This has to be one of my favorite graphic novels that I've read in recent years. The storytelling is fantastic and the artwork is just so great. I would highly recommend that everyone read this book. Go read it!

I loved this book. Originally a web comic, Dhaliwal has a cartoonish but realistic drawing style that draws you into the story. She juggles a large cast of characters but finds space to individuate them and draw us into, and make us care about, their stories. The conceit of approaching difference through cyclopean characters is interesting and while none of the story lines is particularly groundbreaking, the examination of careers, families, relationships, and how they are all affected by difference is very entertaining and engaging.

I had trouble downloading the copy so read a physical one from my store. I loved Woman World and was really impressed with Cyclopedia Exotica. Dhaliwal is a fantastic storyteller and I loved the way she combined humour and sci-fi and created this world that was an excellent commentary on prejudice.

A great short comic that was easily turned into a book. It wasn't always very interesting but overall, it was good.

A story of the micro/macroaggressions and everyday prejudice a minority group goes through every day. It doesn't beat the reader over the head to make the reader understand the message. I especially liked the nuance in the story and how the characters were all different but going through the same thing.. I also liked how it shows how time changes context. I liked the author’s character descriptions in the back because it really helped me understand them within the main story. The artwork and coloring were nice

I first fell in love with this comic when reading pieces of it on Instagram. Now that I've read it as a whole with new portions added I love it even more! It's a great parallel to real world issues that people face through their lives.

Thank you NetGalley and Drawn & Quarterly for a free ARC in exchange for an honest reveiw.

I've followed Aminder Dhaliwal's work for a while and was excited to hear about this Cyclopedia Exotica collection. Dhaliwal has a great sense of humor and observation which carries over into this work. The art was charming and expressive, and Dhaliwal showcases excellent economy of line. I'm looking forward to future comics!

Very endearing, and I really like the world that’s constructed through all the little strips and vignettes, but the format of this book as simply strips and vignettes with a guaranteed punchline and ending after every few panels made it tough to stick with. Probably a nice book to own, a cool thing to flip through, a nice coffee table piece, but not a great straight read.

I did, but also didn't understand the metaphor this book was trying to convey. The cyclopes are a minority and experience all the trials and tribulations of what that entails: identity crises, not much (positive) representation in media, people from different backgrounds telling our stories and being in charge of our (health)care. But, every time I thought this book was going to go *there*, it ended on a joke.

This was such a lovely graphic novel to read - deeply sweet and heart-warming while also thoughtful and provocative about issues including representation, in/hypervisibility, discrimination, etc. Reminded me a bit of Dykes to Watch Out For, except centered on a group of cyclops friends in a world where cyclopses are often second-tier citizens. I loved the diversity of characters, and the format worked really well, switching between characters without being confusing.

This was such an eye-opening and incredible read. I finished it so quickly that I lost track of time. I cannot wait to use this for my classroom.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I found the beginning of this book a little preachy, but became more engaged the further I went on. I really liked the different characters. Their struggles with micro and macroaggressions were very believable. I really love the fact that they are just going about living their normal lives. I think color would have made this book a bit better. In the beginning it was hard for me to tell the difference between characters, though that issue vanished as the story went on.

I was so excited to see Aminder Dhaliwal's name pop up here! I didn't keep up with the weekly serialization of this comic, and I sometimes don't love the overall structure of serially-produced works like this, but it was still really charming and brilliant. I felt super invested in these characters and their paths - my only real complaint would be that I don't actually see the need for Author Explanations at the end of the book, as I think they speak for themselves and I'd prefer to leave what's unsaid in the comics a little bit up to the reader's interpretation.
