I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. An excellent graphic novel for the upcoming Earth Day. Lots of extreme weather in the Pacific Northwest leads Jenna and her friends on a quest in otter Lagoon.

This was a wonderful middle grade that I would recommend to anyone, young and old. I loved the imaginative, dream-like quality that this book had. The characters were so cute and lovely. Action-packed, fun, and brilliant in every way.

This has a bit of a hard edge for a middle grade / ya book, but it is better for it. The main character struggles with the consequences of a bad decision and makes more bad decisions to cover things up and try to fix them, which end up having big consequences for them, their family, the community, and the local (mystical and mundane) wildlife. But it's also a story about community and how friends can help and how it's never too late to do the right thing. The art is charming and nicely colored and the fantastical elements are fun and woven nicely into the plot. Well worth reading.

Though this is part of a series, I don't know that you really need to read them all to understand the general plot. This story is pretty straightforward. There's some messaging here about the things we do for money, the ways that we justify our actions, guilt and moral responsibility. All in all, it's one I admire more for the art than for the writing. The illustrations are reminiscent of Bill Peet both in design and line stye.

A graphic novel for kids set on an island in the Pacific Northwest that is a magnet for strangeness. In this one a sea monster returns once every 100 years. The story follows four friends as they encounter the sea monster. One of them is stealing to try and raise money to correct a mistake she made. It's fun and inventive with lessons of wrong and right. It's the kind of book that would fit in perfectly in a school library.

Vivid and colorful images match a creative story in Otter Lagoon. I would gladly share this book with young graphic novel enthusiasts and enjoyed it much myself.

Otter Lagoon is an engaging fantasy graphic novel and the second book in a series by Mike and Nancy Deas. Due out 13th April 2021 from Orca Books, it's 192 pages and will be available in paperback format.

This is a really fun graphic adventure with a gang of kids, cryptozoology (sea monsters!) an island setting in the Pacific Northwest and a well written plot with lots of action and twists. Despite being the second book in the series, it worked very well as a standalone read and I had no trouble keeping track of who was who.

I enjoyed the story. Although the writing is aimed at younger readers (middle grade-ish), I found the characters well rendered and believable and the narrative arc paced and written well. The magical/sea monster plot element added whimsy and pathos. The art is simple but expressive and supports the storyline. I liked that main protagonist wasn't perfect; she's dealing with ethical dilemmas the best way she can and she learns and grows throughout the book. I also like that the characters are ethnically diverse. It's not played up in the story, but representation is important. Jenna and her little brother Sleeves and their friends are kids and they were written believably as kids.

Four stars. This would make a good selection for public or school library acquisition, home library, gifting, or for a group read-along.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I appreciate having had an opportunity to read and review this book. The appeal of this particular book was not evident to me, and if I cannot file a generally positive review I prefer simply to advise the publisher to that effect and file no review at all.

This is the 2nd book in this graphic novel series. I really enjoyed it! I have always loved the tale of Nessie, so this story was a wonderful treat. The illustrations are amazingly colored and a wonderful art style. The story follows Jenna, a young girl who is trying to raise money to help a dog at the animal hospital get a needed surgery to save his leg. Sadly she has fallen into a life of crime. First by helping a boy steal crab traps and then finding and stealing magical eggs they believe belong to Luna, the Moon Sea Serpent. No Spoilers but I definitely recommend this one! Thanks to #Netgalley for an early review copy.

A fast-paced, imaginative, monstrous adventure filled with mystery, friendship, and the supernatural. A warm, magical read for middle-grade readers.

Good quick graphic novel about a girl who feels badly about injuring a dog while out taking it for a walk, along with the other dogs that she takes care of at the vet. She thinks if only she has enough money, she can help the dog, and save his leg, so she starts to do bad things, such as stealing lobsters from the lobster pots of one of the local fishermen, and finally stealing the eggs of the sea creature that lives in the lagoon.

And of course, things don’t go well when she does.

Good story of friendship, and sea monsters, and being responsible for what you do.
