I'm never afraid to read a Christine Nolfi book. Even without reading the synopsis I know it's going to be a page turner. This one is her best yet. It's excellent. It's beautiful. It's so sad. It's a heart wrenching story that also leads to other feelings. It's like you are there with the characters.

I loved this book. I cared for the characters with the exception of Quinn's parents. I did not like either of them. They were not worthy of having such a wonderful son. They were not worthy of anything good. Both losers. Both caring only about themselves.

Rae is a strong woman. She's been through a lot. She's loved and lost. She lost the most important thing in her life. So many losses for one young woman yet she keeps on going. She is a forgiving person but you have to give her a bit of time. She's a nurturing person and cares about her loved ones deeply. She could have been a very bitter woman but she wasn't. She had her moments of distress but overall she was just a great person. With faults of course but still....

This story will touch your heart. It will leave you weeping in so many places. It will make you smile in many also. I loved the descriptions in this book. You could feel the freezing cold. You could feel the pain some felt because of the snow storm. You could feel the losses. This touched a bit on depression and what it does to a person. It's real. It was portrayed realistically. In a way you knew what was happening. Even if the young Rae didn't understand it at the time.

I loved Rae's dad, Connor. He had faults but in the end he stepped up. He was there when it counted. He helped his young daughter become the young woman she was destine to be. I loved this book. It touched my heart. It made me think about a few things. One being who was the dad. Who was Lark's dad? I did figure out fairly early on how but not who. It took nothing away from this story. This one you won't soon forget. It will stick with you.

I loved the love story part too. It was not all mush and gross. lol It was tender and real. I did understand the separation that had to be. And that it took so long. Just proves that love can be a lifeline that reaches across the years and pull two people together. Two people who have a destiny. It was one of those meant to be things.

This book took my breath away. It made me weep. It made me laugh a few times. The last two chapters really did me in. But it's all worth it. I could also picture the lights. The beautiful light show. Made me believe that some people may can see from the beyond.

Thank you #NetGalley, #ChristineNolfi, #LakeUnionPublishing for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this wonderful book.

5/5 huge stars and a very high recommendation. Do have plenty of tissues. Enjoy!

Christine Nolfi has written a gut-wrenching story of grief and the different ways it affects people. Poignant with the sense of loss, Nolfi skillfully parcels out details of multiple tragic events and their lasting impact. This is a story about family, both the ones we are born into, the ones we make and the ones we choose to leave. I was drawn into this story from the very beginning, the characters and their struggles evoking strong feelings as I read of their journey to overcome the storms of grief and find hope.

I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher and Netgalley. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Rae has not been the same since her teenage daughters death. Quinn was her daughters friend and is equally saddened by his best friends death. When Quinn is kicked out of his house by his abusive parents on his 18th birthday, Rae takes him in. Can the two begin to heal through each other?
Very touching, emotional, hard to put down story with a great plot. Christine Nolif knows how to weave a story! Heart warming likeable characters.

This is a story that will stay with me a long, long time! I couldn't stop thinking about all of the characters after I closed the pages of this book. The Passing Storm is an intricately woven story about the complicated past meeting the tumultuous present, settling into a new future.

All of the characters, and I mean all of them, really had some serious issues to work through. Watching them struggle through them endeared me to them and I felt everything they did. I loved everything about this story, even the hard parts.

I've read quite a few of Christine's books and this has now become one of my favorites, for it's great characters and the depth of feelings that she invoked in me. I highly recommend The Passing Storm and I know that you will fall in love with it too.

I needed to think about this book for a few days before writing a review. As with all of this author's books, it is filled with love, tears, and tenderness. I have to admit I shed a few tears in places.

The story takes place in Ohio on a farm. Rae has experienced some tragic circumstances in her past, not the least of which is the death of her daughter. She and her father barely cope with life. Enter Quinn, a high school senior kicked out of his house by his parents. Rae and her father take him in with some trepidation. However, Quinn manages to lighten their heartbreak in ways they did not expect.

This is a book that will grab your heart and not let go. I cried and rejoiced and found myself not being able to stop reading! Christine Nolfi is an amazing author and I love reading her books!

This is one of those books where you feel yourself becoming a part of the story because you become so invested in the outcomes of the characters. The first chapter of the book gives you those "uh oh" moments where you know something bad happened but you don't find out right away. Why is Rae being so mean to Quinn, and why does he sneak around her farm? Rae and her father, Connor, have lived together through two devastating losses in their lives and don't seem to be ready to put the pieces back together...that is until Rae finally sees Quinn for who he is....a young man lost in sorrow living with abusive parents. Quinn is an important part of this story and is the link between many characters. The journey Rae and her father take to come to grips with their sorrow and to move on has its ups and downs, filled with love, humor and dangerous encounters. Definitely a book that keeps you turning the pages to see where it takes you. Thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this advance reader copy. #NetGalley #ThePassingStorm

Of the 6 books that I’ve read by author Christine Nolfi, I believe The Passing Storm is her best work yet! It’s a story of family and friendship that deals with many different emotions. There are tragedies that take place that cause much sadness and grief. As a result of one, Rae Langdon, the main character, makes a foolish choice which later causes her to keep secrets that in turn effect her future. The story held my attention as it deals with both the death of a parent and of a child. Other issues such as rape, child abuse and alcoholism are also part of the storyline. The characters are all fully developed and I felt a real connection to many of them. This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to others. Although it covered a lot of sad and tragic events, the ending leaves you feeling very optimistic and hopeful for the future. I’d like to thank Christine Nolfi, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the arc to read, review and enjoy. It was a wonderful story that I’m giving 5 stars!

RIVETING!

