This was a great book about two siblings, one a cis boy and one a trans girl. I loved how, even though there was a focus on the cis brother (it is told from his perspective), it doesn’t center cis experiences in a harmful way but instead feels like a great resource to help children who are struggling with some aspects or their sibling being trans or are unsure/scared to do/say something wrong.
The concept of transgender is explained really well and the book does a good job of not reproducing outdated or harmful definitions and I was happy that being trans and/or non-binary is described as nothing unusual but is instead „normalised“ in a way and I was especially glad that non-binary was presented as an option. There were a few things that could have been worded a little better but overall I think it was well done and I hope it reaches many children, whether they are queer or not.

I love this book. I love that it is written from the perspective of the sibling of a trans person and their reflection and reaction to change. I thought the author (obviously the personal experience helped) captured the feelings of a child, and sibling so beautiful. It didn't feel like an adult imagining what a child might feel. I loved that it was honest AND a celebration. It wasn't forced or tokenistic. I've actually already recommended to a whole bunch of people including a few teachers. This is one of the best books I've read about trans children and queer families.

Such a beautiful book on the bond of siblings and understanding pronouns. I feel parents should introduce such words and understanding when the kids are growing up. I liked how the story focused on this specifically. I wish I liked the illustrations better than I did.

An important storybook. I am so glad to have read it.

Thank you, author/artist and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

This was a wonderful book on a very important topic. It had me in tears, and I’m a very proud, but butchie gay woman. Yup, crying like a baby! This book is warm, loving, accepting, and welcoming. If it were only this simple for us all to come out like this. Which is why this particular book is so crucial in bookstores and retailers. I also have to give props to the illustrator, Linus. The team of Karlsson and Curci is the team I want to be on! I certainly hope to see more from them in the future. So much so that even though my child is nearly 28 and I have no more children at home; in addition to me having read this in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley, I’ll still be buying a hard copy of this book! Being in the LGTB+ community, May I also say thank you to the author, illustrator, and publisher.

I loved this. And the author's note at the end about basing the book off her family's experience. It's entirely true that we need stories about the LGBT community but also about those learning how to be good allies for their loved ones. It's a cute art style, felt true to age, digestible for young kids but without dumbing anything down. If I had any little kids in my life, I would totally buy this for them.

An older brother working through his feelings and understandings over his younger siblings gender transition... it would be a great learning tool for families going through this same situation.

My Sister, Daisy is a beautiful picture book. Narrated by a big brother, it tells the story of how his little brother was born and they played together as children. One day his little brother came home and said he was a girl, and his name was Daisy. He explained he now wanted his pronouns to be she/her. Big Brother and his parents question it, but they accept it. “I realized that you were still the same person, and we could play the same games. We still had fun!” The family uses books to educate themselves and other childhood friends on being transgender.

The book goes through the emotions of the big brother where he has good days, but bad days where he is frustrated and called Daisy by the wrong name. He was also jealous of the new clothes and items Daisy gets. He expresses his frustrations to his parents, and they tell him, “Daisy is the same person. And now we understand what to call her and who she is inside.” The family works through it, and it ends on a happy note.

The illustrations are beautiful, and I love the note from the author at the end describing when their daughter figured out, she was transgender. The author couldn’t find any good books to share with her older son to understand so she wrote this book. I love that.

I thought this book was a great book to explain transgender to all kids. It’s a bit young for my 10-year-old, but she has been asking questions, so we read it together. It helped her a lot to understand what transgender means.

Overall, My Sister, Daisy is a wonderful children’s picture book that explains a sensitive subject in a heartfelt way.

This beautiful and powerful picture book is a great choice for readers everywhere. Daisy’s older brother is excited to have a new sibling and they quickly become best buddies until things change. When his sibling tells him she is a girl and wants to be called Daisy he needs to adjust to this change while understanding what this means for him and their relationship. Can they still be best buddies? Based on a true story, this book covers an important topic with love and compassion showing readers the value of empathy and understanding. This book will help children and families process gender identity, the value and importance of which is immeasurable. The illustrations are beautiful, diverse and portray the characters in a positive light. I would certainly recommend this wonderful story.

This is my recommended children's book of the year! Stunningly beautiful, and such an important message. It's a story I wish every parent would share with their children. Embracing and understanding a transgender sibling (or child) is a delicate and wonderful message. Here, based on her own experiences, author Adria Karlsson tells the story of acceptance in a perfect way. The illustrations are really wonderful too. With important voices like this, we can truly begin to cause important change in our families and society. Love is Love is Love.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet and informative book for children! The language is appropriate for a younger audience (4-7 I would say) and the illustrations are bright and beautiful. I would love to see a partner book for parents that's more instructional on how to talk to the siblings of trans children, but as a children's book it's wonderful on its own. I hope this can help more families!

Not another picture book making me cry. The beautiful way Daisy's parents handle everything and their instant acceptance just really gets to me. Wow. A must read book for so many.

Also totally agree - dresses are a lot of fun to spin around in.

Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

✨ The story is about a young boy who is very excited to have a baby brother. They are the lovable brothers until one day the baby brother realises that he is comfortable with his identity as a girl and so wants to be called Daisy.
Now, the elder brother must learn and adapt to the changes - including what it means for him and their relationship.
✨ This was my first LGBTQ+ community children's book and I loved it. As a child, I never read any literature book regarding the topic and that was the reason I learnt about the community only when I was in high school. I think books like this must be included in the school curriculum since they may help children learn about identities and also help queer children's with their confusion.
✨ The story feels very genuine as it is written from the author's experience. It also shows a fresh perspective of a child who have to come to terms with his sibling's identity and also with his own insecurities.
✨ The artworks were great as well and went well along with the storyline. The book is very short yet very emotional.
✨ I would recommend this sweet and amazing book to everyone.

A very educating picture book about identity and sexuality, as well as how to communicate with those around you who feel trapped in their sexuality and be on their side. I loved how people around Daisy are understanding and supportive.

A beautiful book with a very realistic perspective! This is a story of how a brother comes to terms with his younger sibling's trans identity. A unique book that looks at trans children from a sibling's perspective and how to realize gender doesn't change who someone is and how we can continue to love and care for them.

Thank you NetGalley and Capstone for this copy for early review!

This book is so important and it was both so well-written and beautifully illustrated.

I ended up finding this book while scrolling through the LGBTQIA titles here on NetGalley and I am so excited that I found it. It is so important for books like this one to exist in order to teach kids (and adults) about gender identity.

This book is told through the eyes of an older brother who is one day told that his younger brother is actually his younger sister who now goes by she/her pronouns and she chooses the name Daisy. The story overall is very beautiful and I highly recommend this book!

My Sister, Daisy is a great children's book to teach acceptance and love. Daisy's older brother tells the story of his brother realizing that he is a girl in Kindergarten and wants to be called Daisy. He has some questions and learns to accept that is brother is now his sister. The family is accepting of Daisy and the message of support and love is strong. This book provides an introduction for a discussion of love and acceptance. I loved the colorful illustrations. This is a great story for families with a transgender loved one. Thank you to NetGalley for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read this e-arc to my 7 year old daughter. She understood the concepts, loved the illustration, and it opened an easy dialogue about what she's been feeling about her gender. Definitely recommended for school libraries everywhere

If you are looking for a perfect read for your primary school kid for this pride month, this must be it. My sister, Daisy is a beautiful little book about two siblings who thought they were brothers until the younger brother attends kinder garden and wants to be referred as girl. The story portrays how this family supports the kid's decision, gives her a new name and supports the older kid in accepting his sibling's identity. I would strongly recommend this book!
