Fierce Cowboy Wolf by Kait Ballenger is the fourth book in the Seven Range Shifters series. What a fun book to read. Each book can be read as a stand alone story, but to fully enjoy this world created by Ballenger, you need to read from the beginning of the series.

The skill of the author to create a world filled with such detail and ceremony makes me wonder if it's really make believe or not. Fierce is the story of Sierra and Maverick. The current packmaster and his best friend's younger sister. But the story is so much more than just about these two characters.

The series is filled with intrigue, deception, power plays as well as love, family and struggles. Ballenger has a way of creating characters that are so realistic with their personality quirks, their wit and their internal growth and struggles. Each book has the core characters we've been introduced from the earlier books as well as characters who hopefully will be getting their own stories in future books.

If you enjoy a good story, with shape-shifting wolves as the main characters, you will enjoy this series. I received a copy of this book from net galley in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own and I truly recommend this series and this author to those who enjoy paranormal stories.

This is book 4 in the Seven Range Shifters series and it could be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading this series in order to get a better experience with it. Sierra has trained her whole life to become a warrior for her pack. And once she is finally nominated, she just needs the council to approve her nomination. But they won't approve her without her having a mate. Maverick has accepted that he will live his life alone. And now he is in negotiations with the Seven Range clans and needs a warrior. This is the chance they both have been waiting for. But can they learn to work together not only for the good of the clans but for the things they both need?

I loved how their relationship came about. Yes, they both need something in order to bring not only the good of the pack but what they need to be happy as well. They have this chemistry that I wasn't expecting but really loved. But they also aren't afraid to put the work in and work towards the relationship they want. This book is not just about the romance though! There is action and suspense and even humor involved in it. I really enjoyed it and loved how everything came together!

The fourth book in the Seven Range Shifters series. It truly helps to understand the complicated dynamics of this story if you read the others in order before you read this book. This is Maverick and Sierra's story. They have a very long convoluted backstory with Maverick unable to acknowledge his love for Sierra because of pack politics. This sets him off on a path where he withdraws into himself and loses who he truly is. Sierra, meanwhile is rising up and discovering her true value in the pack.

This is a wonderful story of growth and female empowerment in a male dominated world. The characters are well developed and intriguing. The secondary characters play a strong role in this story so it does help to read the previous books. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Received as an ARC from Netgalley and Sourcebooks. Thank you so much.

This is the fourth book in the Seven Range Shifters series, I have a confession to make I haven't read the previous books, I just took one look at this cover and clicked to read. Shallow much?!

I am sure not having not read the previous books means, I have missed out on a lot of background with Maverick and Sierra, I get the feeling the tension between these two has been brewing for some time. Maverick Grey is the pack master of the seven ranges clan. entering in to treaty negotiations with other clans he needs someone at his back and there is no-one better than Sierra Cavanaugh first female elite warrior in Grey Wolf history. However for her to take the position she has to find a mate, so Maverick decides the only solution is to take her as his own and kill two birds with one stone. We can see from the outset that both their wolves are attracted to each other, which makes for entertaining reading. Both their human counterparts are proud, strong and totally self sufficient, having to learn and trust each other is definitely a learning curve. The chemistry keeps the book interesting and I found I was routing for their relationship to work out. I really enjoyed the book, I just didn't love it.

Thank you to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca for an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Open your heart

After much has kept them apart, Maverick and Sierra finally have their chance at an HEA if the can overcome much.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

I enjoyed Fierce Cowboy Wolf so much! It was fast- paced, romantic and interesting. I liked both main characters and I especially liked how Sierra went after what she wanted and how Maverick was very honorable, though misguided in some things. It's not exactly an enemies-to-lovers because they loved one another before falling into dislike and in this book they didn't spend a lot of time hating each other at all. Though there was some steam, there could have been more (which everyone who spends 30s on booktok knows).
I did think that the last portion was a tiny bit lackluster, the main mystery being resolved too easily, but nothing that would ruin the enjoyment of the whole novel.

4.5 stars

A strong female looking for acceptance in a male dominated society. An alpha male set in his ways having to compromise his heart. This book is a well written, descriptive story with strong characters all around,. Sierra is Maverick's best friend's little sister and the tension between them is palpable. Entertaining Read!

