Sasha has one speed- fast! She loves to do lots of things at once! Mr. Sloth has one speed- slow! Can he teach Sasha to stop and smell the roses 🌹 once in a while?!
Seriously this book is adorable! We read it and loved it! I asked my 6 year old what she liked best and.... “the pretty pictures!” (Imagine in a slow sloth like voice!) 😂

I'm definitely pre-ordering Mindful Mr. Sloth by Katy Hudson! The illustrations are amazing! So colorful, fun, detailed, and whimsical. Wonderful diversity and inclusivity in the cast of characters, too. Most of all, I adore the message of finding calm and stillness, and being mindful. There are so many wonderful things to notice along the way, if only you can take the time to stop and appreciate them.
I thought this book was cute, and a way in which to bring the idea of mindfulness to young readers. I believe there could've been a better adjustment of the main character to understand the thought process of the sloth instead of immediately learning to slow down.
Mindful Mr Sloth tells the story of Sasha who is always in a rush! She has so much to do but so little time. When she meets Mr Sloth she has to slow down and learn to enjoy things at a slower pace.
First, I really liked the colourful and happy illustrations - they add so much to the story. I think it is definitely a great conversation starter with your little one. Why is it important to enjoy the things you do, why should you connect with nature, why should you sometimes slow down etc.
I would give this book to my friend's toddler if it was written in our language!
Sasha is always on the go. She has many interests and always tries to tackle them quickly so she can hurry and move on to the next. Then, one day, she meets a sloth. Mr. Sloth shows Sasha that it's okay to stop and smell the flowers from time to time. Mr. Sloth reminds her that it's okay to take your time and enjoy yourself. This is a beautiful book, both in illustrations and message. It will remind both parents and children to slow down.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
Katy has again written a delightful picture book with colorful illustrations and a storyline that tugs at everyone’ s heart right now.
I requested this title because I love sloths but this is a wonderful story to remind my two full speed kiddos to slow down sometimes. Absolutely ADORABLE!
Thanks to Netgalley for the e-ARC.
The illustrations in this picture book are gorgeous and eye-catching. This book would be perfect to read with students who rush through their work or needs reminders to slow down and remain present. I did a second read-through where I read the book out loud like I would for my class and I enjoyed the contrast of Sasha’s speed and Mr. Sloth’s slow dialogue. The contrast between Mr. Sloth's dialogue and Sasha's actions really helps reinforce the message of the book. I think this book would be a great addition to a classroom library.
A fun an easy reading story. Wonderful to read with your child after a long day and some time to relax before bed.
Absolutely beautiful reminder to slow down and remain present. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story sweet! I cannot wait to share this with students in my class:).
If you have someone in your household that races around you may want to share the delightful book The Mindful Mr. Sloth by Katy Hudson. A short story with beautiful artwork.
Young Sasha is a busy girl who does everything fast. When visiting her tree house an unexpected guest arrives -- a sloth called Mr. Sloth. Without waiting to hear how he came to arrive she runs off with her new best friend. He joins her on several new activities but Mr. Sloth is so slow he never finishes. She brings him along on the bike race but Mr. Sloth asks her to stop several times - to hear the birds chirping, to smell the flowers, and to enjoy the quiet of nature. Sasha still does things fast but she also does some things slow happily with her best friend Mr. Sloth.
Wonderful book. Beautifully illustrated, brilliant theme. It's often hard to get children to sit still. Sasha and Mr. Sloth nicely illustrates that there is a time and place for both. Would love to see more of these two characters.
OMG the illustrations on this book are so sweet and the storyline is so cute that I just loved the book. The story follows little Sasha as she loves to do everything fast and sometimes not finishing what she started until she meets Mr. Sloth. He shows Sasha that she needs to slow down to enjoy the finest things in life. Things that she is missing. Such a wonderful book and I highly recommend it to kids of all ages. I very much enjoyed it. Thanks #Netgalley for the early review copy.
Sloths are adorable so this book scored points just for having a sloth in it. The message of slowing down to take everything in really resonates and I think kids will enjoy this, I know parents will as well. It serves as a nice reminder for all of us.
Mindful Mr. Sloth is an adorable book showing the friendship between a young girl, Sasha, and her new friend, Mr. Sloth. Sasha is go-go-go fast, and Mr. Sloth lives up to his name. As Sasha totes Mr. Sloth around on all her fun and adventures, Mr. Sloth is the one to teach Sasha about slowing down.
This is an adorable, wonderfully illustrated book that will be sure to enthrall young listeners. Mindful Mr. Sloth will be a fun addition to storyteller's shelves everywhere!
What a darling story to teach kids about mindfulness and enjoying the present moment. I know my own kids are very energetic and like to move from one activity to another without a second thought. Mindful Mr. Sloth will be a welcome addition to our shelf when it releases to try to help them understand living more slowly and intentionally is a good thing to embrace.
This is a great children's story to remind children and adults alike to slow down and enjoy the little things in life.
Mindfulness is difficult for many kids. This book could help them realize they don’t always have to go speedy fast. I liked how the characters had their own quirks and then found common ground.
Ahhhh I loved this book!
First off, this book involves a sloth (arguably one of the best animals!).
Secondly, it broaches a subject of mindfulness, which (particularly at the moment) I feel is an important skill to teach children.
Thirdly the illustrations were adorable. And there is so much detail to pick out in them.
I can’t wait to share this with my class.
ARC kindly received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Katy Hudson’s consistent attention to detail in her illustrations, on every page is wonderful. It will really get children and their parents pouring over them together; seeing something new each time they read the story together. The expressions on Mr Sloth’s face are priceless.
Reading the contrast of Sasha’s speed and Mr Sloth’s slow dialogue out loud makes this story interactive and humorous for adults and children.
I like the way the story itself speeds up and slows down, i.e. the stillness of the spread where they find a butterfly, is captivating. And with no words, less is more.
There is a clear message and nothing too complex to this story and young children will understand and learn that connecting with nature in this way, is an enjoyable experience.
