I have been following Temperance Brennan’s story for years, so when I found out Kathy Reichs was continuing the series, I read nothing but Temperance’s books until I was all caught up before The Bone Code was released. I was so super excited to see where the story was going, and Reichs did not disappoint. I loved every bit of The Bone Code!

Thank you NetGalley and Scribner for the gifted eBook! I devoured it in record time!

In The Bone Code Temperance’s story continues as she becomes involved with a case that brought up some old memories. Helping out in Charleston during hurricane season, Tempe recognizes many of the details as identical to those of an unsolved case she handled in Quebec fifteen years earlier. In a case that travels between Quebec and North Carolina as well as spanning years of detective and forensic work, this book was very reminiscent of the early days of Tempe.

If I’m honest, the series was starting to get predictable, Tempe was always going out alone, getting in danger and being rescued (a plight where I thought she would have figured it out and been smarter for such a smart woman) so I was worried that this addition to the series would take on a similar stance, but I was so glad to see that was not the case. Don’t get me wrong, there was still danger, suspense and action, but it was very much like the old Tempe in the early days. I gave this one a solid 4 stars, it was one of my favorites out of the entire series!

I read this book and although mystery is my favorite genre, the plot and characters just did not keep my attention. I tried several times to read the book and finally gave up.

This is the 20th in the series and I have read a few of them but, honestly, have not read some in a while so it was nice to catch up with the characters and see what has been going on.

This story is right on point with today’s climate of vaccinations and such. But we also have a murder that brings Tempe right back to a case she worked years ago but never solved. The suspense of the book was great. Having had the break from the series it was great to see that Kathy Reichs hasn’t lost her amazing writing skills.

Can’t wait to stay in touch with these characters from now on since I am caught up.

The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs is the 20th book in the Temperance Brennan series. A past case of Tempe's is coming back in full force. The only issue is one took place in Canada and the other in United States. Can Tempe convince people that these cases are connected and solve them? Oh and she also has to avoid a deadly bacteria that is eating human flesh.

Honestly I am writing this review a little late again but I remember this book pretty clearly. This is the sign of a good book. I thought the mystery was fun. I have just started the series after being in love with the show and I was struggling to get into it. This book pulled me in to the series. It was fast paced and interesting.

Four stars for a read that got me into murder mystery again. Definitely recommend this series. Thank you to NetGalley, Scribner and Kathy Reichs for the free copy. This was an honest review.

Reichs delivers another great mystery but it took too long to get through it - too much description.

I love the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. One trick the author uses is to leave a cliff hanger at the end of each chapter. That makes it difficult to put the book aside. You just have to know what happens next. This is a great mystery with great medical and forensic anthropological information. There are relationships … tension … and, of course, lots of twists and turns. This particular book in the series is a little scarier, simply because vaccines and “big pharma” play a part in the story line. Kathy Reichs has done it again!

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Full Disclosure: I received The Bone Code from Scribner via NetGalley in exchange for possibly writing a review. I've been reading this series from the start, so there was a 100% chance that I would read this with or without the advanced copy. The Bone Code is the 20th (!) book in the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs. If you watched the TV show, Bones, you will be familiar with the name but that's about the extent of it. The show and the books exist in the same world but are quite different. If you've never read the series, you could pick it up here.

As I mentioned, I've been reading these books from the start, and I watched every episode of Bones. I think that qualifies me as a fan. And yet, I will say that I think the books have only gotten better over time. In fact, The Bone Code might be my favorite book in the series so far. While the subject matter remains serious, there is an almost lightness to the writing style now that really makes the book go by quickly. The subject matter of this case actually tied in nicely to a book I recently read on genetics and heredity, not that you need to know anything about those to read this. This may be fiction, but the science is real.

Bonus points for giving Birdie a significant plotline in this book. I love animal characters, and Birdie has quite a personality!

The Bone Code is the twentieth book in the Temperance Brennan series. Temperance is a forensic anthropologist who has worked on a variety of cases. While this could be read as a standalone novel, I recommend reading some of the earlier books first.

In The Bone Code, Temperance gets involved with a case in Charleston that reminds her of a cold case she worked years earlier in Quebec. Meanwhile, a virus outbreak in Charleston is causing panic. Temperance works to connect the two cases and uncover more than just a murderer.

