What could be better than building your own library? And not just a library full of books, but a library that’s filled with unlimited ice cream and an awesome playground, too. The main character builds her dream library with the help of all kinds of magical creatures and this book is truly a celebration of books and imagination. I would definitely recommend this story to all young book lovers. The illustrations were bright and colorful as well.

This picture book is an ode to book lovers and libraries and perfect for kids who can't get enough of reading. Ever wanted to build your own library? Well, the protagonist of So You Want To Build a Library has a few ideas of how it should be done. And let me just say I wouldn't mind a water slide and an ice cream sundae booth in my library, either! Such a fun and cute read that I can imagine bookish kids absolutely adoring.

Cute...and eclectic. I don’t really have more to say about it because as long as it helps children foster a love of reading and a high regard for libraries then it’s all good.

This book was wonderful. It captures a Childs perfect vision of what a library should have. I would be lying if I said it didn't capture mine as well. The pages were bright and colorful. It had something for everyone. I love the ladders from floor to ceiling and the big comfy chair. The small nooks for the fairy's and of course the slides. My daughter loved the book as well. She will be reading it again and again.

I adored reading this book! As a longtime library lover who can appreciate the most fantastical imaginings, Lindsay Leslie certainly delivered everything I never knew I wanted in a library and I had so much fun reading this story. The art style stuck out to me as it was vibrant and so dang cute! My favorite illustrations were of the "floofiest" chair (which I so badly want to curl up on) and of all the story characters working hard to build the library. It transported me back to when I used to dream of designing my very own library and made me wish I would've thought to include a full-service sundae bar.

This is a perfect book for getting children excited for going back to school and getting anyone excited to go to the library!

Thanks to NetGalley and the author/artist for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Author Lindsay Leslie provides copious license to the wings of her imagination in this utterly compelling and captivating picture book for children. Even though the cover of this Capstone Edition declares that the book is for children, there is no semblance of doubting the pleasures that it gives to all and sundry. To a great extent this is facilitated by the exemplarily brilliant illustrations, courtesy, Aviel Basil.

So how does one build a library? This question forms the quintessential theme behind the book. From the physical materials to real estate infrastructure, the author lets her imagination run wild and the result is a fulfilling laugh riot! And as Leslie warns her readers in no uncertain terms, there has to be dragons in the library. There is no compromising this indispensable requirement. The simple reason being, “every book – and library – is made better by dragons.” However, the dragons need to be appropriately trained.

My mind keeps traveling back to the illustrations. Set out in splashes of bold yellow, adorned with a bewitching tone of dark blue, punctuated by refreshing red and interspersed with judicious dollops of green, every illustration is a joy to behold!

(So You Want to Build a Library by Lindsay Leslie is published by Capstone and will be available beginning 15th August, 2021)

This is cute celebration of books and libraries. An imagined perfect library has ladders, a bathtub, and a full service sundae bar. And of course, most importantly, books! With appearances by helpful giants and fantastical fairies, this is a sweet and funny book.

In this adorable book, the author and the illustrator work together to help a child build a library. Classic story book characters like giants, fairies, and knights help the child explore the best locations to build (outer space?!), what it should have (window...definitely windows), and of course all the different types of BOOKS!

This book is perfect for the beginning of the school year, a welcome back to story time at the library, or even for a STEM activity!

4.2 Stars

The first word that comes to mind is aww! This is a cute little book about a girl who wants to build the best, biggest, and a most wonderful library. It’s full of imagination and fun with giants, dragons, teeny faeries, and whatnot.
There are books for everyone, stacked so high that you’ll need tall ladders. There’s unlimited ice cream to eat, a playground to play in, and just about anything a kid would want.
The illustrations are lively, cheerful, and warm. There’s really isn’t a story per se. It’s more of an ode (of sorts) to booklovers and libraries. Still, it’s a delightful book.
Thank you, NetGalley and Capstone Editions, for the ARC.

I have always loved going to the library and the thought of building my own library was enough to make me want to read this book. The little girl in this story had such a contagious energy about her love for libraries and stories that it will help anyone imagine their own library and how they would build it. I love how she incorporated not only books, but all the things she enjoys as well. What a fun way to introduce youngsters to the idea of designing their own library or reading space. Their ideas might be inspiration for the local, school, or home libraries they visit! Encourage them to share their ideas.

Absolutely adorable!!!

A little girl plans how she would build her own library and all the wonderful things she would use inside - along the way we meet giants, fairies and, of course, books!

The perfect addition to any school or public library.

Who doesn't love a library? Thousands and thousands of books to choose from. You can take them home or read there. A little girl who loves books so much wants to build her own. So she does, with the help of her book friends. This is an adorable story of a girl using her imagination to create the library of her dreams. And what a magical and fun place it is! With colorful illustrations my six year old daughter enjoyed reading this.

Thank you Netgalley and Capstone for the opportunity to read this book.

Okay. No questions here. This is my storybook. Like MY STORYBOOK. Like how Ross Gellar shouts "MY SANDWICH" at the top of his lungs and he gets referred to the psychiatrist. Well, things aren't that dramatic in real life but this is my storybook and I will love this storybook forever.

The concept is so close to my heart. As I am in the process of building a library since the beginning of the year, this storybook talks to me.

I love the little girl and how she loves books. And the way she plans to build the best library on her own is quite something I can relate to.

The illustrations and the colorful pages are everything!

Thank you, author/artist and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

This picture book for young listeners follows a child who builds and stocks the library of their imagination. It is definitely not like the usual neighborhood facility but rather one created out of whimsy and wishes. It is pretty inviting. The accompanying illustrations are lively and this library looks like a fun one.

My quibble is that the real library may not seem as magical as this one so this book is not really one to show children what a trip to the library is like. They may be disappointed in the real thing which would be a pity!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

This was a truly fun and whimsical book to read! While my daughter is not really into magical creatures yet, I know many young readers are! The illustrations are beyond fun! What little kid doesn't want to make there own library?! I love how it was showing how far your imagination can go! My favorite part about this book is the colors and the pictures, they caught my eye big time! My eyes were wandering on the same page for quite some time!

Thank you!

I received an arc for an honest review.

I loved the whimsical and colorful illustrations. The concept of a library as a treasure trove of characters and objects is such a wonderful one. The little girl sets out to build a library using daily objects and help from a giant, knight, sloth and other fantasy characters. It is such a explorative book. A child could really immerse themselves in this world. Absolutely recommend.
