I've been on a fantasy kick recently so this thriller was a perfect way to pull me out of some made up worlds. I really enjoyed this story. I feel like so many domestic thrillers have the main character and their spouse's relationship just fall apart and I'm glad the story really stayed away from that. There was a lot of getting to know the characters but the plot was pretty predictable. I feel like there were a number of different ways this could be taken that would have made it less predictable. Still a fun ride though! Thank you so much to Sarah Warburton, Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for a review! I'd give it a 3.5/5.

Do you really know the people in your life? Kacy seems to think so but perhaps got it wrong twice. After being burned by her best friend, Kacy and her husband pack up and move to another state and city to start a new life. Things seems to be going well at first but then Kacy starts to wonder about a few things- such as cameras in her house, mysterious deaths of people around her and then the ultimate of her husband stating they needed to go to the police station ASAP to report a murder. But who murdered who and why? Was her husband involved? The book was written from Kacy's point of view and then excerpts from a podcast intertwined. I really liked the podcast part and wish that was expanded a bit more. I enjoyed the book but felt there were some loose ends and parts that could have been more developed- such as when she found out who the murderer (s) was/were and well, the whole ending.

This book had me interested right from the start. I think everyone has had a loss of a good friend and that hit home for me. It still never made sense to me how it unraveled with getting caught though.

After her career spectacularly crashes and burns following false accusations of embezzlement by her supposed best friend, Kacy and her husband move to a new town and a new life. Kacy struggles to make friends but thinks she’s found a new BFF in her next neighbour Lena, and Lena’s husband Brady gets on wonderfully with her husband. However, not is all as it seems, and Kacy finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about her friends and herself.

I really liked the snippets of podcast that were interspersed every few chapters. They really helped frame the narrative for the following parts of the story and also made me want to keep reading to see what the podcasters were hinting at! I also felt for Kacy, who spends a lot of time second guessing herself and her poor friend choices. I loved how she came across as flawed and anxious, and she was trying so hard to be a good friend but it kept kicking her in the butt.

The ending wasn’t as clear cut as I like (I’m very much a “bad person gets comeuppance, everyone lives happily ever after” kind of person), but in saying that, it fit perfectly with the story. There were a few time jumps (Kacy finds out she’s pregnant, then we jump to the baby shower, then baby is three months old) which means time feels like it’s fairly compact but the events do occur over at least 12-18 months, so Kacy’s friendships and ability to move on from her previous life makes more sense within that.

All in all, a thriller that hooks you in and keeps you there! Definitely worth a read.

CW: mention of miscarriage and pregnancy, depression

Really enjoyed this book! Loved the suspense and it caught me unawares at times, where I thought I knew the plot but nope! there was a twist! Liked how the main character Kacy developed as the book progressed. Looking forward to reading more by Sarah Warburton

This is one of those twisty stories that will definitely have you dizzy by the end! Starts out with a bang and while it sort of slows down, didn’t ever fizzle! Lots of fun twisty turns, thrills, chills, and shocks! Amazing character development, with an unique spin on a wicked neighborhood! I highly, highly recommend this fun book, especially to my fellow thrill seekers!

The book started off well, but just never took off. We first meet Kacy Tremaine, trying to pick up the pieces of her life. Kacy had been an art historian and museum curator, who was framed for embezzlement, by her best friend no less. Following the demise of her career, Kacy and her husband, Michael, leave New Jersey and head to Sugar Land, Texas to escape the past and start over. Kacy and Michael find friendship with their new next door neighbors, but it seems Kacy has unfortunate luck finding friends. You see, their new next door neighbors are serial killers and Kacy and Michael are soon dragged into a nightmare.

The book is supposed to be a taut and complex psychological thriller, but it just really never got there, for a number of reasons. When we first meet Kacy, she is devastated about the loss of her career. I understand how despondent she must have been, but it was endless pages/chapters of her depression, cyberstalking her nemesis and therapy which wasn’t working. She then decides to have a baby, which seems to cure her overnight. Whatever. The serial killer characters are so overdone, they just aren’t believable. The book is interlaced with chapters of a true-crime podcast with teasers about the story to come, but it didn’t work as the two women in the podcast just make vacuous silly comments.

Take a pass on this one. It’s predictable and wasn’t very thrilling.

You can never tell by Sarah Warburton is a thriller set around Kacy who has moved to the suburbs with her husband Michael. Kacy reputation was destroyed in new Jersey as her best friend Aimee framed her for theft at their place of work. With such low confidence in her judgement she is wary to make new friends. However she is pleasantly surprised with some of the women she encounters developing good relationships with them and her new best friend Leena who happens not only yo be her neighbour bit also a serial killer.

I found this book was a slow starter espically as we are aware that Kacy's new best friend is a serial killer we are told this from the very first chapter. So I spent a while waiting to be introduced to this new friend. However once this book gets into the swing of things I was hooked.

Kacy isn't the best protagonist she isn't particularly likable but that didn't put me off. She is just a winey woman who clearly has no confidence what so ever in herself. Yet once I was committed to the book I saw why her character had to be that way. We have all been burnt by a friend and some of us unlucky ones have been screwed over by our best friends so I could totally sympathise with why Kacy was the way she was at the start of the book.

