Absolutely magnificent photos and illustrations, highly recommend this book. It clearly explains the Hawaiian volcanic islands and activity as well as incorporating cultural information and history. Very interesting read that will keep kids engaged and answers many questions about volcanic activity in Hawaii. It also includes information about the effects of volcanoes on oceans and ecosystems.

Was able to read this in one sitting since it was geared towards kids. Nothing new that I have not already read about but explained well for kids to understand. Recommended for kids who want to learn more about natural disasters, geology and earth science.

Thanks to Netgalley, Mary M Cerullo and Capstone Editions for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reasonable look at the science of volcanoes, from rift volcanos and deep see vents to predicting them and how their lava impacts on marine life. However, this struck me as being very much in a jumbled-up fashion, telling us its information in a different order to what I would have thought best. Also, being heavily concentrated on Hawaii it does seem to be gunning solely for the North American market.

Thanks for the opportunity to review this young reader nonfiction about volcanoes. This book reminds me of something I would’ve looked through as a kid in the science unit! It’s colorful, engaging, and age appropriate. It begins with a modern story about volcano eruptions, then moves into what volcanoes are and the science behind them and eruptions. There are charts, graphs, pictures and colorful layouts that are both aesthetically pleasing and informative. I highly suggest for classrooms or for library collections, as I am sure this would look great in print. I reviewed it on my tablet and it was fantastic.
