Thank you William Morrow Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams. I have been a fan of Taylor Adams since i read Eyeshot - I was struck with terror and an appetite for more of his books. Adams' newest thriller is terrifying, riveting, and addictive. The worst part for me was finishng this book because then what....
Hairpin Bridge is set to keep the reader on the edge of his/her seat and introduces us to Lena - a very strange young woman whose sister recently committed suicide off this very bridge. But Lena has her doubts about what happened to her sister, Cambry. So she sets her sights on meeting the last person who saw her alive - a police officer. He pulled her over and shortly thereafter, Cambry plunged to her death off the Hairpin Bridge. But Cambry sent a text to Lena and Lena believes this text is pulling her to that very same bridge. Because Lena doesn't believe her sister committed suicide - she thinks she was murdered. Lena won't rest till she meets this police officer and she will meet him on the Hairpin Bridge.
I don't give out 5 stars easily - but here ya go - 5 stars and all i can say is - I loved this book. Taylor Adams takes you to a new dimension with this thrilling novel. I wasn't sure he could top NO EXIT - but he has - RECOMMEND!

From page one I was immediately invested in the story of Lena and her finding out what happened to her sister. I liked how the story was told through different points of view and also through Lena’s blog posts. There were some creepy and tense moments. I did find some of the chase scenes a bit repetitive and it dragged on for me. Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC!

This book was interesting because every time I thought I knew what was going on there was a new twist. The book's protagonist, Lena wants to find out what happened to her twin sister. Her twin sister had been driving around the country and in Montana sends her Lena a cryptic suicide text.
The story is told from both Lena and her sister's point of view, as well, as Lena blog. It is dark with some violence.

Thanks to Netgalley and Taylor Adams for an early copy.

Yet again Taylor Adams does not disappoint! This book is intense, edge of your seat nail biting intense! Vivid characters, and twists you will not see coming! I couldn’t put it down!!
Taylor Adams, you have a fan for life!

As I started this book, a new author to me, I didn't know what to expect. It is certainly very different from any other books I've been reading and in a good way. Lena is one super woman - think Liam Neeson in Taken. Her twin sister, Cambry, has died while taking a road trip and Lena is sure it's murder but the local police say it's suicide. Lena can't accept that because of their catholic upbringing - her mother would not be able to forgive that. Also, Cambry is the tough twin, she wouldn't just kill herself off like that. We learn much of the back story via Lena's blog as she plans to make a road trip of her own to confront the cop who reported the "suicide". What she finds herself involved in is quite a roller coaster of a ride. I had no idea where this story was going and at times I thought Lena might just wake up (but I didn't know what on earth that would mean). As I said, I've not read a story quite like this but I was so drawn into it I couldn't put it down, nor could I figure out how it would end. I will certainly look for other books by this author and am grateful for the opportunity to read this.

This is an exciting, twisting thriller! Every time I thought I knew what was next, the plot changed in another direction. It centers on Lena's quest to discover what really happened to her twin, after her cryptic suicide note and disappearance on Hairpin Bridge in Montana. The author used narrative from both sisters, and Lena's blog posts to follow the events as Lena discovers not only what happened to her sister, but the dark and sinister events that led to her death. There is suspense, and some extreme violence as Lena uncovers the truth and finds her own life in danger. This is definitely one of those books that kept me turning pages! Thank you to Scene of the Crime and Netgalley for the advance copy of this action packed thriller! (less)

I read Taylor Adams’s No Exit ages ago and remember liking it, so I was really interested to check out Hairpin Bridge, his latest.

Lena Nguyen is grieving the death of her twin sister, Cambry, who supposedly committed suicide at the infamous Hairpin Bridge. But Lena knows something far more sinister happened the night her sister lost her life, so she goes on a mission to find the last person to see Cambry alive, and also the man Lena believes murdered her: a decorated cop.

Hairpin Bridge was a quick read and included some nice twists and moments of great tension. But for a book whose major plot takes place over a few hours, it becomes a bit repetitive after awhile, considering the bulk of it is shootouts in which nobody ever seems to die (and ok already, everything is “crunchy”). This includes Lena’s interrupting blog posts, which all seem to say the same thing.

All in all, an entertaining read, and I liked the ending, but I wish there were more, though I can’t pin my finger on what that would mean.

