I am so excited about this book. Looking through it I have marked a couple of recipes that I am excited to make, some include churro nuggets, rose’s crescents, palmiers, among others, some that I have never tried but want to. In addition, I love how there are pictures to describe how to fold the dough for the palmiers.

The book has some amazing recipes and pictures, it was already a winner for me, so imagine my surprise when I saw that it includes a cookie recipe for dogs. I am so excited to try that one and to see my dog’s reaction. She mentions that it was her brother’s idea, and let me tell you, he was right!

The only negative comment is that I wish all the recipes had pictures, instead of just some of them, although I do think that the majority do have pictures.

In conclusion, this is an amazing book and would be a great addition to the cookbook collection of every baker.

In the world of digital information there is less need for a variety of cookbooks in the average kitchen. The exceptions will be those books recognized as vital, classic, highly instructional, and a joy to read and use. The Cookie Bible by Rose Levy Berenbaum is all of these. Newlyweds will have it on their registries and home bakers will add it to their shelves regardless of the cookie baking titles already in place.

Each recipe is precise and can be made by either weight or measurement. Temperatures are in both centigrade and Fahrenheit. Photos are so beautiful you can smell the cookies baking. And an author with years of experience and a tremendous reputation in the baking world. This book has everything a cooking reference needs.

I want a physical copy of this title, and I recommend it for gifts. Libraries wanting to ensure each physical book purchase is money well spent will want to add this to their shelves.

A beautifully produced cookbook, packed with delicious cookie recipes, ranging from easy, simple bakes to more elaborate biscuits. I found the baking tips and ingredient suggestions extremely useful, and the level of detail - down to the exact weight of each cookie dough ball, for instance - is invaluable. There are many classic favourites included in this book, such as chocolate chip, peanut butter and oat cookies, but also plenty of recipes from the author's family and friends, as well as more unusual choices. If you love baking cookies, then this book is a brilliant definitive guide, covering everything from shortbread to biscotti, meringues and even brownies.

What a wonderful cookbook! The Cookie Bible has so many mouth-watering recipes. The pictures are gorgeous and engaging. The recipes are some of the best-written and easily followed recipes that I have ever read. I particularly loved the "gems" or hints that are given to make the recipes come out as good as possible and the variations to most recipes that can be done to make the recipes that much more accessible for the reader. Highly recommended book! I can't wait to have it on my bookshelf for good!

There are so many fabulous cookies in this book, that I really don't know where to start to bake. The book is massive and there are beautiful photos of the most amazing cookies on every page.
Not only that but the book starts off with some sensible information and instruction called - Before you start - which has really practical information on making, cooking, and equipment . There are sections on Rolled by hand, dropped or piped, shaped by hand, rolled and cut and included special events and makes.
I love the sesame cookies, the lemon jammies just to name a few. The list is huge and the variety are different and yummy. It will take me ages to eat through this book

Ohhh, this book makes me so happy.

I go on Food Network (more specifically, Worst Cooks in America) binges from time to time, and Anne Burrell heavily emphasizes the importance of mise en place–in essence, gathering all your ingredients together before you start cooking (and in the right format … so that 1/4 cup chopped pecans is, in fact, already measured and chopped). So I chuckled a bit to see Beranbaum’s first “before you begin” tip involve mise en place; I might have read it in Burrell’s voice. (At least it wasn’t another Burrell maxim, browned food tastes good? :D)

I love, love, love the sheer practicality of Beranbaum’s tips, too; I feel like I’m finally “adulting” the right way as I nod incessantly while reading them–whether the importance of trying the recipe at least once as written before incorporating substitutions, or separating equipment used for more odorous ingredients like garlic and using dedicated baking equipment. I might have panicked a little at the emphasis placed on weighing versus measuring, but that’s a great challenge I’m starting to enjoy more as I do it (who’d’ve thunk?). Beranbaum’s exhaustive tips list is incredibly helpful and informative, reminding me that even though I’ve been casually baking for years, there’s always something new to learn, or different (maybe even better, sometimes!) ways to do things.

Comparing (in the best way) The Cookie Bible‘s tip list with Dorie Greenspan’s upcoming release Baking With Dorie (which I also reviewed on the blog here) also proved insightful. I enjoy seeing where different bakers overlap, or diverge, in their advice–as well as contemplating the why behind either. (Maybe there’s a little mini English major in me after all!)

