This is a great resource! I love that there are open ended questions to share with your book club group, and also a short interview with the author. It provides some good insight into the decisions make in the writing of the book. We always like to chat about the author at my book club, so I appreciate that this was included. There’s even some recipes in the back of this guide!

I really appreciated having this book club kit to think about this book on a deeper level. I would be helpful to have discussion questions at the back of every book. Sometimes the questions make me think about the good themes in a different way.

This is a great book club kit to go with the book. My book club is always looking for discussion prompts, and I thought the questions in this kit were great to spark discussion. I really enjoyed the author interview and the recipes as well, since the whole time I was reading the book I wanted to be able to eat the food! I hope more of these kits are made for other books. They make hosting bookclub so easy!

THE CHICKEN SISTERS: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Reality cooking show, sort-of feuding (but really just annoyed with each other) sisters, and small town politics are the genealogy that make up this tale that could have used a little bit more heart and soul.

NOTE: I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thanks Netgalley!

I'm obviously stupid and didn't know what a book club kit was. All the same, this was fantastic. Amazing ideas and questions for discussion.

This was not the book. It was only the Book Club discussion of the book. I could not give it a review as I could NOT read the book. I did not get the reasons to send a Book kit.

Great resource!! This is a great companion piece to the book! I have not yet read the book but I am looking forward to it. I've heard so much about it. I lead book clubs at my library and if we decide to read The Chicken Sisters this would be a good resource.
Thanks Penguin Random House and NetGalley.

This guide will be awesome to have for a book club discussion! In addition to a reader's guide, and a conversation with the author KJ Dell'Antonia, it has a few recipes at the end! This will be great to have if my book club decides to read The Chicken Sisters in the future! And it would be so fun if we all tried to make the recipes and had our discussion over dinner/dessert!

This book club kit is an excellent companion to this book. The Q&A was insightful and the discussion questions were thoughtful and pointed. I loved the addition of recipes at the end.

This book threw me for a loop because I thought it was going to be a comedy and then I quickly realized it was a story of family drama. While it wasn't what I initially expected, I enjoyed reading about the sisters and how they worked through their issues.

There really are two fried chicken restaurants in Girard, Ks run by sisters, Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's. I've been to both, so when I saw this story, I had to read it......
A wonderful book about family and the trials and tribulations our families can put each other through. Two fried chicken restaurants over 100 yrs old originally founded by sisters competing with each other. They are currently run by sisters, descendants of the originals who are working to keep their businesses operating. This story is built around the daughters of one of the current sisters. One sister has worked in the fried chicken business most of her life but there is a problem. She married the son of the other chicken restaurant and switched sides. Her sister has been working for a reality TV program, where she has just been replaced by a younger model. The two come up with a plan to enter their mother and mother in law into Food Wars with a $100,000 cash prize for the winner. And WAR it will be......
This was a wonderful story written with just a little sarcasm and a lot of humor. How the families survive and exactly who wins make for a very entertaining read.

A lovely addition to have when reading The Chicken Sisters! Even if you aren't in a book club, you can use this to think more deeply about the story or even have a discussion with yourself. It even has a recipe inside for chocolate cream pie.

Book Club Kit: The Chicken Sisters is one of a new series of supporting brochures and materials available for fiction and nonfiction titles from Penguin Random House Librarian Resources. Released 11th Feb 2021 by Penguin Random House, this entry is filled with interesting background history to enhance the personal or book-club reading experience for K.J. Dell'Antonia's engaging story about the meaning of family, friendship, and female relationships, which was published in 2020. This brochure is 7 pages long and includes book discussion questions, some book related recipes, and a short Q&A interview with the author.
I enjoy the extra resources and enhancements the larger publishing houses are able to employ to support their publications. I also appreciate that most library systems can provide quite a lot of extra support and guidance to their patrons and groups. These materials would be appropriate for online/remote discussion groups, formal education (modern literature, sociology, culture, and allied subjects), and for enhancing personal reading.

Five stars. Compact, succinct, and with beautiful typesetting and colorful graphics. It does -not- include the original book, just the discussion and support materials. Available free from the publisher's website.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