Sierra and Maverick made a good couple together (although it took a little to sort through old hurts & foolishness). they grew up together (he being her brother's best friend) but when the time came that he took over the pack and was required to mate he was "advised" to choose another by her father & other elders. he's been a widower now for 5 years and believes that as packmaster he can't have love. when efforts to bring more modern (and equality) practices brings pressure for both to find mates, opportunity arises but will the sparks that still flow between them burn bright and steady or flame out? there was definite chemistry btwn the two characters (though the book wasn't quite as spicy as I expected based upon early interactions & that sexy cover) and they balanced each other out when they weren't fretting or fighting their feelings. flashbacks to when they were young gave nice insight and added to the story depth, revelations of pack hierarchy secret traditions were interesting and the danger plot while not overly large had it's own surprises. overall this was a good read.

3.75/5

Wolf shifting cowboys? Absolutely count me in and I don't regret it one bit. I probably should have paid a bit more attention that this was book 4 in a series. Thankfully Kait did a great job saying who was who, but curiosity definitely got the best of me, so I'll be going back to from the beginning. There were some holes for me when it came the packs and the politics though, which I'm sure I'd have a better idea when I go back.

I really liked Sierra's character, she was a strong heroine that can hold her own. But my heart broke for her a little bit when it came to her love for Maverick. The angst lover in me was here for that element and I was eager to see how it would all unfold.

With that being said, I honestly didn't think it was going to take so long for Maverick to truly move past everything. Because he was so firm on keeping their status at just a marriage of convenience, it felt like we were just going in circles of him denying his feelings the entire book. And that took up their time to just BE together. I definitely found him to be the most frustrating.

Even though he was infuriating, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. This combo absolutely worked for me, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

Sierra Cavanaugh has been training to be an Elite Warrior, a female hasn't held, and she needs the Elder Council's approval. The letter from them informing her that they declined her. Sierra decides to take it up with the Packleader, Maverick Grey.

Maverick has always done what is best for the pack, including following orders to marry Rose, whom he blames himself for her death. Mav has convinced himself that it's safer for all that he doesn't choose another mate.

So no one is as surprised as Mav, when Sierra finds him to give him a piece of her mind and he proposes, which she immediately declines. There has been pressure on him to find a mate and Sierra's application hedges on finding a mate. In the midst of Sierra explaining why she doesn't want to marry him, an attempt on Mav's life is made.

It's not until Sierra's friend, Dakota, questions Sierra's frame of mind for saying no and offers her another perspective. From Dakota's point of view, there are many pluses and comes up with a solution for Sierra, to get a happy after.

After saying, yes, to Mav, Sierra's plan is simple she needs his help and since it's a marriage of convenience he shouldn't mind that the outcome of this help takes him out of the picture. Except Mav doesn't like it one bit, and decides to make a plan of his own.

The wedding must go on, all while the pack seeks to find who it is that wants to take Maverick out.

The chemistry between these two is perfect! Mav is the broody loner that keeps to himself and has a few secrets. He believes his leadership is defined by putting his own happiness last and to risk that puts the pack in danger. How he's kept the pack safe has lead to others referring to him as a monster. Sierra has loved him since their youth. She is tough and knows what she wants in a mate, most of all his love. Sierra believes that she can heal him until she stumbles across a deep secret grief. I liked how Sierra faced the situation head-on that she had to love Mav for all of his parts and that meant he may never love her the same way. She sought a new path for Mav's benefit, which lead Maverick to come to new realizations.

I wanted to shake both of them because it was obvious how much they felt for one another despite all the obstacles they each put in the way. The scenes where Sierra and her friends planning for the wedding were funny. Sierra's horse, Randy, appropriately named, and her pet chicken, Elvis were loads of laughs. This book has loads of humor and will have you rooting for Maverick and Sierra. Reading this book had me believing in wolf shifters and their world!

I requested and received an ARC from NetGalley via Sourcebooks Casablanca and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

Wolf shifter Sierra wants to be the first female elite warrior but the elder council says that she needs to be married first. Packmaster Maverick offers to marry her in name only. Sierra has loved him all her life so she agrees. If that wasn't enough drama someone is trying to kill Maverick. Action packed, steamy, shifter romance.

