This is a unique book club kit, with a focus on providing historical context for the novel. The kit includes several articles with more information, a letter from the author, book club questions, and a paper doll activity with historically accurate fashions. The weakest part of this kit was the book club questions, which were mostly "how did you feel/did you like x?" questions, but it's definitely worth looking at for the other information.

Book Club Kit: Mexican Gothic

Thank you Penguin publishers and Netgalley for approval of this book.
I loved the questions and discussion ideas to discuss the famous book with my bookish friends.

I heard nothing but good things about this book. I totally enjoyed the story and i think it lived upto the hype. It’s was a little bit mystery, mixed with supernatural elements.

Really useful for the book club but even for those that need guidance reviewing a book. I really liked the book and this made me reflect on it more.

Oh man, I downloading this thinking it was the actual book. Sad day. I got too excited and downloaded it super fast without reading what it actually contained.

It's no wonder this book was optioned by Milojo Productions and set up to be a limited series at Hulu. It's dark, incredible atmospheric, gothic and cerebral. I can't wait to watch this series and compare to the plot of the book, hopefully Noemi holds up as a strong character that we can all root for. Minus one star because I did feel like the story stalled there in the middle with a lot of action in the last 50 pages, but there are a lot of writers guilty of the same pacing.

Cute tie-in with a paper doll and everything. Book clubs would enjoy this. I appreciate it isn’t simply a list of high school English class questions, but rather a collection meant to provoke thought and promote discussion.

This was not the book as expected so not sure how to review it. I cannot use the bookclub kit without reading the book.

I'm really sorry, I downloaded this document because I thought it was the actual book being available on "read now" so, my mistake...
I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy this but I have no need for it at the moment, therefore I can't rate it but I have to in order to be able to post this.

This Book Club Kit is amazing! After reading “Mexican Gothic” I highly suggest utilizing this kit for your book club or individually! I loved the section that includes a playlist curated by the author. If you loved “Mexican Gothic” this kit will add to your experience even further.

This was really interesting. I thought it included the book- my mistake-but reading the material convinced me I needed to get the book. The details were fascinating.

I read Mexican Gothic and loved it, so when I saw this book club kit, I knew I had to try it. The kit includes a letter from the author which gives a brief but informative background on the early history of Mexico and how it was exploited by the British. It also includes discussion questions that are pretty typical for a book club kit. What really stood out was the playlist included by the author. I am a huge fan of author-made playlists because they enhance the reading experience, and it can lead to great book club conversations. The provided information on gothic literature and domestic noir is interesting as well. The only part of the kit I'm not sure about is the printable Noemi doll. It feels a bit young to include this kind of activity because it contrasts with the rest of the kit. As a former high school teacher and the current leader of an adult book club, I highly suggest this book club kit. It provides great talking points and will lead to discussions that delve deeper than surface level comprehension.

I was mistaken and did not realise this was a book club resource. However, the content looks interesting for when I do get a copy of Mexican Gothic. I especially loved the fashion element. The use of graphics and the inspiration behind it was incredible.

This was a really fun book club kit for Mexican Gothic, which my book club is currently reading. One of my favorite parts was the “dress up Noemí” section, I love the outfits and paper doll included. This is a really fun activity! I appreciated learning more about gothic romances and domestic noirs. The playlist was another very nice touch and I’m excited to listen to it! The discussion questions were well-designed. I would recommend this for any book club or anyone interested in learning more about the author and her writing process. Thank you to Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Penguin Random House Library Resources, and Netgalley for a free book club kit in exchange for honest feedback.

This was a short book club guide that was very well thought out and included a spotify playlist. The discussion questions were appropriate

Not a bad book club guide, but the questions were very surface level and generic. Would have liked them to dig a bit deeper. I did like the addition of the playlist- it was very original!

I didn't like the book "Mexican Gothic" but I loved the Book Club Kit. The Spotify playlist is a nice touch, but the guiding discussion questions add a lot to the story.

The Mexican Gothic Book Club Kit is a wonderful supplement to the original novel...think along the lines of DVD Extras. It is dessert for the reader that just did not want the book's world to end. I particularly loved the little bit of historical background and the suggested musical playlist. A family member spotted the paper doll graphics and now wants to print them out and borrow my copy of the book.
