For the most part, it was a decent book club kit. I think it might be better fit for those just starting a book club because the questions didn't feel super indepth to the story. Just asking the readers about their favorite character and such. The story was very interesting so I think there's definitely room for improvement with the questions.
The Playlist and paper doll feature were super neat though! That was a nice surprise!

This took me back to my childhood when I was playing with the paper dolls back in the day. The questions were okay, not great but not bad either. I enjoyed learning about the genre. The discussion questions were lacking and didn't seem to delve into the story all that much.

I really enjoy the book club kits that Netgalley and the book Authors create. They are each very different, but this one for Mexican Gothic took things into the next level. Paper dolls and multiple outfits! Wow, yes please. My jaw dropped on the floor, I expected to see bookmarks and reading trackers, but what was delivered was interesting historical information and printable dolls! The little girl in me squealed!!!

I really love Book Club Kits and this one was no exception. I think it has the power to really enhance the experience of reading the book and discussing it!

I loved this book this should be a modern day classic it was truly gripping I was hooked from the get go interesting and addictive and I've never read anything like this before

3.5 stars!! Wow what a ride!! It definitely took me a bit to get into this one but overall it was a fascinating story with great writing. It as a bit more gory than I realized it would be but overall the gothic setting was incredible and extra spooky. Overall I think this is a great book for spooky season and for horror lovers! In the bookclub kit there are these gorgeous paper dolls of Noemí and different outfits of hers, I'm obsessed! They are gorgeous! The 1950's gothic setting was new for me, but I loved it as someone who loves that time era. I loved our main character, Noemí. She was my favorite. I loved the sass and occasional comedic relief of her banter. Thank you so much to Silvia Moreno-Garcia & Netgalley for letting me read this!!

The idea for this is great - I like the paper doll activity as it took me back to my childhood playing with and dressing up dolls. However, I thought the questions could have been a little more thought provoking. While I like the idea of asking people their opinions on specific parts of the plot, characters, setting etc, I feel like there could be more depth in talking about motivations or speculation based on the characters' actions. As a book club activity, I think this would be great, but if it was going to be adapted into a classroom then I think the questions would need a little more depth.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to look at this book club kit in exchange for my honest opinion.

The book kit includes a letter from the author, discussion questions, a playlist from the author, a short history of gothic romances, and a Noemi paperdoll cutout.
I personally really enjoyed the letter from the author on the inspiration for writing the book as well as the history of the gothic romance genre and would have loved to read a larger excerpt of these sections. I also liked the author-curated playlist.
The discussion questions left me wanting more in terms of quality and quantity of questions. Many are generic questions that seem like they are suited for a much younger audience (that the book is not written for) and feel like they were written too broadly and don't leave too much room for open discussion. This book has a lot of mystery and room for theories, so I feel like twice as many discussion points are needed.
The paper doll activity is cute and unique, but personally wasn't something I think I'd use.
The book club kit is okay, but definitely needs some tweaking.

This was amazing the bookclub enjoyed it very much and the package helped with everyones reviews. Thank you

Its a great. I thought I was getting the book, but then understood a bit more of what I was getting. This is a guide if a book club was produced. The rating is for the book club kit and not necessarily the book.

This kit is a thoughtful companion to Mexican Gothic, packed with discussion questions, background info, and extra materials that really enhance the reading experience. Perfect for book clubs wanting to dive deeper into the novel’s atmosphere and themes.

This book club kit comes with a letter from the author, discussion questions, a playlist from the author, a short history of gothic romances, and a Noemi paperdoll cutout.
The extras are great, but a book club kit is primarily about the discussion questions, and unfortunately, the person who wrote these clearly hadn't read the book. They're as generic as you can get ("who was your favorite character and why?" "would you read a sequel?", "what questions would you ask the author?").
As a book club kit, unfortunately, this totally fails. As a bonus for readers, it'd be great.

Thank you, Netgalley, for my copy of this Book Club Kit! This Book Club Kit was so detailed and well thought out! The Kit starts with a personal letter from the author giving important insights that may have been missed while participants read Mexican Gothic. The Playlist was amazing and would be so cute printed out on postcards to give out before everyone starts reading the book. The paper doll made me giggle in the best way! It reminded me of my childhood, and it was such a unique activity for a book club. I'm so thankful I have found the Book Club Kits through Netgalley! I cannot recommend them enough!

This is a nice kit for a book club. It has great review questions. The paper doll is cute as well. Reminds me of my childhood.

I have received two copies of Mexican Gothic since it came out a few years ago and will finally be reading it for the Reddit book club this year!
This Book Club kit is awesome. I love the added details beyond just discussion questions.
Thank you!

A beautifully compiled book club kit. I have this book on my TBR and this book club kit got me incredibly stoked to read it. I loved the tidbits added about Latin
American history.
Includes a letter from the author, discussion questions, a playlist, a discussion of the real location of the book’s setting, a family seal belonging to some of the characters, discussion on gothic romances becoming domestic noirs, paper doll dress up cut outs,

This book club kit is a wonderfully atmospheric companion to Mexican Gothic, offering a thoughtful mix of context, creativity, and conversation starters that made our discussion even more engaging.
The author letter was a standout—personal and insightful, giving us a sense of the story’s inspiration and tone. The discussion questions were well-crafted, touching on major themes like colonialism, gender, and horror without being too academic, which allowed for a lively and accessible conversation.
We loved the inclusion of the playlist, which set the perfect mood for reading or meeting, and the background on Real del Monte provided valuable historical context that grounded the novel’s eerie setting in real-world history. The article on Gothic romances evolving into domestic noir added a fascinating layer of literary analysis, great for readers interested in genre.
The Noemí Taboada paper doll activity was a fun and unexpected touch—especially for fans who appreciated the strong aesthetic and fashion elements in the novel. It was a creative way to celebrate the character’s bold personality and style.
Overall, this is a rich, immersive kit that deepens appreciation for the novel and provides a memorable experience for any book group. Highly recommended for fans of gothic fiction and readers looking for more than just discussion prompts.

Was new to Netgalley at the time I requested this. Did not realize this was only the book club kit. Have not read the book and therefore not able to meaningfully review the bookclub kit.

I, a fool, thought i was getting the novel The Mexican Gothic and didn't read the fine print that this was a book club kit. That being said, I am in fact reading this novel for a book club so it was a happy accident to discover this resource. It included thoughtful discussion questions to spark deeper conversation (not just surface-level stuff), a playlist of music to accompany the book, information about the book's inspiration, a Noemi paper DOLL! omg yes please. The formatting of the copy I recieved on kindle was a little wonky, but I'm not really holding that against the resource.

Thank you so much to Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Penguin Random House, and NetGalley for the opportunity to check out this book club kit for Mexican Gothic. I loved the book and would be thrilled to share with my book club. There's discussion questions, a letter from the author, and even a paper doll of Noemi that is so cute! I loved the extras. These book club kits help facilitate great discussions. Thank you again!
