I expected this to be the actual book, was a me mistake when asking
It’s basically a 7 pages long interview, with pictures and all. interesting if you want to know more about the insights of the creation of the text: the inspirations, the reason why it was written etc.

This books seems to be everywhere and with a host of awards behind it I was keen to get my hands on it.
The story centres upon Nora Seed who decides her own life is not worth living and suicide is her only option.
She finds herself in the midnight library where she is able to make some different life choices and look at how her life could have panned out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, it was an interesting twist to stories like It’s a Wonderful Life.
Matt Haigh has an amazing ability to write about mental health issues in a direct, understandable and insightful way and he does this really well here.
My only slight reservation was I didn’t fall in love with Nora, so although I loved the writing and the story her character was not, for me one I felt completely invested in.

I loved this!! This was my book-club pick for October 2023. When I saw this as an available choice on NetGalley, I was excited!!
To start, the colors of the font was very hard to read. The first section is a light yellow/green so I had to change my reader background to black. Then the next section was a navy blue, so I had to change back to white. I understand wanting to incorporate the colors of the cover, but it didn't work here. Hopefully the published print wasn't like this.
I thought the questions were very thought provoking. I love the way you're encouraged to apply the themes to your own life and really place yourself in the story. I was a little confused as to why there were only 8 questions. I'm not sure if that's the standard for a book club kit, but that seems very minimal. If its attached to the end of the book that's one thing. I wouldn't buy this kit for 8 questions and a few QA with the author,

Regardless, I really liked these questions and they did a great job formulating them. I recommend these questions after reading the book.

I enjoyed going through the Book Club Kit for The Midnight Library. I thought the Discussion Questions were very nice and a great starting point, not just for people new to the book club world but for any book club. The questions go through the book nicely and are helpful for conversation and interaction in a book club group.

The "In Conversation with Matt Haig" was really fascinating. I really liked reading about his thought and feelings about The Midnight Library. It is always enjoyable learning more about an author, what pushed them to write the book, writing in general, the way they wrote it, comparing to their other work....etc.
Overall I enjoyed going through and reading the Book Club Kit for The Midnight Library and would recommend it.

This is a great starting point for a book discussion! It's got good questions to make you review the book and think about what the author meant, and have good chats to dig deeper. The interview with the author is also nice to understand more about where this book came from and how to think about the intentions that went into it.

I know I've heard mixed reviews about this in the past, but as someone who deals with depression and has a hard time committing to choices for fear of choosing wrong...I definitely connected with Nora. This book felt like a deep hug or being rubbed on the back while someone says it'll be ok.

I liked the book club kit for The Midnight Library better than the book. The discussion questions are so good! For what is supposed to be a thought-provoking book, these questions definitely stimulate a thoughtful discussion. I loved questions 1 and 5. The Q&A with Matt Haig was good, also. This kit is simply discussion based; no extras, and I do like extra things in book club kits to add to the fun of a book club meeting.

At its core, this novel is a celebration of life and a reminder that every choice we make, no matter how insignificant it may seem, shapes our journey. It encourages readers to appreciate the beauty of the present moment and find contentment in the lives they are living.

"The Midnight Library" is a moving and ultimately uplifting story that explores profound philosophical questions while maintaining a compelling and accessible narrative. It's a book that will leave readers contemplating their own lives, choices, and the infinite possibilities that exist within them. I was curious to see what a book club resource would be for a novel like The Midnight Library, and I was happy with the result. It encouraged deeper contemplation and good discussion about the novel and had some topics that would be good conversation starters in a book club environment. One of the things that has always been difficult for me with attending book clubs is that it is sometimes difficult to get started on the discussion. I am glad to see publishers putting together resources like this!

Extra information on The Midnight Library. This is an interview with the author. I feel like this should be available on an author's website. The book club discussion questions are helpful.

I really appreciate that Penguin creates these Book Club guides for many of their titles. While they are also useful to classroom teachers looking for good discussion questions or background/context, they are also a good tool for use with literature circles at the secondary level. Here, they also provide the author’s response to some questions about his larger body of work as well.