The sheer variety of cookie recipes included here does seem nearly on biblical levels 😀 haha!–and I do believe it ensures that just about everyone will find something, or more likely a lot of somethings, to enjoy both baking and eating. I certainly found plenty to challenge me, and great excuses to visit Williams Sonoma for accoutrements I “need!” Variations provided with many of the recipes help to bring freshness and unique takes on what may seem “old hat.” The pictures are fantastic, as well!

And finally, I appreciated the clarity of recipe instructions provided. Easy to follow, and helpfully explained what to look for (i.e. color and texture).

How lovely to have a new cookie cookbook releasing come the holiday season, just when I particularly love to really experiment, try new things, and make the kitchen smell heavenly (and my tummy feel happy).

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I can see why this is called The Cookie Bible because it is HEFTY. This cookie cookbook is definitely meant for bakers looking to take their cookies to the next level. It is a dense book on par with America's Test Kitchen books that I own — and honestly don't use that often. The Cookie Bible contains nearly every cookie known to mankind, and I like how it is organized by technique: rolled, cut, etc. There's also a great range from easy to slightly more difficult if you want to try your hand at a little of everything. The style is also a bit more old-school — you won't get glamorized shots of food on every page, but you will see realistic cookie photos that are homey and just might warm your heart as you think of grandma's classic cookies. Overall, great for baking fans and truly goes very deep into cookies if you want to focus on working on the art of becoming a cookie master!

Cookies are my specialty. I didn’t know that until my son told someone that at a church luncheon. That’s a lot of pressure! So new cookie recipes are always something I like to try. A whole book of recipes? I was ready for it. Honing in on the most important dessert. With this large collection of recipes within The Cookie Bible, Rose Levy Beranbaum is making me look good. There are all levels of difficulty included. I love to whip out drop or bar cookies for my family, and there is a good representation of old standbys and recipes that are new to me. With these options I will have to double the recipes for my groups. Beranbaum’s batches are too small for me. However for the more difficult cookies, such as meringues and palmiers, a small batch makes the first attempt less scary. The author provides a special “mise en place” section in each recipe also, to force bakers to prepare certain ingredients ahead of time. I enjoyed the article with each cookie type which explains its reason for being in the collection and the story behind the treat. The Cookie Bible is a must have for your baking recipe book shelf.

I loved the recipes in this book. The book has different chapters and the recipes are explained in an easy manner and for everyone's taste.

This is the most thoughtfully written cookbook I have ever seen. The recipes have a short description of what the cookies are like or how they happened to be chosen for the book. The amounts of the ingredients are listed, mostly in grams (which gives greater consistency to the recipes) and often in empirical as well. The method carefully describes what to do to achieve perfect results and each recipe also has a comment box called "Baking Gems" that give additional advice to the baker. There are lovely, enticing photos as well. BUT the appendix is genius! For people with food allergies, there is a list of cookies without eggs, without flour, without eggs or flour, and recipes with just egg whites. This kind of information is invaluable to people with food allergies. This is a beautiful book and anyone who is serious about baking cookies needs this book in their collection.

This book is more than just recipes and I feel like I learned how to finally up my baking game and make a decent batch of cookies. The recipes are easy to follow and the main issue I had was deciding which recipe to try first.

If you love cookies and baking then this is the book for you! The pictures are exquisite and the recipes will leave your mouth watering! The pictures are all in colour and the layout is nice.

This book has a variety of recipes and simply breaks down everything that you would need to know from the basic methods, types of equipment and the different ingredients. It easily describes all the "golden rules" of baking cookies and its contents is divided into seven sections: rolled by hand, dropped or piped, shaped by hand, rolled and cut, holiday cookie cutouts, bar and cake cookies, meringues and candies and lastly the extra specials.

My absolute favourite cookie of all-time is just the plain good old fashioned, "Chocolate Chip Cookie" so I had to try out, "Rose's Dream Chocolate Chip Cookies." This recipe was a bit different than my own as it contained, corn syrup and dark chocolate. I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, can I tell you this cookie just melted into my mouth! My whole family loved it! It was very delicious! 🍪 My kids favourite cookies are, "Gingersnaps" so now we will need to try the recipe from the book. There are so many recipes that I would eventually like to try such as the, "Palm Beach Pecan Biscotti" and the, "Lemon Cranberry Squares" for starters.

I will definitely be purchasing this book as I love hardcopy cookbooks all around my kitchen and this one is a baker's delight! 😋

I'd like to kindly thank NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for granting me access to this Advance Reader Copy.

