This is an amazing cookbook and also a beautiful one. That’s no surprise, considering the “pedigree” of the author, Rose Levy Beranbaum. The book is divided by method: rolled by hand, dropped or piped, bar cookies, and so forth, which is a great idea. Sometimes you just don’t want to deal with chilling and rolling out dough! Each recipe is clearly explained and most have gorgeous photographs by Matthew Septimus. Beranbaum includes tips with each recipe for what to have ready ahead of time (“mise en place”), plus “baking gems”, miscellaneous advice and explanations (including some of her favorite brands of flour and chocolate chips), how to store the cookies, etc. Many cookies also list variations to try. There’s an extensive front section with advice on everything from equipment to ingredients. I love that each recipe includes both measurements and weights. I’ve recently started using weights when baking and have found it to be very easy, as long as you’ve got a good scale that will “tare” to zero. Since I had some egg whites in my fridge, I decided to try out her recipe for meringue cookies and was successful even without a pastry bag. There are many more that I look forward to trying soon!

Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A must have cookie book! Rose covers everything from simple cookies to more complicated ones with ease. My favorite part of the book, other than all the great recipes, is that the ingredients were presented in baker formulas along with standard baking measurements.

This cookbook will have you coming back again and again, with it's standard recipe at the beginning and then ways to switch it up with different mix-in ingredients at the end. Leaves endless opportunities to never make the same cookies again!

I can't wait for the 2021 Holiday season to be able to gift this to all the bakers I know.

As a home baker I enjoy reading and looking at new cookbooks dealing with baking. The Cookie Bible is a great one to add to your collection. If you have any questions about baking this book will have the answers. Problems with a cookie you will find the answers. Looking for a specific cookie, if it isn't here you won't find it anywhere else. She gives all kinds of tips and tricks to baking the perfect cookie. Many of these I will start using in my baking. Recipes are given in grams and cups to make it more universally acceptable. I love having pictures of the recipes and the pictures of the cookies are making my mouth water.

Buy this cookie cookbook and refer to it often. Try something new. Learn some background on some of the recipes. Keep the cookie jar filled with all kinds of special cookies. Your family will thank you.

This cookbook gives so many options of cookies to make. I could and would gain 100 pounds! Great photography, easy to read recipes and descriptions. The book covers all types of options and have placed them in an order that will be easy to locate. I can't wait to spend a weekend baking and gifting plates of cookies! Highly recommend for when you Pinterest account it down. It will be a great go to cookbook.

The cookie bible was wonderful with something for everyone. The book is very well organized and thoughtfully laid out. I particularly liked the mise en place section of every recipe which prevented a mid recipe panic if I forgot to take out butter, or realized I didn’t have an important ingredient. I look forward to buying this one when it comes out.

Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I like to consider myself an experienced home baker, which means that I can follow a recipe pretty well and my cookies rarely flop. So I was super excited to check this volume out.

I'm impressed. I was surprised to find myself totally engrossed by the tools and ingredients section which was thorough and informative. I even found myself running to heat up some water to test if my baking powder was still active after reading that bit. Don't worry, it was.

I really appreciate how the recipes are laid out. You have measurements by both volume and weight, as well as notes for substitutions on less common or universally enjoyed ingredients. Each recipe has a Mise en Place section to get you set up and ready to bake. As someone who sometimes has a mid-bake panic when I realize I've forgotten to soften butter, or zest an orange, this section is excellent.

To test, I baked Rose's Dream Chocolate Chip Cookies, the first recipe in the book. Though I didn't brown the butter and subbed dried cranberries for the walnuts (both are written alternatives in the recipe). The recipe calls for measuring out each cookie, rolling the dough and then flattening. This produces a nice, round, uniform cookie. I did the second half of the recipe with the ole two spoon scoop method which produces a less nice looking, but identically tasty cookie.

I'm impressed by the book. Super informative with tons of recipes. Even if this version of chocolate chip cookies isn't my favorite, texture wise. I bookmarked several recipes in the advance copy that I'd love to try and I imagine I'll be adding the physical book to my bookshelf when it's published.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Cookie Bible has something for everyone. Chocolate lover? Try the Chocolate-Studded Truffle Cookies Like things a bit more on the tart side? The Lemon Cranberry Squares are for you. If you are like my husband and do not care for things that are too sweet, the Turkish Ginger Lime Cookies are perfect. The book begins the basics of baking "the Golden Rules" , followed by detailed description of equipment and ingredients. As someone who used to home test recipes for national publication, I look at recipe layout and instructions with a discerning eye. Measurements are provided in both volume and weight - pick your preference or even mix the two. Instruction begin with Mise En Place, which is helpful, especially for novice bakers -you won't be unprepared for any step. At the end of the recipe, there are notes , "Baking Gems" which may provide additional technique instructions or insight into the ingredients. The final section of the recipes are variations - ways to change it up by switching or adding ingredients to your own liking.
The recipe choices cover bars, rolled, dropped, meringues, candies and more. Old favorites and new ones waiting to be discovered are found on the pages. This would be a wonderful gift for the baker in your life, be they aspirational or accomplished. I know itI will be giving out a few copies! My thanks to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have many of this author's cookbooks in my personal collection, and will be adding this one shortly. This book in particular is full of easy, accessible recipes that any baker will love. Many classic cookies and a few new ones too.