The prose is written in such a way that I found once all the characters had been introduced I couldn't put it down. It's also written so cleverly as the book is being told as a podcast so we get to heat the version of events that Kacy remembers as well as the events that had been documented for court proceedings. I loved the use of real serial killer's and the depth of knowledge the author clearly has on this subject.
The fact the book is mainly from Kacys point of view means we aren't actually privy to the murders themselves and the mystery surrounding them ie fascinating. .

I found myself 50% of the way through this book and absolutely freaked put. Not because it is particularly scary or gruesome because it's not, for me the fear is around how realistic this hook is. I think by using so many real cases along side for the podcast element of the book made me question everyone in my life who could possibly be a serial killer (I don't think there is anyone but who knows). The novel also made me think of the scene on the first episode of desperate housewives where they say but how well do we really know our neighbours

I love thrillers that are blood and gore and not pleasant to read but I also love thrillers that may not have those elements but are more understated because its more of a realistic situation that scares the life out of me. It didn't matter that we know who the serial killer is or even that we know Kacy must find out at some point. No the excitement I'd working out how she finds out and what the consequences of finding out.

Would I recommend this book?

Heck yeah I would. It's a page turne! I would advise if like me you have a brand new neighbour then maybe give if a few months before reading it because now I'm convinced the man next door is a serial killer ha
I want to score this a solid 5 but because of the slow start I will rate 4.5☆ ROUNDING UP TO 5

Thank you netgalley the author and publishers for the dugital ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

[Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read an advanced reading copy of "You Can Never Tell," scheduled for release on August 10th].

How well can someone truly know their neighbors? Living in the city, I don't think I've exchanged more than a passing 'hello' and 'how are you?' to my neighbors, which is exactly how I'd like to keep it. While we're here in in Saratoga Springs, though, everyone is suspiciously nice. 'Hi, how are you, how are the kids, the cats,' memorizing whole coffee orders. I'm torn between slowly backing away and wanting to put down roots. Then I read a novel where the couple's neighbors turn out to be serial killers and I'm fine staying in the city. I thought this was an entertaining, page-turning novel that despite having things revealed early on, kept me hooked until the end. I was a little iffy on the end because it felt slightly out of place/unresolved but overall, a great novel to bring with you to the beach this summer.

Special thank you to Sarah Warburton and NetGalley for an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

This thriller was amazing! Although I would definitely describe it as “predictable”, it kept me on my toes the whole time! I absolutely loved the format of interspersed podcast dialogue, and thought it was executed very well. I think one of the reasons I rate this book highly is because of its realistic nature. Reading this book on my Kindle at night in the darkness made me actually SCARED. It’s a worst fear come true: a situation where you think you’re safe but you’re not.

I also thought the characters had such amazing and unique personalities. They were relatable (Lena’s strength and independence, Kacy’s mental health struggles, Michael’s scientific nature), and it really added to the amazing dynamic of the story.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers!

I thought this to be a very fast-paced light thriller. It kept me on my toes but I felt it could've gone slightly darker and deeper. It just didn't have enough thrills for me, I was hooked and I did thoroughly enjoy it, I just felt there could've been a little more.

I kind of guessed who it was from the beginning but it didn't change how I felt about the book.

Thank you Sarah and Netgalley for this ARC!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Sarah Warburton.
It has a breezy, easy-to-read writing style that was just what I needed right now. The story felt fresh enough in an overpopulated genre, and the podcast segments hit the conversational tone just right.
Although I was not particularly interested in the museum/best friend/foe segment to the story, once it moved past that as the main drive for the story my interest was held more strongly, right through to the gripping conclusion.
Slow to start, but builds to an excellent story. Recommended.

Hold on for a wild ride. This had me on my toes till the very end. It was exciting and intriguing. It definitely kept you thinking which is a good thing. I'm so glad I read this.

You Can Never Tell by Sarah Warburton was a quick and fun domestic thriller. It's unique in some ways because some of it is framed by a podcast and while we can guess early on who the killer (or killers) are, it still had plenty of pieces that kept me guessing and wondering what would happen.

While the pacing could sometimes be a little off, overall it kept me turning the page fairly quickly. Revolving around disgraced art curator/employee Kacy, she and her husband Michael move to a new town in Texas. Kacy, betrayed by someone who she thought was her best friend, uses this opportunity to try and start anew, making new friends through the Bluebonnet Society, a women's group in the neighborhood. She soon finds out that not all of the women are who she expected them to be and the life she left behind crashes into her new life.

Pretty solid thriller!

This was a good read! In my opinion it did start off a little slow. But picked up shortly after.
I liked the way this story was being told. That is what kept me interested.

You Can Never Tell is a well executed story where the plot is well developed and any sub plots are woven well into the main story and how they impact the main characters. It broaches subjects including racism, religious bigotry and poverty but in a way that is not shocking or too upsetting for the reader. While the who dunnit part was obvious once the main crime was committed, the impact and fallout from it were shocking and kept me enthralled until the end. Highly recommend.

What a rollercoaster! This book was a rush start to finish. The characters were great. The story was super creepy and suspenseful. This was unique and even though you know who is killer is the story still is full of twists and turns. I loved this book so much I couldn’t put it down. The whole book was so realistic and creepy. I mean do we ever really know our neighbours.
This one needs to top your read list.