Wow, this book really blew me away! I am not an expert baker by any stretch of the imagination, but during quarantine, I tried to spend more time in the kitchen and as I enjoy baking more than cooking, it allowed me to dig into this book. I found tried-and-true recipes as well as a great mix of new and interesting ones to try, all of which are listed with detailed ingredients and instructions that were easy to follow. If you're easily swayed by photographs, the pictures included in this book will make you want to try all of the cookies because they are beautiful. No, not all of mine came out looking like theirs (or even most of them), but it was nice to have a book where recipes were accompanied by gorgeous photography. Useful book!

I did not read The Cookie Bible through an educator lens.

Rose Levy Beranbaum did it again with The Cookie Bible. Filled with information, easy to follow recipes, and beautiful photography, The Cookie Bible is a must have for any baker to include in their cookbook collection.

Wow this book is stunning!
They could also have named it Opera Omnia, it's so complete! Apart from the many, many recipes, there are also tips and indications about ovens, temperatures equipment and ingredients. Everything you need to know is here, in great details and clearly described.
This is the only book you'll ever need for making endless cookies.
Now I have to go buy The Cake Bible by the same author!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very long cookbook with A LOT of interesting cookie recipes and wonderful photos!
It really is a cookie BIBLE, there are all types of cookies here. Everyone will find something for themselves.
I am going to use many of these recipes, especially as they contain step-by-step instructions. Additionally, the book contains many useful tips so even someone with little baking experience will be able to prepare delicious sweets. What is more, all measures are included in weight and volume which was a great idea.

This is the only cookie cookbook You need!
Be warned, you'll be craving cookies!

'The Cookie Bible' has a everything you expect out of a baking bible: tips and tricks, equipment information, and a huge variety of recipes! This book starts off with the 'Golden Rules' of baking cookies. I'm an experienced baker and these still provided great reminders and details for me. I imagine they would be invaluable for someone starting out. There are also 'Baking Gems', general tips like where in the oven to bake the best cookies and what to do if rolled dough starts cracking.

The recipes themselves are divided into sections based on how they're made, something I really enjoy. When I do a variety of cookies, it's nice to plan for several of the same method to save time and this makes it so easy. The sections are: Rolled By Hand, Dropped or Piped, Shaped By Hand, Rolled and Cut, Holiday Cookie Cutouts, Bar and Cake Cookies, Meringues and Candies, and Extra Specials. With over 150 recipes originating from all over the world, there is something for everyone. It includes classics like chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread men, and several brownie recipes alongside some new ones like Candied Pineapple Biscotti, Turkish Ginger-Lime Cookies, Tahini Wafers, and Meringue Birch Twigs. There are even recipes for jams, pastry dough, and mini gateau.

No matter the type of cookie or sweet treat, there is something here for you. The pictures are fabulous and inviting, the ingredients are provided with conversions already done for you, and there are even methods for food processor and stand mixer already provided. Other ingredients add other mix in ideas and replacements. As someone with a nut allergy I found this very helpful.

I will say that several reviews have mentioned that some of these cookies require a little more prep than some. I will not disagree. I love baking and so prep is nothing unusual for me. That being said, it can look more daunting than it is. Often the prep is to get something to room temperature or let two ingredients mix together. This are often glanced over in other recipes but still useful.

What a delightful cookbook! I thoroughly enjoyed the photography and the narration alongside the recipes was a great pairing. I had never heard of Rose Levy Beranbaum but after spending time making a few of her recipes from this book- I know she is the queen of all things cookie.

What makes this book unique is the time spent explaining the types of processes to cookie making. You get a full and detailed list of every tool you could possibly need alongside explanation on mixing,. I am a sucker for a classic so the "My Dream Chocolate Chip Cookies" were my first recipe to try in Bernabaum's book. The ingredients although vast- were approachable and I found myself with the perfect cookie. My husband squealed like a school girl to eat these.

Next up- I ran for the Bone A Fidos for a special treat for my 4 legged children. These were a little bit more tough for me to wrap my head around as cracked wheat and rye flour aren't things I could easily find in my neck of the woods. But a quick trip to Amazon delivery helped me get these going and they were worth the work! My pets absolutely loved them.

When you think about a cookbook you want it to be informative and entertaining but more than most- you want inspiration. This LARGE book does all of that in spades. Highly recommend as a wedding gift or for your favorite at home cook!
