This is a really nice supplement for the book! My favorite part is the Spotify playlist, which I think is a really cool thing that authors have been doing lately, and creates an atmosphere. There's a few mini-essays that also offer some insights into the book, and a paper doll of the main character with some of her outfits that is pretty cute!
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House Library Resources for the e-ARC of this book club kit! It would definitely come in handy for a discussion over this book!

Thank you to the publisher and author for the opportunity to have this advanced copy of Book Club Kit for Mexican Gothic. It was a super helpful tool in facilitating my book club meeting and the members really appreciated all the interesting, original little details, including the printable paper dolls. I wish that I had thought to print them out before our meeting because they would have been the perfect way to decorate around our snacks and wine. So fun!!

Such an amazing companion to the book.
For reading within a book club, this kit is highly recommended.

I think this idea is very interesting. This kit is very well organized and illustrated has guide with an interview of the author, this includes a playlist to make the book reading even more thrilling.

This is a great book club kit to aid in discussion of Mexican Gothic. You get a letter from the author, discussion questions, a playlist (which I especially loved!), and more!

I really loved Mexican Gothic and due to this book have added Silvia Moreno-Garcia to my "authors to always read" list! It kept me guessing until the bitter end and was the perfect blend of darkness, magic, and thriller.

Sorry. I was mistakenly thought this is the novel. Anyway, still thank you so much for granting my request.

A useful companion guide to Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s Mexican Gothic. It comes with fun prompts, a music playlist and activities for book club events.

And where is the novel, please?!? I only see a bunch of “content discussion”, comments for the readers and so on.
Are you pulling my legs? Is it a practical joke to mock reviewers?
I’m flabbergasted!

This is a great book club kit! It contains background information about Mexico from the author, great discussion questions, an awesome playlist to go along with the book, instructions on how to make a paper doll of Noemi, and so much more! I highly recommend this kit for any book club interested in Reading Mexican Gothic, it will make your reading experience so much better.

Mexican gothic is set in Mexico City around 1950s. Noemí Taboada is sent by her father to check on her cousin Catalina, who currently lives with her husband and his family (The Doyles) in a small town of El Triunfo, after her father received some concerning letters from Catalina. Noemí agrees to go in hope that her father approves that she gets her Master degree in anthropology.
Once she arrived in the Doyles’ mansion, she’s confronted with the cold and unwelcoming attitude of the family. Noemí struggles to get proper care for her cousin and grows incredibly worried for her health. However, she has put in her mind that she’ll do whatever it takes to get her cousin the care she needs, despite the weird nightmares and events that’s occurring.
Silvia Moreno-Garcia managed to write an engaging gothic horror book that’s both creepy and fascinating. Her writing was incredible and I very much enjoyed.
The plot kept getting darker and creepier page after page, it’s perfect for those who love historical gothic horror books. The characters were intriguing and keeps you rooting for the main character.
The reason I gave this a three stars is that I was personally more uncomfortable reading it than frightening. Some might enjoy that type of horror but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. There were times when I felt it was dragging on for a while and felt that some things weren’t explained. However I overall enjoyed the author’s writing style and might try another book by her in the future.

This kit is perfect for anyone interested in choosing Mexican Gothic for their book club. It contains a letter from the author, discussion questions for an in-depth conversation, paper dolls with different clothing options, as well as insight from the author about different aspects of the book.

This book is a gothic horror story of a rebellious and futuristic 22-year old girl named Noemi, who receives an erratic message from her very close cousin Catalina that her husband wants to kill her and asks for Noemi’s help. The whole story unfolds when Noemi meets her cousin’s husband Virgil Doyle and in-laws for the first time. From the get-go, Noemi suspects them of something untoward like trying to extort money from Catalina, especially when they claim that Catalina is just sick and try to not let her talk to Noemi but when Noemi digs around she discovers a lot more than just a scam. The house was built on secrets.
With the cover, I was in for a gothic experience with a twist. And I can say I was right about most of the things. However, it was written in such a captivating way, that my own deductions barely came to my mind. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Especially since I read with gloomy rainy weather all around me. The climax was a little dull for me though. Fans of Haunting of the hill house would find this book right up their alley.
The intrigue was always built around the characters. Since the book is from Noemi’s pov there is not much background about others and your idea of the characters is the same as Noemi’s. I loved the fact that there was a romantic element in a horror book too. That kept me sane for the happy ending. But the ending was not something I expected and was a little gross to imagine. But still very well written so I am overall happy with the read.

I accidentally clicked on it because I thought it was the actual book. Despite that I liked how some things were explained and I'm looking forward to read the book.

I clicked on this before reading that it was only a book club reading guide. Oops. I’m excited to read the actual book though.

It was very helpful for the reading of the book. Thanks for everyone that did this possible. I liked the actual book, I was not hoping nothing but it was good.

This Book Club Kit contains a couple of interesting essays by the author relating to Mexican Gothic, some Book Club Questions, a Spotify playlist, and some dress-up pages.
I enjoyed Mexican Gothic itself, but I felt the essays would be better placed as appendices to the actual novel. I didn't find the dress-up pages interesting.
Thanks to Silvia Moreno-Garcia, NetGalley, and Penguin for this copy.

MY THOUGHTS-
This psychological thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are so many elements of the story I found fascinating from the aesthetic to atmospheric delight that made me feel as if I was walking through the eerie mansion.
I loved the reveal of the dark and twisted plot and the characters- all of them. I must admit that there is something special when you can connect on a personal level with a book. My Mexican roots were all electrified at the mentions of Agustin Lara, María Candelaria, Orcacio Quiroa, and of course the Aztec ritualistic medicine and Herberia.
The reason why I didn’t give this book a 5-star review is that I felt that for as deliciously twisted and dark the plot was, the finale did not rise to the occasion. I felt like all of a sudden I was being handed too much information all at once and it was coming fast. I wish there would have been a little more care given to the finale.

I loved Mexican Gothic. It is a tale of a small Mexican town and the evil that lives within.
A young woman is taken captive in a (haunted) castle and seeks desperately to escape. With a love interest thrown in, an examination of gender rules and lives of the very wealthy this story never stops.
All the elements of a gothic novel with the addition of some social commentary - this book is sure to please

Thank you NetGalley for the audio ARC but i did not get to hear it. I was unaware that it was audio. I did go out and buy the book though.