Author Christine Nolfi always writes novels that have vivid characters, excellent plot development and always leaves you wanting more. Her new release, The Passing Storm: A Novel, is in my opinion, the best of her of her writing to date! This story will stay with you and make you think about difficult situations you may face in your own life and help you as you navigate through them.

Rae Langdon has seen her share of grief. She lost her beloved Mother, a brilliant artist whose gifts for making beauty out of old, broken things endured her to everyone. She was killed in an accident on their property in a winter storm. She also lost her precious daughter in a freak accident while she was at a sleepover with some friends. These incidents have left her an empty shell of her former self. Yet, she must continue on & take care of her father, Connor, and their 40 acre farm. She also manages to give shelter to a teenage boy named Quinn Galecki. His parents have thrown him out so the Langdons take him in. Oddly enough, Rae, Connor and Quinn share a past and understand one another’s pain. Nolfi concludes her novel by revealing that forgiveness heals deep hidden secrets and opens the way for healing and restoration.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by Lake Union Publishing & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

Once again, Christine Nolfi does not disappoint - I did not want to put this book down! This was a beautifully written story with characters that I was immediately drawn to. I was especially drawn to Rae – for someone who is still relatively young she has experienced so much loss and heartache, yet she continues putting one foot in front of the other and even manages to open her home to Quinn (even though they have a bit of a contentious history which you will learn all about throughout the story). This book drew me in from the start with references to secrets and events from the past. I loved how the author slowly provided more details and answers as the story unfolded, which kept me interested and engaged. There was also a touch of whimsy that was just perfect – I won’t go into too much detail, but there was a part of the book where Quinn and Connor were decorating the farm and it sounded both magical and absolutely breathtaking. This was easily one of my favorite books that I've read so far this year.

This is a well-written story about Rae, a single mother, who is learning to live with the death of her teenage daughter in a tragic accident. Her and her father take in a friend of her daughter and rescue him from his abusive parents. Lots of emotions as Rae fights her way through her grief to find healing and hope. The author held my attention as the various secrets were revealed. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Passing Storm by Christine Nolfi is, I believe, her best work to date. Her deeply drawn characters come alive as the sad but ultimately uplifting story unfolds. It’s interesting to note how nature plays such a part in these lives, both in the beginning and at the end. I highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.

Christine Nolfi has a unique ability to develop a story that can somehow break your heart, while simultaneously give a sense of hope for the future. Several of the main characters were flawed, but also relatable and likeable. Their journey makes for a compelling and touching study of what defines a family. This was easily one of my favorite books of the year.

This book was a wonderful read and shows that there is always hope no matter what dark place you may be in.

This is the first book for me to read from Christine Nolfi and I could not put it down once I started reading.

With the bad memories and events that Rae and her father have been through in their lives, they took a chance to help Quinn who was going through his own hard times and who also had a suspicious unknown relationship with Rae’s daughter. This book had me guessing till the end as to who was responsible for Rae’s pain.

The Passing Storm: Christine Nolfi: Has written a thoughtful and painful journey of family, friends and strangers showing how tragic events touched them all and had an affect on the direction of their lives. Lark never appears but her presence is felt, her soul & essence is apart of everyone she touched. Tragic event from the past still haunts Rae; her decision & secrets kept to protect others only caused hurt, misconceptions & eventually caused her to withdraw from life. When Rae opens her heart & home to Quinn & everyone opened up & brought light to the secrets they held close to protect others, love, forgiveness, healing and most importantly life begins for all. You will want to add The Passing Storm to your TBR list.

A heartwarming story of love, loss, healing and new beginnings. This book is beautifully and skillfully written.
After the tragic loss of her mother and daughter, Rae Langdon must find a way to navigate through life and not let grief overwhelm her. The story starts out with mysterious things happening in the family barn. Rae becomes suspicious that a former friend of her daughter is behind the strange happenings. Despite Rae's heavy heart, she welcomes the teen into her home to seek shelter during a brutal winter storm.
The story takes you on many twists and turns and with an ending I did not see coming!
I enjoyed reading this book and will recommend to others.

THE PASSING STORM by Christine Nolfi is a beautifully-written and touching story of family, friendship and forgiveness that will stay on my mind for a long time. Rae Langdon and her father, Connor, tend their large farm in small-town Ohio. Both are dealing with grief and pain that never lets them go. Quinn Galecki, a teen who lives nearby, struggles with a troubled family life and painful losses of his own. Despite her misgivings, Rae offers to take Quinn in when he is thrown out by his parents. As they spend time together, Rae, Connor and Quinn form an unexpected bond that helps them all begin to heal. As long-buried secrets from the past are revealed, the characters must confront their innermost feelings in order to find hope for the future. I couldn’t help but root for these complex characters as they each faced their guilt, anger and heartbreak to find connection and reconciliation. I was completely drawn in to this emotional and heartfelt story and I highly recommend it. Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read an early copy.

When The Storms Of Life Slam Into You. This is a book that can be a bit oppressive at times in just how *heavy* it is. Our main character has suffered a lot of loss that she's never fully recovered from - some more recent than others - and now she has to confront it all. And yet, it is because of such heavy tragedy that the book is able to explore all that it does and indeed show just the level of hope and forgiveness it does. By the end, the reader is left feeling much lighter and more hopeful for the future, and yet also somber in the face of all that has been lost and yet also all that has been found. If you're looking for a lighter, quirkier book ala Nolfi's earlier Sweet Lakes trilogy... this isn't that. But if you've been through some White Hurricanes yourself, or maybe are currently in the middle of one, and just need some level of hope to cling to... this is the kind of book you'll want to read. And let's face it - we've *all* been through a White Hurricane, are in one, or are about to be in one. (And often all three at once.) For those times and any other, this book is very much recommended.