The Cookie Bible has some new to me recipes and a bunch of staples.
What I liked about it, was the way the recipes were written down. Concise, with the extra bonus of 'mis en place' info about when to get what out of the fridge so it's not too cold.

From the minute I saw that Rose Levy Beranbaum had a new cookbook, I knew I had to check it out. I LOVE her Cake bible and have used it for several years now with much success so I was hoping I would have the same love for her cookie book. So far, I'm definitely in love! There are several different types of cookies in this wonderfully full "bible" from rolled to drop to cutout and bars. The first recipe I knew I had to try was the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Shortbread and boy, are they dangerous! First of all, quick and easy to make, no egg and the perfect combination of my two favorite flavors, peanut butter and chocolate. These are definitely a cookie that will be on my "keepers" list! They're very delicate so not ones to send off in the mail but for certain ones that will be loved by all in close proximity. I'm also looking forward to trying several others including the Melting Moments, Perfect Lemon Cookies and Whoopie Cookies but the thing that most thrills me about this book is that she includes WEIGHTS! I am a baker and I prefer to bake using my scale (in grams) so when I saw that this book includes the weights as well as measures I was over the moon excited to use it! This is definitely something I wish more cookbooks would do as it provides much better results! So this cookbook is definitely going on my shelf as a "keeper" right along side her Cake Bible!

I’m eager to try the recipes mentioned in the book! Especially loved the tips and baking gems that the author has added to recipe. Another thing I liked is the large number of eggless recipes. Looking forward to baking!
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the ARC!

Right off the bat, I appreciated the way this book laid out its contents - it made so much sense to separate the cookies in this way (i.e. rolled by hand, dropped or piped, rolled and cut, etc.).. The Golden Rules are also extremely helpful and dive into very common sense techniques that will improve any cookie. I also very much appreciated the section on ingredients which really described why certain flours, sugars, etc. are better than others for specific tastes or textures. If I had one criticism, it is minor: The photos used make this book seem a bit dated (more like a 1970s-1980s cookbook).

This was a wonderful compilation of cookie recipes with something sure to please every single person you know. It is quite dense with information, much of it helpful hints and photos, which will be great for those who want as much information as possible, and potentially overwhelming for those who have a good grasp on baking cookies. I appreciate the variety of recipes offered and found I would bake many of the recipes within its pages.

I love this cookie bible! It certainly lives up to its name. The contents are labelled well - from "rolled by hand" to "dropped and piped. All sections are complimented by Matthew Septimus' gorgeous photography of the cookies described. Miro and Shilpa provide a beautiful foreword and describe perfectly how Rose Level Beranbaum has created a masterpiece here. The Driu Augen heart shaped cookies at the beginning set the scene for the book - a cookbook filled with heart. I loved the side by side conversion (US and Metric) on each recipe. It takes out some of the guess work, no matter which you prefer. The baking gems are a nice little section too. This really is the cookie bible and I cannot wait to purchase it on Nov 9th 2021! It will have a place on my cookbook shelf and I can see myself creating all kinds of cookies from it. The holiday section is particularly special as well as the special extras which outline the best ways to make everything from jam to lemon curd. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Love, love, love it! I love my sugar intake all too much and this book might be the death of me! (in a good way. it's not Rose's fault for creating such beautiful recipes. Well... maybe it is! haha) I couldn't stop drooling from all the pictures before me. Gosh. My kitchen is going to smell WONDERFUL in the next few days. Experiments are in process.

I admire how there are little tips and tricks for every single recipe, especially the little "Mise en place" snippet,

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book and leave an honest review.

The Cookie Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum is a beautifully photographed, thoughtfully written gem for any cookie baker. The ingredients are listed by both weights and measures so no conversion is necessary to get to your particular preference. Instructions are clear and the history of the recipes personalizes the baking experience. I found it especially found it fun to think about my introduction to some of these cookies. This is definitely a keeper - I think all the bakers in my family need a copy! Can I give it more than 5 starts?

I genuinely love this - from the way it is organized, to the ideas to the versatility of it all. I love baking, but cookies are not always my think, and I will be enjoying this this summer as I test recipes - I'll be posting a look at some of the ones I liked making next fall and will add it to this review.
