The Perfect Escape by Leah Konen leads you into the mountains with 3 women on a get-away trip to run from reality of their divorces. What should have been a relaxing vacay in the adirondacks, goes awry at a gas station. They lose their keys and must rent a car and stay at a cabin off their path. When Sam, Margaret and Diana, travel to a bar for a night of margaritas, and become inebriated, they lose all track of their senses. Sam's ex shows up for an eventful frolic outside the bar, while Margaret hooks up with a total stranger that brings them both back to the cabin. The next morning with headaches in tow the two of them realize Diana never came home.

Backtracking to the bar, they find blood stains and suspect it is their friend.

It gets a little crazy after this and there become so many people involved. Lies are told and people are not who they say they are. The skeletons are removed from the closets with some unexpected surprises. It is an easy read with a lot of action leading you to a final twist.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Although this book piqued my instrest with a "going up north" trip between three women, ultimately the premise let me down. Less female empowerment, more jealousy and emotional baggage. I also felt really annoyed that there were only white people in the book. It seems like the New York marketing and acting scenes (as described in the book) do not include BIPOC folks.

From the first page, The Perfect Escape sets an ominous tone. It is obvious that something is going to go wrong on the girls' trip that Sam, Diana, and Margaret are taking - it just isn't clear what, exactly. When Diana goes missing after a night out at a bar (and a few other things happen at the same bar), Sam and Margaret realize how little they know about her. There are lots of twists throughout this story; though I had some idea of what was happening in the background, I wasn't able to guess it all properly and put it all together myself. This was thrilling from start to finish!

This is my first book by this author. Overall it was a fast read with some twists and turns to it. There were few twists that I didn't anticipate, the end is something I didn't see it coming. It's okay for a one time read and was more of a suspense thriller than a mystery to me.

Three friends go on a girls’ trip to escape their exes. Or do they...

Let’s get the negative out of the way first, like a band-aid ripping off. The characters—awful. A trio or 30-somethings who are woefully immature and pining over complete loser guys. If I had to hear “so and so my love, my absolute heart” type of phrasing, I swear...

And Margaret’s incessant “omg he’s so young!” to describe Alex. He was, what, 28 or 29 to her mid-30s? He wasn’t some 20 year old frat bro, and it’s not like she and her friends were burning up the roads with responsible decision making and mature behavior.

But I digress. Because under all that, this was such a clever, twisty plot that you can really get lost in. A quick read, there’s also a final turn at the end that will make you keep thinking about the book beyond the final page. So as long as you can travel with some unlikeable ladies (the guys aren’t much better, to be fair), this was entertaining.

Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for granting me this ARC in exchange for a review.

A great thriller with unexpected twists! 3 new friends from New York City who bonded over the end of their individual relationships head upstate for a girls weekend. But when they are stranded in an unexpected location, each woman is revealed to have been holding something back from her friends, and the murder of someone connected to the trio brings everyone's lives into question. The novel is captivating and all 3 narrators add to both the suspense and the eventual solution.

A girl's trip gone awry. Sounds fun. Well, this was anything but fun - it was mysterious, it was dark, it was twisted. What I found interesting was that I didn't like any of the characters - but I was totally drawn in.

This story was told from alternating points of view. I love this type of viewpoint, especially in books like this, where the stories contradict each other.

Three women go on a road trip. Each has an ex (or soon to be ex). The women "break down" and have to change their plans. each ex shows up in some fashion - or do they? Then there is a new romantic interest. With all these characters running around, it can take a minute to track who is doing what (and with whom) but that's part of the fun,. You know someone isn't telling the truth, and you think you know who, but then you keep changing your mind.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns. I want to thank the author, the publisher and #netgalleyfor the ARC which did not impact my review. #ThePerfectEscape

This was a quick read and for the most part easy to follow. There were a few things I didn't predict though and the end had a little twist, which was nice. This would be a fun read for a book club or a beach read (if you want some suspense/drama).

Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A perfect book about a trip that went awry. This book is a thriller through and through. Fast pace and at times scary I couldn’t wait to find out what happened and then was shocked when I did. I highly recommend this one.

WOW.
There were parts of this book that just made me angry, but for the most part I couldn't stop reading this one! And then the extra little twist at the very, very end...perfection.
I can't say that I loved any of the characters, but the story kept me reading and turning those pages!! Everyone just seemed overly self-involved and not able to see the bigger pictures around them...but, that does play into the story!
This one will be easy to recommend to readers who like like the twisty whodunit type books.

This was a great thriller from an author I have never read before. It wasn’t predictable for me and I found myself staying up really late to try and find out what was going to happen. The atmosphere and characters were well written and the switching perspectives weren’t confusing. Highly recommend. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was expecting a pretty bland story, I got so much more than that. Loved the story and how it progressed and was able to hook the reader. I stayed up late to finish this book. There are a number of surprises in this story. I will be recommending this to others who are looking for something new to read. Great book!!!

Okay, so you know how you're reading along and you know things are getting good because there is a little movie playing in your mind? There are two points where this movie is extremely disorienting, so much so that, for me, it was impossible to remain engrossed in or really even engaged with the story. Plus one of the main characters is implausibly unobservant.
