can imagine this resource would be welcomed by any reading group to help provoke initial discussions.

Great resource - hope to see more produced in the future.

Nicely done! I have read Gatsby multiple times and have taken quite a few literature classes on it as well, yet I still found out a few "new" interesting tidbits about the book and about Fitzgerald by reading your guide. The discussion questions are excellent, and what a nice bonus to read different book reviews that have been written over the years. Thank you very much for this nice companion to this classic American novel!

It's been a while since I've read this story, and it's definitely time for a reread of this classic - with some discussion questions as my guide! I like how in-depth these questions are, providing some context to the story before raising the question.

The praise (of the book) section isn't really useful to me as a reader, but I do enjoy some "Fascinating Facts" - like behind the scenes into the writing process. Do you know there was a Great Gatsby opera? Sounds awesome!

I'm a huge fan of these book club kits. It's so fun to have a built in book party ready to go! This kit contains 10 rather in depth questions, some quotes about Gatsby through the years, and a ton of interesting "behind the scenes" facts about the book. All in all, I think this would add a bit of sizzle to any book club discussion. The facts were just as interesting and thought provoking as the questions! I'd highly recommend this kit, should your book club decide to be transported back to the roaring 20's!

I was granted complimentary review access to this book club kit via NetGalley and selected it rather than the other similar kits that appeared on the same day because I had actually just re-read Gatsby while preparing to review the new prequel novel Nick.

I'm conflicted on whether to simply critique the set of questions within or answer them, because the former high school Honours student in me leapt into action and started formulating answers as I read. Is this a good conversation starter for a group of people intending to read this book together and discuss it? Absolutely. These questions provoke deep exploration of the text and, in some cases, may even encourage re-reading of passages to obtain a better answer. With that said, these questions all seem answerable as a post-reading activity and do sound like they assume you've not only already read the entire book (rather than presenting sections of questions to answer at intervals along the way) but also assume that you've been taught about the author himself. There are questions that talk about Fitzgerald's life, his fame, and the way he's been immortalized. There are questions that talk about how important this book has become and propose that it's in no small part due to the prevalence of this book in school curriculums. I would like to comment that while this is indeed one of the "great American novels" and it is indeed very important in the American school system, this is a publication that will circulate in the Canadian markets as well and possibly further abroad, especially if sold as a cheap ebook file for international reading clubs. As a Canadian who attempted Gatsby at high school age because that's when we're "supposed" to read it, but wasn't actually required to read it in school, I didn't learn all these other things about Fitzgerald. I was not guided through my first (or any other) reading of Gatsby. I don't recall if this was excluded from the Honours stream because our teachers had more freedom to stray from the curriculum or if this actually wasn't being taught in BC high schools in the early 2000s in general, but "the great American novel" is definitely just a concept we acknowledge in passing most of the time. I think if I were to try to answer the questions in this kit with a mixed American/international online group, my answers would stir up more questions because I have not been indoctrinated in this great American novel culture like this kit assumes I have.

In short, I suppose what I'm trying to say is this is a wonderfully thought-provoking set of discussion questions for any group studying The Great Gatsby and the questions themselves provoke the desire to research or re-read, but this kit also assumes that everyone using it to study Gatsby is either currently in the American school system studying this with their class, or they're re-reading it with an older study group and everyone already studied this novel and the people and concepts around it with a formal class in the past. This kit is written for the American audience by the American audience and doesn't make an attempt to explain itself to international users of the kit.

I read The Great Gatsby in high school, and loved the story. I think it would be so fun to reread with a book club, and this guide will be awesome to have for a discussion! In addition to discussion questions, it includes reviews of the book from almost 100 years ago to the present, and some fun facts. This will be great to have if my book club decides to reread the book in the future!

I loved this book club kit! I have many copies of The Great Gatsby, and have answered all manner of discussion questions. I really liked the ones included in this kit, and appreciated connections to modern times. The quotes were cute and the facts were a great addition!