This is a series that I’ve enjoyed over the years. There are a few books in this series that I haven’t read, but I plan to go back and read them soon. Temperance is intelligent and driven in her work. She makes for a strong and interesting protagonist.

The Bone Code is sure to be enjoyed by fans of this series. For readers unfamiliar with Temperance, I recommend checking out this series if you like crime fiction.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love when this writer moves the action between Montreal and South Carolina. It’s always fun to read about places I’ve been. I love this series and this book didn’t disappoint!!!

𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠.

The east coast has been getting hit with Hurricanes so why not read a book about a storm tossing ashore a medical waste container with two dead bodies inside. For an investigation that involves a 15 year old cold case, The Bone Code was smart, gripping, and the detailed forensics felt like I was watching an episode of Bones. This murder mystery story that races across America depicting the evils in this world is both scary and thrilling.

There is a reason why there are 20 books in this series. Kathy is a phenomenal story teller and despite this being part of a long running series this book can be read as standalone. It flows naturally and Tempe is a strong protagonist accompanied by well-drawn supporting characters, all with sharp/sarcastic dialogue it feels as if you’ve known them your whole life. I can’t wait to get my hands on other Temperance Brennan books.

I have long been a fan of Kathy Reichs and her Bones series. I believe I have read all 20 of the books. I love following Temperance Brennan and her boyfriend, Andrew Ryan, once a detective - now private investigator. But this novel was a disappointment - these last two novels - 19 and 20 in the series - have not rang true for me. This storyline, with the idea of a vaccine that is made harmful for profit, is just not appropriate during this time of vaccine decisions and a virus that is still taking people's lives. The storyline was muddled - seemed to be too much filler and lost site of the initial investigation. I also didn't like the changes I find in Temperance's personality - some of her statements about race and social standing were not the Temperance I have come to love in the earlier books. These last two in the series, oddly, seem to be written by someone else. If you are looking to read this series, I highly recommend that you start with the beginning of the series and skip these last two. The older novels are really good.

I usually enjoy reading books that are part of a series, but this title did not bring me much enjoyment. I will admit that this is the first title I have read from this series, so perhaps that is why I did not enjoy it as much as I had anticipated. It required more background that the reader would have from previous books...so I was left taking mental notes of the characters to keep them straight. But I did enjoy reading about strong, older women who still can hold their own without relying on either males and/or family members. That is quite refreshing.

I've been a Temperance Brennan fan before I even read any of the books from watching the TV show. But once I read the first book there was no going back, I couldn't get enough. The Bone Code was no different, it was an edge of my seat story that kept me reading into the early morning hours. Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed something would happen that had things heading in a completely new direction.

I love Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan series and this latest is a another great read. Tempe is on the way to hurricane-ravaged Isle of Palms to visit a friend, when she receives a call from the Charleston coroner. The storm has blown ashore a medical waste container, which contains two decomposed bodies wrapped in plastic sheeting and bound with electrical wire. Tempe recognizes many of the details as those involving an unsolved case she handled in Quebec years ago.. She travels to Montreal to gather evidence. At the same time, health authorities in South Carolina become alarmed as a human flesh-eating contagion spreads. So how are these murders and the contagion related? It appears that someone is protecting a dark secret and willing to do anything to keep it hidden.

If you are looking for a quick reading thriller, do read The Bone Code! Temperance Brennan gets called in to investigate two bodies that washed up on a South Carolina coast that eerily reminded her of a 15 year-old case from Montreal. Plenty of foreshadowing and lots of coincidences (one character mentioned that on a road trip) drive the plot to its violent conclusion. When I have time, may pick up others in series.

this book was much better than the last one. I like that the series is also a bunch of standalones focused on solving one mystery typically. This was exactly up Tempes alley in that there was a mysterious crime to solve and bodies to identify. I loved how the story flowed!

As usual Kathy Reichs takes the reader from Charlotte, NC to Montreal and back again. This time the Isle of Palms, SC figures in the mystery. Bones found in Charleston, SC present day may be tied into a case that puzzled her 15 years ago in Quebec. Add a flesh eating bacteria that threatens the people of SC to the mix. This was not my favorite of her series as some of the medical descriptions were too detailed and took away from the story in my opinion. I always enjoy the repartee between her and Andrew Ryan as they navigate their long distance love life.

Steady pace, good story. Keeps you interested as the mystery unfolds. Twists and turns more than one mystery to solve.