Thank you to William Morrow, through the Scene of the Crime book group, for making a copy of this available for review.

After Taylor Adams' previous thriller, "No Exit," I was excited to dive in to "Hairpin Bridge." The novel started off with great promise with a suspenseful and tautly-paced plot, but by about the halfway point it sort of just ran out of steam, and by the end, I was ready for the book to be over.

An exciting and suspenseful book. I felt the menace right from the beginning of this book. Taylor Adams is a master at making you feel your character's angst and fear. I was never sure where the book was going and each part kept me spellbound. Definitely recommend,

Hairpin Bridge is a gripping, hair-raising thrill ride, and I couldn’t put it down. I read the entire book in just a few hours in one sitting. That said, I am having a difficult time reviewing it because I’m vacillating between really liking it a lot and not sure if I like it at all.

While the action is thrilling, the descriptions of shoot outs and car chases are perhaps a bit overdone and repetitive for my own personal taste. In addition, the graphic descriptions of violence and gruesome bodily harm were somewhat unsettling for this reader.

I will say that I seem to be in the minority here as I have only seen extremely praiseworthy reviews thus far. Please understand that my own tastes are purely subjective, and this might very well be your favorite book of the year.

All in all, I found it to be entertaining with some shocking twists that I did not at all see coming, and I was engrossed for hours on end.

My thanks to NetGalley, William Morrow and Custom House for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This will be available on June 15, and you’re definitely going to want to grab your own copy.

Twins have that inner sense of what is happening with the other so when Lena goes to Montana to see where her sister Cambry supposedly committed suicide she knows in her gut it isn't true. She finds the state trooper who found her body and knows more than he is letting on. As she digs for the truth she also digs herself into danger. You, dear reader are with her on every hairpin turn, every withheld truth and every second guess. Did she jump? Is Lena safe? I am not telling. Twisted, hold your breath suspense that scared me silly and I loved it. Violence, family relationships, reality vs. perceptions and justice are all explored. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for an e-copy of this title.

Lena’s twin sister, Cambry (love that name), supposedly committed suicide by jumping off the Hairpin Bridge. Three months later Lena still can’t come to grips with her sister doing that, so she takes Cambry’s car and drives to the bridge to meet with the police officer who notified Lena of her sister’s death.

“No Exit” also written by Adams, was one of my all-time favorite thrillers and the one I always recommend to readers that ask for suggestions. I was disappointed that I didn’t feel the same about “Hairpin Bridge.” Although Taylor is a master of description, and he writes about the gun fights that seem to go on and on in different ways, it’s not enough to sustain a 300+ page book. It was told in alternating viewpoints from each of the twins. But they stayed in the same location for most of the book and there were only four characters. Not much in the way of dialogue either.

Lot of reviewers don’t agree with me, so listen to them. But I wanted and craved more action.

Wowza!!!! 😲😯😳 Talk about a high-octane, teeth-clenching, page-turning, unputdownable thriller!

"No Exit" by Taylor Adams is my favorite thriller and one I always recommend, so I was stoked to receive a digital ARC of "Hairpin Bridge" via NetGalley. I wasn't sure what to expect because the reviews seems pretty mixed so far, but I LOVED it!!! It kept me engaged the entire time, no dull / slow parts, just riveting action-packed, edge-of-my-seat thrills the entire way! This is the fastest I've finished a book in ages! I have lost a lot of sleep the last couple nights, staying up reading! 😂 😴

Be warned: this book is a tad dark, and it is definitely gruesome and graphic. If you can't handle graphic violence and dark content, you may want to avoid this one. But if you can stomach it, you must read this when it comes out. What a ride!!

Thanks Taylor Adams, NetGalley, and the publisher for my free copy in exchange for my honest review. ❤

Short Review: A worthy thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and possibly unable to dig your nails out from your armchair.

"You don't really die when your heart stops. You die when you're forgotten."

Long Review: This one starts full throttle and doesn't let up until the very end. Pun intended. It's got car chases, gun fights, snarky dialogue, alternative POV and timeline, and characters to both love and hate. What's not to like?

Here we follow Lena, who is determined to solve the mystery behind her twin sisters death. She's convinced it was not a suicide as it was ruled. What Lena doesn't know, is there is a whole lot more to the story than even she imagined.

