My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this Book Club Kit in exchange for an honest review.
I clicked on this widget thinking it might also contain the book as well. I plan to add this book to my book club's list, even though I had to return the hardcover to my local library before I could finish it.
I laughed when I saw the "Cut Out" dresses for the characters.
There are also a Discussion page with many thought-provoking questions, although my group tends to have no trouble coming up with things to discuss.
A great promotional kit, which I hope I will have the chance to use.

Mexican Gothic lived up to the hype of being a scary gothic horror tale that will have you racing through the entire story to find out what happens next. We follow Noemi as she goes to the Mexican countryside to look in on her newlywed cousin who is not in good spirits, or health. She stays in the gothic mansion that is in complete disarray and soon finds that everything is not what it seems. There is something sinister hiding in the walls around her and everyone in this strange family are hiding a much larger horrifying secret than just the ghost that haunt the space. Something truly evil is living and breathing within this house and it is feeding off the people who are inside. Everyone appears to be the worse examples of themselves, but Noemi is determined to get to the bottom of the strange mystery and save her cousin before it is too late.
Silvia Moreno – Garcia has created a world that is as fascinating as it is horrifying. You can’t help but want to speed through the pages in a fury to find out what happens next while being completed terrified by what is happening around the main protagonists. Silvia’s storytelling is so colorful and detail that you feel like you are living in the house and experiencing the doom and gloom happening everywhere. I found myself reading every chance I had because I had to know what was going to happen next. It was thrilling to have that adrenaline rush from the fear and anxiety you feel with the characters.
Mexican Gothic is a spine-tingling, heart pounding, gothic haunted house tale that will make you sleep with the lights on and see monsters in the shadows. Beware for your eyes may not be playing tricks on you!

I read Mexican Gothic last year and really enjoyed so I was excited to check out this Book Club Kit, which includes a lot of supplemental and background on the history that inspired this novel.

This kit includes:
- A letter from the author, Silvia Moreno Garcia. This was very insightful and gives some helpful background on the mining industry in Mexico that inspired the story!
- Discussion questions. These were pretty straightforward, and I wish they had been a more in depth since this was such a nuanced and complex novel. Still, I think they’re pretty good starting points for a book club discussion.
- A playlist inspired by the novel. Loved this, will definitely be listening to it on Spotify!
- A note from the author on the town of Real del Monte, which inspired the setting of the novel.
- An image of the Doyle family seal.
- A note on the history of gothic romances. Very interesting read if you want to know more about gothic novels and how they've developed and evolved over time!
- A paper doll kit for Noemí. This was really cute, especially since Noemí’s fashion sense plays a large role in the novel. Plus the 1950’s fashion is so cool!

While I would’ve liked more from the discussion questions, the other materials are very interesting and informative. I think this is a great resource for book club discussions or anyone looking to learn more about the story’s background and inspiration!

The Book Club Kit for Mexican Gothic consists of a letter from the author, a picture of the Doyle family seal, discussion questions, playlist, historical information about the location and the gothic romance genre.
This is a reading guide and I wasn’t aware of this, I think it is for post reading discussion. I haven't read the book, so I didn't want to spoil myself. It seems interesting but, I can't exactly rate it.

This is a pretty impressive read. I really like Silvias Moreno-Garcias writing style.
I'm not very familiar with Mexican culture, but it's definitely something new for me, new field to explore.
I liked the story and writing style, easy read, but author makes you believe in what's really happening in this book!

A very good insightful article to the book! The question are basic and I at this will be a very good tool used in book clubs!

The discussion questions seemed basic and were a bit disappointing, but I really liked the short articles by the author - they gave a food perspective on the book and really made me want to read it. The paper dolls were interesting and gave some good atmosphere for picturing the characters.

A really good companion to the novel! Wish maybe it had more discussion questions and topics instead of all the pages of dress-up, but overall a good one!

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book club kit. This book club kit is for a very popular book, Mexican Gothic.

My initial thoughts are concise: I liked the layout, visual representations, and the included interviews. The book club questions are pretty simple and clear, open-ended and designed to encourage easy discussion (thus, good for a book club!). I particularly thought the family seal was very cool. The included interviews, blurbs, and paper doll made this an interesting inclusion for a book club -- if everyone got one of these, it would be a fun little packet. Maybe even with an additional marketing material like a bookmark!

It is a very insightful kit for the novel. Not only does it allow us to have a visual image of the characters and other elements of the novel, it also lets us know what the author's sources of inspirations were.

Really love this Book Club Kit as a supplement to Mexican Gothic. I read this book last year & it was nice to reflect upon a story that has stayed with me! The questions were provocative and the playlist & doll outfits really brought the book to life for me. Would definitely recommend for Book Clubs or anyone who wants to reflect on the book alone!

I haven't read the book, so I didn't want to dive too deep into this in order not to spoil myself. But I did love it as a book club kit, and might use it as well! It has some very cute segments I have seen before!

Overall I found this to be a very useful Book Club Kit, it is short and concise but still contains great material for discussion. I recommend it as inspiration for post-reading discussion.

This Penguin Random House Book Club Kit is such a great idea. It's short and concise, spicing up your book club meeting without making a literal plan or taking up your entire time as a group.

This kit consists of:
- a list of inventive, poignant questions; I love how thought provoking and open they are, welcoming many different points of view in your group
- a letter from the author
- historical context of the book
- a fun playlist curated by the author - that's seriously awesome, almost as though the author was herself attending!
- a diy kit for creating paper costumes for the characters - I personally didn't like it because I know for a fact that my book club won't be thrilled to do paper cutting. Although I really appreciated seeing what the clothes would have looked like in the book.