Fierce Cowboy Wolf by Kait Ballenger
Book 4 of the Sever Range Shifters series. Wolf pack shifter romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series.
Sierra has been training as a warrior since she was a child. When the Council of Elders declined her final authorization because she has no mate, Maverick offers an option that will change both their lives.

A complicated pack bureaucratic adventure.
Includes: “for the good of the pack” sacrifice; friends to lovers troupe with a few steamy sex scenes, betrayal with a traitor in their midst suspense, political concerns from multiple factors, and a long ago loss that’s complicated with levels of guilt.
So much to overcome, but HEA guaranteed.

Engulfing detail and epic storyline. It was nice to have the cameo appearances of the couples from the previous stories.

Excerpt:
“You’re a safe choice for me, someone I can trust to have honorable intentions. We may not see eye to eye all the time and you may be a total grump, but I know you won’t hurt me.”
Him? A grump? He quirked a brow. No one had ever dared call him grumpy before…
And of course, he wouldn’t hurt her, but him? A safe choice?
No one had ever dared consider him a safe anything.”

I received a copy of this from NetGalley.

Kaitlyn Ballenger has written an impressive woman empowered book. She's definitely backed up by her man. I found it a little hard to follow at times but the story kept me interested.. I enjoyed this amazing book and look forward to many more.

Sierra, a wolf shifter, has worked her whole life to become the first female in the elite warriors team. The ruling council says she must find a mate first. Maverick is the alpha of the Grey Wolves pack and nominated Sierra for the elite warrior. The council thinks Maverick need to be ensuring his heritage lives on. Maverick then decides to propose to Sierra, she’ll become a warrior and he’ll have the council off his back. But someone is out to kill Maverick and they figure it’s someone close to them. Between finding the enemy and keeping Sierra at a distance, Maverick could lose the person he cares the most about. It took me a little bit to get into the story but once I did, I couldn’t stop reading. Action, mystery, and a little sex. If my review doesn’t make sense I’m sorry. This was hard to review, for me, because I didn’t want any spoilers. * Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *

I love a strong heroine and Sierra was definitely that. I'm not as big of fan of the misunderstanding trope.

Decent story that moved the series along - I had to read the previous books first.

Good story.

Sierra Cavanaugh has worked hard for years to become an elite warrior. Thanks to training in the wolf pack and the special team of the human army, she is as strong and deadly as any man and most wolves. Unfortunately the Elders are stuck in their ways and are against her.
She also has another reason for wanting to be the best, but doesn't want to admit that even to herself.
Packmaster Maverick Grey puts the welfare of the pack above everything and anyone else. It's not easy trying to keep enemies at bay and the pack safe. Several treaties that are in negotiations are at risk. The Elders are being stubborn as usual, and add conditions of their own.
Tension and emotions run high in this paranormal romance. There is a lot of danger and some steamy scenes. You will easily get involved with our characters lives and the story itself is really great fun.
This is part of a series that is better read in order, but you can still enjoy each book on it's own. I will definitely be reading the whole series.
I loved it.

Fierce Cowboy Wolf
Sierra and Maverick
Kait Ballenger
Maverick is the wolf packmaster and a tortured soul who cannot love another. Sierra is a warrior who has loved him since she was a girl. Will she be able to break through?
This is a fast paced sexy paranormal. Sierra is a heroine for all romance readers who seek a strong independent heroine. She is a warrior who blazes a trail in the pack and who goes after the packmaster who seems untouchable. While Maverick seems to be the stoic gruff hero he is one we can love as his love unfolds for Sierra. Great characters, an old trope with new life : you’ll fall in love with this book.
I would recommend this book to my patrons.

This is a wild ride of a read. Literally. Sierra seems to be titling at windmills in her quest to be become the first female Warrior. Never mind her desire for Maverick. So much push and pull in this story. Such a good read.

First off you can read this as a stand alone, I did. You will also enjoy reading it. Maverick is protecting his heart too much that he is going to lose the best thing in the world to him, Sierra. Sierra just wants women to have equal everything to men and of course there are men who want to stop that. There is a lot of push and pull in this book to get to the end but I think it is all worth it. I will want to read the next book to see how everyone is doing after reading this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily after being sent a free book.