I absolutely loved No Exit by Taylor Adams, so I was thrilled to get the chance to read this one. A big thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

Thank you so much to William Morrow for this ARC! Being a huge No Exit fan, Hairpin Bridge is one of my most highly anticipated novels of 2021!
.
"If you mean to hurt a wolf, you pick an area that's advantageous to you. You don't crawl face-first into its dark, dripping den and challenge it to a debate."
.
So where to even start? As goes most thrillers, I do not want to reveal too much in my review and thus spoil. If you enjoyed No Exit, I suspect you will enjoy Hairpin Bridge. it is really twisty, suspenseful, and full of atmospheric writing that I find very unmatched in the world of thriller authors. This isn't a book you want to snack through either, it is GORY and gross - but that only added to the aura of the novel that I feel like Adams sets up so well.
.
Similar to No Exit, I read this book in a little over a day - I just couldn't put it down! This is basically all I want when I read a thriller: an elevated heart rate and a tidy ending. So why did I knock it down a star? Frankly, I am confused. I am not positive I really know what all happened - I'd almost benefit from reading it again to fill in some of the gaps - things I missed as I raced through to the end.
.
That being said, Taylor Adams is definitely one of my go-to thriller authors and this is one you really do not want to miss!

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers for the ARC of Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams. Much like No Exit by Adams, Hairpin Bridge keeps you on your toes with a smart and savvy female lead, I enjoyed the twists and turns of this story, and didn’t see most of it coming. If you like a precarious plot that could easily tip sides, check this one out.

Well, clearly I'm in the minority so far with my feelings on this book, so perhaps take this with a grain of salt. There were so many implausible events in this book - way too many to overlook. I also found the plot boring in that it literally only took place within the span of a few hours, centering around Lena's confrontation with the cop who found her dead sister a few months earlier. Was it a murder or did she really commit suicide? Lena is here to find out. There were some flashbacks to the events ending up to the death of her sister, but nothing exciting or different. I felt like I had to know how it ended so I forced myself to finish, but this isn't one I'll be raving about upon release, unfortunately. I saw similarities to No Exit, but that was the better book by far in my opinion. Hairpin Bridge was a bit of a trudge, only able to be finished as quickly as I did by skimming over so many redundant, implausible scenes.

I really enjoyed No Exit, so I was looking forward to this one. It's definitely action-packed, with much of the narrative consisting of car chases and shoot outs and a lot of grievous bodily harm that doesn't seem to slow the characters down.

The protagonist is once again a resourceful young woman. Seeking the truth about her twin sister's alleged suicide, Lena Nguyen comes to Hairpin Bridge to meet the cop she believes is responsible. There follows a stand off in which bits and pieces of the past are revealed, variously by way of the cop, Lena's blog posts, and some strange flashbacks from the sister's perspective purportedly written by Lena (when?) that become problematic as the story progresses.

While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much due to the structural issues and repetitive action sequences, I found it to be an entertaining thriller with some surprising twists.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy.

4.5 stars. This book was great! Lots of action and I couldn’t put it down. I think I read it too fast. Ha I read the authors other book, No Exit and it was great as well. This one didn’t disappoint at all.
Twin sisters at birth and one dead. Lena trying to solve her sisters murder that was ruled a suicidal bridge jump and she know it wasn’t true. Lots of twists and turns in this story.
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy of this book. Can’t wait to share with others.

When Lena Nguyen's twin sister, Cambry, jumps to her death off a bridge in Montana, something doesn't add up for Lena. Most of all, the "suicide note" text message to Lena seems to implicate the officer who discovered her body and she means to get answers or revenge, whichever she deems necessary. Yet, her meeting with Officer Raycevic on the very bridge does not go as planned and Lena will have to fight for her life while also uncovering some hard truths about the sister she thought she knew.

As with No Exit, another novel by Taylor Adams, Hairpin Bridge is a tad bit unbelievable yet, you cannot look away from the action-packed, nail-biting, often grizzly details of the book. It's highly entertaining and a great escape read for when you want something with a bit of an edge. Lena was not your average main character. I loved all of her quirks and that she was often underestimated. Nothing is quite as satisfying as sticking it to the person who doesn't think you're a threat. There were a few times where I was unsure of how some pieces fit or how things would be resolved but in the end, it all came together. I loved the ending. It was a bit of redemption that the story needed. The book does delve into mental health issues so that is a possible trigger for some readers.
